People on twitter seem to be hyper fixating on the lockett loss but Doucet beat a guy that has been an olympian and was semi competitive with snyder and Ghasempour. Ramirez beat the only guy to go 6 with Lee at the olympics last year. Facundo bumped up like 15lbs to beat a u23 Asian champ and I think it was a good win for Casey as well. There are some really special things happening in Stillwater.8 points

Result and links to highlights. A lot of the guys were wrestling up in weight. Probably a factor in Dee's loss and it appears par terre was a big difference maker 125kg - Doucet DEC Habila Awusayiman 3-0 | Highlights Awusayiman previously wrestled at 97kg. 2024 Olympian (Lost 9-5 to Kyle Snyder). 2x Asian Championships medalist (Silver, Bronze). 61kg - Ramirez DEC Zou Wanhao 4-3 | Highlights Zou was a 2024 Olympian (1-1, lost 3-2 to Spencer Lee). Can't let @Wrestleknownothing have all the fun. Let’s kick things off with a head-scratcher from the NCAA archives… Nash Tillman wrestled in three NCAA tournaments, competed in five matches, but faced only three different opponents. But here’s the real trivia bomb: He lost to the same opponent in consecutive matches, not just once, but TWICE, in back-to-back years—each time against a different guy! The Breakdown: Year Weight Round Opponent School Result Score 1964 147 champ 32 Dino Boni Pittsburgh (Pa) Win 5-3 (dec) 1964 147 champ 16 Veryl Long Iowa State Loss 0-4 (dec) 1965 147 champ 32 Veryl Long Iowa State Loss 1-2 (dec) 1965 147 consi 8 #2 Loren Miller San Jose State (Ca) Loss Fall 4:44 1966 145 champ 32 Loren Miller San Jose State (Ca) Loss 1-2 (dec) In ‘64 and ‘65, Nash’s tournament run ended with back-to-back losses to Veryl Long. In ‘65 and ‘66, he finished with consecutive losses to Loren Miller! Has anyone else ever had a string of losses to the same opponent in consecutive NCAA tournaments? Or is Nash Tillman in a league of his own? I would have thought having consecutive losses to the same opponent would be very rare, however, since 1929 it seems to have happened around 90 times (still doing some validating on some). Any guesses for recent wrestlers who fall into this bucket?4 points

There were three examples last year. Tyler Wells (Minnesota) losing to Evan Frost (Iow State) in the blood round in 2024 at 133 followed by an opening round loss in 2025. These matches are also notable because Frost won them both without scoring a takedown (2-1 and 2-0) Maximus Hale (Penn) losing to Dylan Fishback (NC State) in the first round of the 2024 consolation bracket at 184 (1-4 SV) followed by an opening round loss in 2025 (3-10). Jordan Greer (Ohio) losing to Seth Nevills (Maryland) in the consolation pigtail at heavy in 2024 followed by an opening round loss in 2025 (0-5).3 points

I was just going to say the same thing. Although if he is just wrestling at his walk around summer weight, being ~15 pounds over 149 in late July seems pretty reasonable. Not to mention, there isn't a bout at 70kg. Similar to Facundo wrestling at 86kg who definitely won't be going 184. For the Pokes line-up, however, Swiderksi and Teague battling for the spot at 157 is probably best case scenario. 125: Spratley 133: Figs 141: Hughes/Vega 149: Jamison 157: Swiderski/Teague 165: Lockett 174: Facundo 184: Ryder 197: Merrill 285: Doucet That line-up is salty. It's crazy to think this is only the beginning for OKST's revival. They are going to be absolutely ridiculous come 2027-2028.3 points

Mills still to go. Kikinou and Burnett in the semis Taylor lost in the r16 Stewart lost in the quarters to a very impressive russian 10-4. Got stepped over looking for a lace seemed to be the big difference maker. I expect him to get pulled back in. Iran has the ability to still put 4 in the semis their 80kg guy looks very good, Kikinou wrestles an Iranian in the semis.2 points

I quit my job back at the beginning of 2023 to travel around for most of the year. Have yet to find a new one since due to the fun of the government. However, previously to that I was an instructor, and spent a lot of time in the classroom with nothing to do for 8+ hours a day. That's when I started doing all of the data gathering. No kids. Just really enjoy getting/researching data/history.2 points

I have some favorites in this category. First the "Fool Me Twice Gorriaran" goes to..... NC State's Tab Thacker who flattened Washington State's Wendell Ellis twice in a row (for Ellis) in a total of 4:32 Other finalists include Maryland's Hudson Taylor who pancaked West Virginia's Jared Villers on consecutive occasions, Iowa State's Gordon Hassman who felled by pin Lehigh's Harley Ferguson III twice on the run, and Iowa's Bruce Kinseth with pinfelled by pinfall Millersville's Frank Presley. And the "Wait, I Gained Weight To Avoid You Award" goes to... We have a tie. Ohio's Joey Calhoun went from 142 in 1994 to 150 in 1995 to avoid Illinois' Steve Marianetti, but a corn fed Marianetti found him anyway. NC State's Tommy Davis took full advantage of the weight changes in 1999. After taking it on the chin from Doug Schwab in 1998 at 126, he decided to go full feed in 1999 and jump to 141 only to find freakin' Doug Schwab waiting there. Well, at least he was able to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas that season.2 points

kikinou gets it done questionable white paddle on the grounded call on the edge score wise it would've been last 2 for Kikniou still but could've changed match tactics a bit great match by both guys.2 points

Feng is good u23 silver at 79kg 2024 olympian at 74 lost to rassadin 7-4 did not have a great asian championship probably not ideal for Dee but I'm guessing he was quite a bit smaller.2 points

Ronnie ramirez beats lee's arch enemy Zou 4-3 thats a crazy freaking win for the kid. Zhou was bronze at Asians this year and notably lost to lee 3-2 at the olympics and 9-7? at the OG qualifier. Feng beat lockett 14-3.2 points

Likewise, I was surprised at the lack of promotion and discussion on this. Maybe it was something that just came together at the last minute.2 points

When you go to your frat's Halloween dance party your senior year, already in a "sublime and elevated" mental state, and hit it off and eventually hook up with the hot brunette in the bouquet of baguette costume, only to learn the next morning that she is a freshman and turned 18 months ago, that is one thing. But when you serially target and message freshman girls en masse, like what Carter is alleged to have been doing? yeah that's a little odd.2 points

Our greco team wasn't really good this year but the guy who won gold at 92kg Amirsam Mohammadi looks really really good. I think we might have found our future 97kg after Saravi.1 point

That's not why I said that. It's because Trump, like most other things, doesn't really care about children or fitness. He just wants to be perceived as being some kind of tough guy, when the truth is if he were in position to need to pass it, he'd cry and complain that he had to.1 point

Everyone knows about the lazy wrestlers who just want to get off the mat and get some rest - The Pinfellers. But what about the guys who like to play with their food, get in the extra work, score more points - The Rinse and Repeaters. There was a time when there was no tech fall. If you wanted to take a guy down, cut him ,and do it all over again (and again and again), you could. It wasn't your job to stop you from running up the score. It was the other guy's job. So it is a pleasant surprise that the top match point scorer of all-time comes from the TF era (1985 - present). I give you the guys who racked up the points on the way to victory. Of course, this isn't all about takedowns. Back points were available. But it is a lot about takedowns. These totals do not include any points scored on the way to pinfalls, as those are not recorded in the brackets. Now let's look at just the TF era. For this we will go a bit deeper to include anyone who scored at least 75 match points in a single tournament You may be wondering how that compares to recent times. Well, wonder no more. The leaders for the 2025 tournament: Anyone else surprised to see Mesenbrink outscored at his own weight?1 point

I suspect that what takes @Wrestleknownothing a couple of minutes may take most of us hours. That's probably due to either talent, experience, or both. I own a machine shop in PA and like nothing better than seeing some of my best employees watching YouTube videos while the 5 axis mills they've programmed are making all of us lots of money. Wrestleknownothing is the Joe Dimaggio of this forum perhaps. Makes the difficult look easy.1 point

Joey Calhoun's 1995 season was a sacrifice at the alter of the anti-Iowa gods. Without his loss, the world would have never enjoyed one of the greatest NCAA upsets of all time.1 point

I think it's fair to fixate on Lockett's match. He's so damn tough that to see a score like that is notable. That being said, I'm not questioning the talent. One or two mistakes in freestyle can end up in a tech pretty easily. It's hard to have too much to say without seeing the entire match. But I've been riding on the Doucet train since all of the talk started after the season about OKST needing a transfer. He was solid, but obviously not great, his first two years in the line-up. I thought a year of training, the new staff, and the clearing out of so many seniors at heavyweight makes him a top 5 threat this year at NCAAs. This match only furthered that thought.1 point

Half joking. The boarder isn’t more secure. The admin is letting the boarder patrol and ice and others do their jobs … which exponentially reduces illegals pouring over it1 point

Having watched all these guys pretty much every time they wrestled, I'm guessing that it will be Greg D at 125 and Tyler Ferrara at 133 this year. Greg will graduate and Knox will enter the room in 2025/26 and take 125. Ferrera has three years left. (and it is "Milani")1 point

I think injuries were part of it and I dont think he could beat Ungar. Greg seems like the type of guy that having a feel for helps a lot and Ungar is so stingy and inactive on his feet I would imagine greg could not get much going and then probably had issues on bottom. Hope nothing but the best for him this year also excited to see what Elijah can do I think he has a really high ceiling with the way he wrestles for his size.1 point
-
I hope Greg becomes an AA this season. His collegiate career never really got off the ground, which is unfortunate for a 5 x state champion. Getting stuck behind Vito at 125 that one year didn’t help matters, as it probably cost him a year of collegiate experience that could have helped him in subsequent years. And then there were injuries, IIRC.1 point

I don't watch a ton of women's wrestling, but this Shonazarova chick from UZB at 40kg could beat a lot of high school boys...and the matches wouldn't even be close.1 point

Tough to imagine him doing much at the higher levels if he cant go 4 minutes. Really similar to Zare when hes fresh though. Iran puts 2 in the finals 2 still going for bronze USA puts 2 in the finals Burnett still alive for Bronze. edit Barari still alive at 55kg Iran still has all 5 guys from day 1 alive.1 point

Not getting into the numbers, I’ll quote Thomas Sowell : “Stop and think.” What the impact is to the numerous, youthful, unemployed, who desperately need work experience, yet won’t qualify for unemployment or welfare? What will they do with time on their hands, and no money? When they get bored? Is it fair to them?1 point
-
You're only concerned about the direct loss of employment and considering only those people. Thats an over simplified view. There is a direct impact on every dollar they would have had, and a direct cost to the consumer. This drives inflation for everyone.1 point
