  1. Hopke had surgery in August or September and hasn't been wrestling yet, unless he has just recently started back at it again.

  2. I don't know. Seems like Iowa has been the second best team since 2010 (The Sanderson Era). And this is with them getting short changed on the 2020 season. The bolded number is their average finish. Iowa has averaged two places higher than Cornell. And, again, that is without averaging in a first place for 2020 when they were heavy favorites to win. Iowa's best is as good, or better, than anyone else's. And their worst is better than anyone, PSU included, during that time. Their worst finish is better than PSU's two worst finishes.

  3. I don’t think most democrats today think illegal aliens are actually illegal…. We’re debating deportation rules for sex offenders. Why not debate illegal is illegal. Bye bye. Think about that. We’re trying to hold the illegal line at sex offenses. They’re letting us move the line fwiw. The line should be illegal. Bye. Not illegal + sex offenses.

  4. Landing Byrd, Webster, and now Aaron Stewart is a huge step. Bringing back Imar and bringing in AOC helps the recruiting trail. The new wrestling facility is already reaping dividends. The IRTC had two 2023 world team members, one lightweight and one upper weight. The culture has shifted for the better as a result. Resident and guest athletes have improved as a result. Folks forget that Poeta walked into a completely barren cupboard because Hef ate everything in it.

  5. I’ve been around since day 1. Flo is ten times better now than it was then. Wth are you talking about? Martin created the site but barely made any content, Joe is a good dude but hardly a professional journalist or broadcaster. Mike Mal was cool but does ESPN keep all of their commentators forever? Stop with the nonsense. Flo has done more for wrestling in the last 20 years than any company in the world. Are they always perfect? Hell no. Do they write cheesy headlines? Hell yes but overall they try to do what’s best for wrestling while trying to turn a buck in the process. Hammerlock has a bug up his ass about Flo even though he continues to give them his money.

  6. Hard not to appreciate a level headed poster calling it like they see it. We could use more like this guy. That sums it up quite well.

  7. To each his own. I'm watching the Australian Open on ESPN right now ... why ... because I want to see the match. I don't want to watch someone talk about the match for 30 minutes, I just want to watch the match. This morning i watched a match from the middle of the night night on Espn+. They are all there on demand, easy to find just like wrestling. I just want a service that streams the matches. I can read about various rankings etc don't need to hear someone explain why 5 is better than 6. But again, to each his own. Also I don't want to deal with a service that mixes and list high school and kids club in with college events. I just want to see the D1 events. Its like the AO on ESPN now, I don't have to search thru every current age group of tennis, I just click on the AO button. For wrestling its the NCAA button.

  8. They have good announcers, great coverage, never have a streaming issue, cover most all the B12 & ACC duals & tournament, plus some others and all of NCAA. What more do you want.

  9. I think the disappointment is not so much from the outcome, but the way they wrestled. Illinois' wrestlers were trailing in the third and still not willing to take a risk. It was simply uninspired wrestling. In the PSU vs Nebraska dual, the score was equally lopsided but Nebraska at least showed up, and they were huge underdogs at many weights. 174 Pinto attacked frequently, and even gave up a reattack takedown because of it, but at least he came out and wrestled. He was active in scrambles and wrestled like he believed he could win. At 285 at least Andrews said f*** it and went for broke with the throw. Again, he tried. 133 Van Dee goes for the winn-dixie and gets it. 141 Hardy made a Beau Bartlett match either the most or second-most entertaining bouts of the night. 149 Ridge wrestled tough and came out with the win over SVN who was most people's pick going into the match. Illinois had no urgency, no aggression, and seemed apathetic about the results of their matches.

  10. Have there been similar exhibitions as part of collegiate duals in the past? Any involving coaches? Kinda wild, I love it though. Maybe they can add a couple more matches from their RTCs. Between this and Flo's event a month later, the state of Iowa is getting spoiled

  12. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/vivek-ramaswamy-expected-to-depart-doge/ "People close to Musk have privately undercut Ramaswamy for weeks, frustrated with his lack of participation in the heavy lifting, according to sources familiar with the internal dynamics. There has been friction between the incoming rank and file DOGE staff and Ramaswamy, the sources said, and Ramaswamy has been subtly encouraged to exit. "Vivek has worn out his welcome," one person close to Trump said. "

  13. I don't understand why people are complaining about Iowa and Ohio State coaching. Those are the only two teams to win a title outside of Penn State in over a decade. They consistently put out competitive teams every year. We should be complaining about Michigan State and Wisconsin coaching. These are big ten schools with big ten budgets and they can't seem to coach a single competitive wrestler.

  14. Impressive. Looks like he'll be a good one. Glad to see Minnesota stocking up some young studs. It'll be fun to see what Hopke looks like after going with Gable all year. Millard, McEnnely, and Hopke should be a good core moving forward.

  18. Paddy wrestled 160 Sr. of high school year 4 yrs. ago, was time to bump, probably should have at the start of the season but, coming of a major knee surgery, needed to settle in, get in top form/shape and bump. Watch his last two matches at 157, he was a bit winded by middle of the 2nd period, never happens with him, has a huge tank, watch those close, he a bit shaky coming off the mat. Love & respect Sammy 100%, I won't comment on, "he can't beat Sasso". Better decision all around for Paddy, Sammy and the team. Go Bucks!!!

  21. I kind of agree (but I don't because you are talking about a high school match against someone on one leg, and he didn't place at drexel), but in the same breadth are you willing to admit that the Desanto who graduated was a way better citizen than the one who showed up? Developing him as a person is part of coaching, and despite the fact that he did cringy stuff at Iowa too, it definitely became less and less of a factor.

  22. People seem to forget Desanto was ranked number 2 in the country behind Lee before the upset, so again he was already pretty damn good.

  23. i mean it is the sun. the higher the co2 levels, the more of the sun’s heat is trapped in the atmosphere. 300 years ago humans started producing tons more co2 because of the industrial revolution. more co2 means more heat trapped which is why temperatures are raising faster than they ever have. that’s the core principle of climate change.

  28. if Gable wrestles every available remaining duals + B1G's + NCAA's it will be 20 matches, fwiw. O'Toole is currently 11-0 and it's not clear when he returns. He will have to go thru Hamiti (at B12's) and Levi again.

  29. Mesenbrink doesn't have the level of competition the others have. Steveson, Carter, KOT, Mendez would have the best wins imo

  30. After the discussion following Illinois performance last night, I have gone into a deep dive of looking at their teams over the past 25 years. Their best run since the turn of the century was at the beginning where their teams placed.. 2005 - Illinois - 6th - 70.5 points 2004 - Illinois - 7th - 69.5 points 2003 - Illinois - 9th - 53 points 2002 - Illinois -10th - 47.5 points 2001 - Illinois - 5th - 89 points 2000 - Illinois - 6th - 59.5 points They kind of tailed off after that but still finished in the top 10 in 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2016. The real collapse began in 2019 where they went from 13th the previous year to 26th. Since 2019 their lone top 20 appearance was in 2021 when they finished 18th. The big problem seems to be recruiting. 2019 - #18 Byrd and #39 Luffman 2020 - #70 and #73 - no starters 2021 - #43 Maximo Renteria and #81 Dylan Connell - Renteria would be a welcome addition at 125 this year 2022 - 0 top 100 recruits 2023 - #13 Kannon Webster and #25 Braedon Scoles 2024 - #30 Colin Kelly and #78 Ryan Bennett 2025 - 0 top 100 recruits It's hard to believe that in a state so rich with wrestling talent that they aren't able to keep at least a handful of guys home. Was the Mark Perry effect a key part of their performance during the run of 2012-2018? He is credited for recruiting Delgado (who followed him from Cal Poly) and Isaiah Martinez. With their roster this year, yes they have a guy at every weight other than 125 (no offense). But realistically they have 1 guy who should AA and a number of 12-20 ranked guys that could, with Scoles and Webster probably being the most likely at this point. Anyway, I have no reason for posting this other than I spent several hours digging around old Illinois teams, results, and recruits and thought I might as well post my findings in the off chance someone would be interested to read them. Anyway, rooting for Coach Poeta and the Fighting Illini as they move forward.

  35. I would agree to each their own. I am a glutton for wrestling coverage. I enjoy looking at rankings, prognostications, previews before a big dual, a breakdown after the dual, and I also really enjoy the limited amount of big freestyle events that get coverage. The build up before the actual event, and then seeing how it unfolds compared to my predictions and the predictions of those that are "knowledgeable" makes the event more intriguing for myself. If you're only concerned with NCAA streaming, then, yes, ESPN and Big10 provide much more coverage as they own the broadcasting rights to the majority of duals, conference tournaments, and of course the biggest of all, the NCAA championships. I pay for ESPN+ and BIG10/BIG10+ to watch the matches, I pay for Flowrestling because I want everything that surrounds the actual event.

  36. Midseason shows discussing the latest news in college wrestling. College rankings. High school rankings. Recruiting updates. Big boards. Literally any high school coverage. Match previews. Match recaps. U.S. Open coverage. WTT/OTT coverage. u17/u20/u23 coverage. Brackets. An archive of matches after they happen. Coverage of World's and content leading up to the event. A breakdown of Worlds/Olympics after they are completed. Just to name a few aspects of coverage and promotion that Flo does superior to ESPN. When I want to look up an old match or information regarding wrestling, I have never once gone to ESPN.com. Edit: Typo

  38. WKN, you're going thru a lot mental gymnastics to defend utterly idiotic, nonsensical democrats who voted (several times) in an insane manner. the only thing you're right on is that there is, in fact, laws already on the books and every time they were broken or unenforced it was by a democrat admin, official or organization. if Virginia Tech is out of compliance and has too many Men's athletes compared to Women, they don't receive federal or state aid. but cities and states that break federal law suffer no penalties. withhold government funding for breaking immigration laws and watch how quickly these virtue signaling pigs fall in line.

  42. They have one of the GOATS, Andy Hamilton. Kyle Klingman’s resume also speaks for itself - so from a position of “professional” writers, they have two of the best the sport has. Andy coordinates a network of writers who do the “insider” stories they feature on a number of programs. Guys like Jim Carlson and Travis Johnson have bonafide careers in journalism, others like Brian Reinhardt are former SIDs. There’s also some guys like Nick Corey and Dylan Guenther who have written for different spots, usually centered around a certain region or school. The insider stories are consistent and good reads. Engagement headlines for the social juice is just part of the world now - like most places - there’s always going to be a stinker of a headline here and there.

  43. The turkeys who write for Yahoo.com? Or maybe even USA Today? Reality is that many are poorly written. Often followed by a story that does not cover the basics in the first two paragraphs.\ When younger the headline would read "Yankees win, details inside". News broadcasts would tease with "XXX win, details at 11". This gave us the basic information and we could read further or listen later for details that helped flesh out the story. USA Today came out with news stories truncated and dumbed down for those who can't read for more than a few minutes. Other papers followed the trend and we have many stories reported that don 't cover the basics, Who - What -When - Where - Why and sometimes How. From poorly composed headlines to cutlines that are not clear under images & photos to artlcles that fail to report the facts we are seeing mediocrity in action.
