I am on the EIWA Hall of Fame committee and we are going to induct Denny into the HOF at the EIWA tournament in March. We were able to notify Denny before he passed away. He was so happy to hear that. A great guy whose newsletter was incredible for those of us fortunate to have read it. A great contributor to the sport and Lehigh wrestling in particular.8 points

The odds of Dimon being a democrat voter is about 95%. I expect that he is not making this statement out of hypocrisy nor to protect the people who want to Make America Great Again from effetes. He is issuing a warning to his own side. Instead of the democrats learning from the first Trump victory that they should not alienate their natural base of the regular guy (and his wife/family) who loves America, wants to be left alone, and needs a little help against the power forces in our society they have turned every single lever of power (government, education, media, corporate executives, etc.) against him. Dimon is simply pointing out to his own side that maybe this is not wise.5 points

Here's how i see it: people never really care about policy. what they care about is the soap opera of politics: the rhetoric, the appearance, the virtuous speeches and fake smiles. until.... things get really bad. then they start caring about what they should have cared about the entire time: the policy that affects our lives. imo, this is where Dimon is coming from at the moment. i honestly don't care (and i don't think anyone really should) about who is the more evil candidate. i care about the how their policies are going to affect the citizens of this country.3 points

You hit the key points of my ritual argument for Dake: 1. No redshirt, no redshirt, no redshirt. Huge difference. He won an NCAA championship nine months after he was in high school. How confident is everyone Cael would have done that? 2. Never really in substantial jeopardy at NCAAs. And his four wins in the finals were notable. Marion, who made another final and lost in OT, and who lost a semi on calls so extreme that they contributed to rule changes. He absolutely brutalized Molinaro, who then became an undefeated national champ. Then St. John, who won the next year. And the coup de grace was the great David Taylor, who won the Hodge the year before and the year after. Kyle Dake, sitting on three titles, went up a weight to where he wasn't even cutting to wrestle the Hodge winner, and beat him three times in a row in three completely different matches. This is an extraordinary fact. 3. Not as dominant before NCAAs, but he was putting together a very strong academic record at an Ivy League school and cutting a lot of weight the years he lost matches. It's reality -- that's a very big impediment that's gonna lead to competing in a lot of matches when you're just exhausted. I think picking Cael is totally reasonable and defensible. But I have Dake at least in a tie with him.3 points

Normally it wouldn't matter, but when you claim there is no legitimate case for Dake, what I am about to say needs to be considered. Cael wasn't undefeated. He lost in the 1997-1998 season to the late Paul Jenn during his true freshman (redshirt) year. Jenn, who I believe was a walk on at Iowa, took 6th at Big 10's in 1998, going 1-3. He went 2-2 at nationals; getting majored (Aaron Simpson) and teched (Eggum) against the 4th and 5th place finishers. This isn't just a technicality; Dake didn't redshirt his true freshman year. Who knows how many other matches Cael would have lost against higher level competition had he competed like Dake. Maybe he would have went on a run and still won nationals; we will never know. But being undefeated would not be an argument in his favor if he is going to be judged on a similar playing field. You can obviously still say that Cael is the best. I agree with you on Cael being the greatest due to his incredible rate of improvement and high level of bonus against top competition (He teched Paul Jenn just a year later). Dake wrestled tighter matches against better guys. But to say there is no argument for Dake does not take all the facts into consideration.3 points

Jonathan Turley takes down aspects of the media with facts and data. The media says don't do your own research, you will be wrong. Listen to us and don't research. This is really a very interesting article by Turley. The case is the laptop of Hunter Biden. Is it Russian Disinformation or Real? Some are still saying it is misinformation when even the DOJ has said it is real. https://jonathanturley.org/2024/01/18/trust-us-were-the-media-the-biden-laptop-is-proven-authentic-as-past-deniers-double-down-on-media-controls/ After years of suppressing the story and casting doubts over its authenticity, many in the media in the last year have belatedly and reluctantly acknowledged that the Hunter Biden laptop is real. Some of us reached that conclusion years ago due to the self-authenticating emails confirmed by third parties. However, the denials and doubts have continued, including most recently by Rep. Dan Goldman (D., N.Y.) in hearings. The Justice Department has now again confirmed the authenticity and added details on why these denials are unsupported. This week, the Justice Department confirmed that the laptop was authenticated through forensic examination and a search warrant on Hunter’s Apple iCloud. Hunter’s electronic devices were backed up on the Cloud and “the results of the search were largely duplicative of information investigators had already obtained from Apple.” That is only the latest such confirmation, but some have continued to desperately cast doubts the laptop, which Hunter himself said might be the product of Russian intelligence. Once again, the last dogs in this fruitless fight are the most partisan among us. Rep. Goldman, for example, recently lambasted witnesses who referenced the laptop and challenged the credibility of a journalist who cited the laptop. Goldman attacked Journalist Michael Shellenberger and declared “You have no idea, you know hard drives can be manipulated. Hard drives can be manipulated by Rudy Giuliani or Russia. There is actual evidence of it, but the point is it’s not the same thing.” Goldman has never revealed the “actual evidence” showing that the laptop is fake or why the Justice Department and FBI are making the same false claim in court if such evidence exists. The same week that the Biden Administration again confirmed the authenticity of the laptop, one of the loudest laptop deniers wrote a telling column on why the public should avoid researching such questions on their own. The Washington Post’s Philip Bump has repeatedly pushed false stories from Lafayette Park to Russian collusion to the laptop. Even after many in the media admitted that the laptop was authentic, Bump was still declaring that it was a “conspiracy theory.” Recently, in response to a column on these false claims, the Post remarkably declared that Bump’s original claims on Lafayette Park, the Hunter Biden laptop, and Russian collusion were true and they stand by them. This week, Bump warned citizens that they needed to continue to get their news from the media and not try to learn the truth on their own. In a column titled “Doing your own research is a good way to end up being wrong,” Bump states without an sense of self-awareness that citizens will often “embrace dubious information supporting their belief than information that corroborates the allegations” — precisely what critics have accused Bump of doing for years on the laptop and other false stories. Bump’s column is a must read for understanding the sense of entitlement of columnists in today’s age of “advocacy journalism.” It is consistent with what Bump said in an interview last year before he walked out after being confronted about false stories. In a podcast interview with Noam Dworman, Bump became exasperated and said “I’m gonna lose my mind” when Dworman offered facts contradicting his view. Ironically, when Dworman noted that half of the country does not believe his positions, Bump shot back “I know, because half the country doesn’t actually dig into the issues.” However, Bump does not believe that they should actually dig into the issues but accept his view. He chastised Dworman and the public “because you don’t listen to the press. I’m sitting here and I’m telling you, you’re wrong about these things, and you don’t listen … you refuse to listen to what I’m saying to you. You asked me on to present evidence. I keep telling you.” Indeed, Bump and others kept telling people that the laptop was a “conspiracy theory” and possible Russian disinformation. Now, he is reminding people not to do their own research as the Post expressly declared that the prior false claims in his columns were actually true. This is why, at the start of our Republic, alternative media sprang up with pamphleteers like Thomas Paine. Citizens rejected the state-supporting media and searched for their own sources. Today citizen journalists can be found on the Internet in blogs and other sites that carry opposing views or accounts. The media is already moving to be sure that the public is limited in what they are allowed to see or hear. After Donald Trump won the Iowa caucuses, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow explained to viewers that the network had decided that they should not hear Trump’s victory speech because he would only tell them “untrue things.” As noted by Bump, citizens are much safer to just accept what they are given and avoid the temptation to do their own research. Censorship is now actually proclaimed as a form of virtue signaling, assuring viewers that they will not have to hear certain opposing views or figures. There is little tolerance for those who insist on seeking out such news. After all, as the Post’s Bump explained, “I’m telling you, you’re wrong about these things, and you don’t listen.” mspart2 points

Nope. He didn’t make that argument, he should be commended for his delicate handling of an irrational question from an irrational judge. She made the preposterous direction that it was a yes or no question. It’s not. More has to be known, such as: why did he give the order? Is the opponent wearing a suicide vest? Pointing a gun? Did they shoot him? Was it a lawful order? Why would the Seals be taking commands from the President and not their chain of command? In the extremely unlikely event that a President committed such an act, Sauer is correct, that impeachment and conviction would have to come first. He didn’t say the president would be immune if he was first convicted in the Senate.2 points

The dimocrat party is the least democratic party of all. Even if a candidate wins delegates, party selected Super Delegates have enough power to sway the election to their preferred candidate. While they screech about the electoral college and one man one vote, they strive to pack the court and add states to improve their chances. When in the minority, they wield the filibuster with a vengeance, and deride it as racist Jim Crow when in the majority. They have no, or at least little, virtue.2 points

I have posted about this before, but I still don't get why wrestlers are so impressed by the four weight classes in four years. He got bigger and moved up. Maybe to the general public it sounds like he is taking on all comers, but he never really wrestled up a weight class. He also had a reputation as a big time weight cutter, so he was never wrestling guys that where bigger than him, maybe some years he cut less, but he was never undersized. When I was growing up and boxing was big, some of the top guys would go up a weight class or two and fight the title holder so they could have multiple belts at the same time. Sugar Ray Leonard famously weighed in fully clothed with rolls of coins in his pockets for his fight with Marvin Hagler. This is not what Dake did. This does not take way from his amazing career. MY personal rankings of his feats (collegiate editiion): 1. 4X titles 2. Beating an all timer in Taylor 2X 3. Winning as a true freshman ... 99. Got bigger and moved up in weight class (Hell I got him beat by a mile for putting on weight as I got older)2 points

I agree, but I have skin in the game. One thing that is true about Killian is that he battled injuries for three years AND this is significant bc 1) he did it without much fanfare which 2) makes him like most DI kids. Kid was/is an everyman, blue collar hero: most of us busted our ass, wrestled hurt, rolled with the punches. But he just gritted it out for those of us without the skill, slickness, intelligence, grit, and dope coiffure that he had.2 points
