I see a lot of holier than thou takes on Williams , a lot of grown ass adults judging this kid but the reality is the kids father is in prison , his mother isn’t in his life and he doesn’t have much guidance , Coleman Scott and his wife were his support system last year and checked on him daily to try and keep him in line then after one year at school his support system is gone , I would bet 95 percent of you have no idea what’s it’s like to be 18 and have no parents to help you and no support system ( nevermind while wrestling D1 at one of the most prestigious programs in the sport) ,save your judgements and just hope this young man finds a place where he can get it right because the talent is there and he’s a great kid overall9 points

I don't see a bunch of people on this thread "hating" on Jordan Williams. I personally hope that he gets things figured out and has success elsewhere (i.e. Chance Marsteller). It is unfortunate that his family situation is difficult. I can wish him well on his future endeavors and hope that he changes his lifestyle while still understanding why OK State needed to cut ties with him and move on to ensure they set up a culture in line with the coaching staffs values and principles. This was not Williams first mistake so it is understandable what Taylor and Co. did in my opinion.3 points

Yes it is when you do so only for political gain. No, not when facts prove your position wrong and you change to agree with facts. Now I was trying to make a funny about the double standard that is applied. R's are not allowed to change their minds. D's are expected to. Kamala, the architect of the Biden economy is now trying to distance herself from him. That much is apparent because she is going to "fix" the economy. But she really cannot hide who she is when she offers money for votes, $25k for first time home purchasers. That there is sound economic policy. mspart2 points

I am hearing very contradictory information on job growth numbers. Possible conclusions/consequences: more than 100% are going to immigrants (legal and illegal) a huge portion of the job growth (25%) is in government jobs Conclusions(?)/ Conxequences Are government entities are hiring huge numbers of illegal aliens? I really have trouble wrapping my head around this. Probably not the case. BUT . . . do government entities sub-contract to firms that have a large illegal alien labor force? Does Davis Bacon prevent this in at least Federal contract situations? Maybe the answer is that US Citizens are moving into the government jobs and leaving a giant sucking sound of vacated jobs in the private sector pulling illegals into our country. But what about all of the US Citizens - especially male - of working age not working? That list seems to be ever expanding. If >100% of the jobs go to outsiders at below market prices then we must be expanding the roles of people on the dole simultaneously. It is not sustainable (nor green, climate-y, or consciounable) that for every 3 new private sector job recipients they have to pay for a new public employee and another increase in the number of free loaders.2 points

So, how exactly does Stutzman to Davidson and back to Bloomsburg in the same week happen in a world where adults are running athletic departments?2 points

I don't think wrestlers stand a chance with this rules set. Solid takedowns are not that impressive in the BJJ world. No sure how a high level wrestler looks impressive enough in the eyes of a BJJ judge to win a round. I don't how you judge a round where a wrestler score a basic TD and then is trapped in the guard and is able to avoid a submission for the rest of the round. Also, I think there is close to zero chance a high level grappler gets submitted by a wrestler while the wrestle is always at risks being put n an unfamiliar position and submitted.2 points

He’s part of the three person “Jury of Appeal” aka review committee at the World and Olympic championships. Of those at that level, his English is the best.2 points

No he won't. Cael did the exact same thing when he started at PSU.2 points

Rei Higuchi - I'd favor nobody, but if anyone can do it then it would have to be Micic or Lee Kotaro Kiyooka - this is a tough one, but I would pick Shamil Mamedov to beat him. He isn't as one dimensional and predictable as Amouzad Razambek Zhamalov - I would favor Sidakov. Zhamalov looked awesome, but Takatani, Valiev, Rassadin and Salkazanov were in no way gold medal threats. Kadimagomedov was unfortunately not in shape either Magomed Ramazanov - David Taylor and Yazdani when healthy Akhmed Tazhudinov - probably no one. A healthy Sadulaev would make for an interesting challenge Geno Petriashvili - considering how Zare beat him 9-2 and 10-0 the last two times they had previously wrestled. I'd pick Zare2 points

I would second that... the Dake bronze medal match, the second half, after he went John McEnroe on the "challenge Lost" dude would be my 1a bout. My 1b would be Blades 5 point suplay match. D32 points

Unfortunately I saw that SnyderMan was having a tough time well before last year’s Worlds. So, I think he’s going to have to change things up if he wants to get back on the podium.1 point

He’s the review guy for all the tournaments I’ve been to. It seems like that’s his job with UWW. Attend events and review/announce the challenges. I don’t think he is the only one that decides the outcome. I’ve always seen a couple other people that watch the video with him, but I don’t know what that actual process is. I don’t always agree with the calls, but he does a good job of showing and explaining what is called.1 point

Is it too late though? Imagine the reaction of the Democrats if Trump were to step down and have Desantis take over. It seems like some of the stuff he has been saying may be to set the stage for that tradeoff. The Democrats have spent billions with negative adds against Trump, which would be a complete waste if it were Desantis.1 point

That's rich, especially considering that we were second place that year. The Soviet Union had 5 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze.1 point

Is it just me, or did the guy say "Challenge Lost" in a way that made it seem like he was really happy about it, and trying to rub it in?1 point
-
I disagree as it keeps things moving and doesnt provide refuge. I think free has it down pretty good right now. The matches are pretty exciting even between upper world class guys where it could get bogged down without things like pushouts and passivity. It rewards action.1 point
-
Pushout is a terrible rule both for international and domestic folkstyle. This isn't sumo.1 point
-
I agree that folkstyle is here to stay but were it up to me, I would make two freestyle changes that I believe would make the matches more interesting by encouraging more action. The first would be pushout points as far too many matches take place at the edges rather than in the center where they belong. The second would be passivity from neutral in the first period. It is 3 minutes long and far too many matches end 0-0 after the first given the amount of time they have to work. I know these have come up before but it would also be one movement in the direction of freestyle without doing away with the mat wrestling that gives folk its own identity.1 point
-
The NCAAs will never go freestyle so remove that from the conversation. UWW will have totally different rule set before the 2032 Games. Changes happen too fast in international wrestling for the NCAA to keep up.1 point

Its's all the far left has. They cannot argue the merits, they have to destroy the messenger with accusations they just throw out and hope they stick. Just pathetic. mspart1 point

Not a fan of video review in any sport, but I thought the official giving a detail explanation was a big improvement. The reviews went fairly quickly and the announcement and his emphasis gave it a little bit more drama.1 point

Nolf and Kerk will likely lose in the first round. Wrestling is very different from grappling. Both guys probably get leglocked in under 2 minutes imo.1 point

Some day I plan on being the last man standing....oh, and by the way, I can prove I've been to each of those NCAA's!!!1 point

Good luck with this, no one wants their full time job to be patrolling the depths to check every message for adhering to these guidelines. No way I'm reading every topic, hence why some get out of hand until it gets reported or I stumble across it. You also did not address people who are just making this place unbearable to come to. They don't always post negatively, but nag, annoy, and provoke others to be annoying. Is there a rule for that or do we just allow it until no one comes here? IP Address banning is worthless when people use multiple addresses a day and by banning them you can also ban users that are not delinquents. In your world, everything is black and white, yet patrolling a board like this or even the huge social media platforms is not black and white. As stated previously you can't fit everything into a square hole.1 point

Cleve Wootson Jr of WAPO asked KJP if the White House was going to censor the Musk and Trump interview on X? The exact question: https://www.foxnews.com/media/wapo-reporter-suggests-white-house-censor-misinformation-trump-musk-interview-press-briefing During Monday's press briefing, the Washington Post's Cleve Wootson Jr. invoked Musk's highly anticipated viral conversation with Trump that night, insisting misinformation is not a "campaign issue" but "an America issue" as well. "What role does the White House or the president have in sort of stopping that or stopping the spread of that or sort of intervening in that? Some of that was about campaign misinformation, but, you know, it’s a wider thing, right?" Wootson Jr. asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. This is a flagrant call for censorship of the Musk/Trump interview. Not based on anything real as this was before the interview took place. This was a call for pre-emptive censorship. Notice KJPs response: "It is incredibly important to call that out, as you’re doing. She is totally on board but unfortunately had to explain that X is a private company and they can't do much but it is important to call it out. We do not need anymore evidence of censorship being accepted by media and government. This is not the last time this will happen but we need nor more evidence this is an issue only the powerful hold. Does this make the media the enemy of the people by withholding important information? I believe this is evidence they are definitely on that track. It is eggregious that at one time it was "I may not agree with you but will defend your right to say it" to "I may not agree with you and I'll do what I can to make sure what you say will not be made available to the people for their consideration." It is an abdication of the role of media in our country. They are supposed to be the 4th estate, keeping the government honest. They are not supposed to be in cahoots with the government's effort to restrict information they do not like. Jonathan Turley wrote an entire article on this and cites his own book on freedom of speech. https://jonathanturley.org/2024/08/14/an-america-issue-washington-post-reporter-calls-on-white-house-to-censor-trump-for-america/#comments mspart1 point

why do i have to arbitratily find the truth... if i listen to the words.. that would be what the person said.1 point

None of us are truly objective. It's unattainable. The best we can do is acknowledge it and accept that our aligned ideology is neither absolute truth. I myself have grown from the young libertarian who acknowledges the need for stop signs.1 point

Says the guy who claims that lifting doesn’t make one stronger.1 point
-
Could the strength issues be related to the reduced number of weight classes resulting in some serious weight cuts with the accompanying loss of strength? I don't see anyone past the novice wrestler getting "stronger" simply by wrestling. They do get more efficient at using the strength they possess but you don't get stronger without an overload stimulus (more weight on the bar) followed by recovery and adaptation.1 point
-
Absolutely scientifically untrue. You dieted your strength and muscle mass off that’s all. If you run west side and then catabolize and dehydrate all your gains away you wasted your time. Louie Simmons would tell you the exact same thing. The optimal would be a combination of strength training and sport training. Heavy lifting and wrestling combined.1 point
