  1. What happens when Kasak and shapiro headbutt each other and neither passes protocol in the ncaa finals?

  2. 65 teams, 330 wrestlers, 80 All-Americans, 10 Champions, and 1 Most Outstanding Wrestler. I am getting tingly all over. Oh, yeah. And a team title. Let’s just get the team race out of the way right away. The Highlander - There Can Be Only One It is Penn State’s to lose…..again. Boring. Well not for me. But for you guys. What is not boring is the race for second. Wow, did that heat up. With Iowa’s seed average (9.6) much lower than their ranking average (6.7) going into the conference tournament, Oklahoma State, and Nebraska are firmly in the conversation for second. Feels kinda Thunderdome-y to me. Three Intermat posters enter (@VakAttack, @ionel, @jajensen09), one man leaves. But do not count Virginia Tech, and Minnesota out as serious podium contenders. Northern Iowa, Cornell, and Illinois may be long shots, but don’t you dare try telling our muse @ILLINIWrestlingBlog that. Rest in Peace, buddy. Just don’t do it on that great big mat in the sky or we will send Jombo up to call the stall in all his ham and vinegar fueled wrath. Here is hoping your beloved Illini do the deed. Author’s Note: For the long-time readers in the crowd you know that I come up with these point projections based on how the average wrestler at each seed performs. Well, here is the thing about PSU, they just don’t do average. For example, based on average expectations last year they were projected to score 145 points. And we know what happened. So, yeah, 155.7 this year is more. If you throw in the PSU bump relative to the average, they project out to something like 183. Yep. Lou Gehrig Award Who is this year’s Iron Horse? How appropriate that our warrior is a soldier. Army’s Brady Colbert leads all entrants with 36 wins on the season among his total of 43 matches. The man is a thrown back. And if you aren’t careful, he will throw you to your back. Our hero had 10 pinfalls among his 36 wins. With Wyatt Pinfalldrickson flying into the sunset at the end of the tournament, perhaps we have a new American Hero in the Black Knight freshman. Is he The One Who Was Promised? The Harlem Globetrotters Award The Globetrotters have won 27,000 games. You read that right. They will beat anyone, anywhere, anytime. And Campbell shares that ethos. If Campbell is going out this year, they are doing it in style. The Fighting Camels have the highest average matches contested among their entered wrestlers. The Outliers I am not sure what to make of this but there are more wrestlers with sub-0.500 records than with perfect records. Go figure.

  4. Really good point which explains something to me. I remember being struck over the weekend by Ethen Miller's hair when he took off his headgear after a match and now I realize why it was notable - because he had hair On this trend, I think Cael and Casey were the trailblazers. As always everyone is following the top dogs.

  7. Last year I decided I wanted to see if I could make an excel file that to use for the 2024 NCAA Bracket to fill out and see how close I could get on projecting team points. This year I have upgraded the file a bit and have it ready for the 2025 tournament. This file can be used to either pick your own results or you can follow along with the actual tournament and fill it out as you go. HOW IT WORKS: There is a tab for each weight class that includes the bracket that will automatically fill out the bracket as you select the result of each match up (yellow box beside each name that has a drop down list of possible result). Based on this selection the bracket will automatically update the team points associated and progress each wrestler further into the bracket. The file keeps a track of each team point earned via advancement points, bonus points, and placement points just as trackwrestle does. There are tabs for each session to keep a running team score. There is a tab for overall team points that includes each wrestler based on team and the points they earned. There is also a tab for Finishers that includes the AA and blood round finishers at each weight. I have attached the blank 2025 NCAA Tournament file and the 2024 NCAA Tournament file to this post. Enjoy, if further instruction is needed to operate let me know. 2025 NCAA WRESTLING BRACKET.xlsx 2024 NCAA WRESTLING BRACKET.xlsx

  10. Whether they win a trophy or not, it's just insane that these guys are training at an off-campus warehouse that the team personally converted to a wrestling room, eating at "Mama Rahn's House". Meanwhile a few other schools have state of the art everything, fly around on private jets, and have 3/4 of their lineup bought and paid from other schools by a billionaire...and UNI is WINNING. It defies all conventional wisdom about "kids these days" and is a bright spot in a college athletic environment where money and clout are more important than loyalty and integrity.

  11. I don't get how the answers to this question aren't 100% the UNI Panther Train. Unless that's everyone's favorite team. UNI's wrestlers literally put on work boots and built their own room, and they just were in a tight team race decided in the final match with a team and coach that were mostly purchased by some billionaire as a tax write-off. I don't get how people wouldn't cheer for UNI. They are the college wrestling embodiment of the "Rocky" story.

  16. That's pretty good. I think it was Teague Moore who said that while he was coaching at Harvard, Granit Taropin (Soviet coach who trained Belaglazovs) was also there. Taropin couldn't believe how often Americans left Big Bruce off the GOAT lists.

  28. one loss was a MFF and yes he laid an egg in the opening round of the Big 12s but he came back and tore thru the back of the bracket like all the other 125ers owed him money. I think that loss may have been an eye opener, he looks like the best 125er in the tourney for my money, I'm picking him over Ramos in the final. Full disclosure: I'm an ASU diehard but I feel like I'm probably being fairly objective here.

  32. I have finished filling out my brackets. I filled out both the front and backside and have given this board the absolute truest predictions for who will reach All-American status and how they will finish in this years tournament. As a disclaimer, I have been inspired by our friend @jajensen09 and my predictions may be regarded as fanciful, but I hold steadfast that these predictions are as realistic and accurate as anything you will see leading up to next Thursday (do not mind if I make it into the fantasy pool and my team looks drastically different than my predictions in this post). 125. 1. 33. i don't particularly care about how strictly they hew to the rules and don't care that the guys were allowed to wrestle. i tend to favor a little wiggle room and grace. that said, the complaint is not that they weighed in late. the complaint is that they are supposed to arrive at 7:45 to check in for an 8:00 weigh-in. If they weren't there at 7:45 because they were exercising,* then even if they weighed in with their peers, they used more time to cut. That's the controversy. Feel free to dismiss it but at least meet the actual allegation head-on. *allegedly! i don't care!

  36. I don't have a specific favorite. I do tend to favor Lehigh because I started wrestling in the Lehigh Valley back in the day. If I consider Lehigh my favorite, then Northern Iowa is my second favorite. I appreciate things like grit and humility which they tend to exhibit and all while consistently overachieving.

  41. He was a a pinner in that event but not really overall. He had his share (~17 over his 4 years and only 2 that season). Also, as far as I can recall, none by cement job. When I saw him cooling down after the semis, I told him he didn't have a cement job. He laughed and agreed. He said he hadn't really hit any successfully in the past.
