I did a kindergarten RS for my son. He will turn 19 in late April of his SR year in HS. Even with the RS, he is the smallest kid in his class - with a 160+ IQ. He is taking AP Pre-Calc next year as a 7th grader. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

If you don't want to read the rambling paragraphs I mashed on my phone below, the "too long, didn't read" version is: I would be eggcited by a coaching staff if I was confident a realistic improvement was available. Long version: I would be onboard with a coaching change right now if there was an eggciting but realistic new option available (was eggcited by the David Taylor to Iowa rumors when they swirled around briefly) or if there was an eggsisting staff change that would guarantee equal or better results. Look, I'm not a Brands apologist. I think there are obvious deficiencies in the current staff makeup and when I look at Iowa wrestlers, even as an Iowa fan, I see weaknesses - relatively "poor" scrambling being one of them. Additionally, even though it's cool to have a long standing streak of getting wrestlers into the finals, consistently coming up short has just gotten eggstremely tiresome. I also have to say that, although I've had very positive (albeit brief) interactions with TnT, and it is encouraging to see how positively the wrestlers have spoken about the staff, particularly from this past season (but of course, not ignoring the many puzzling burned bridges from years past), the matside antics and weird post/pre match interviews are less than Gucci. I think Brands may have had his hands tied in regards to Bill Bassett's demands (if we can even believe what the pundits are putting out there as to the reason for the break up) but I can't help but think that Brands probably didn't navigate that tension with the most elegance. NOW, with that out of the way, Im just not convinced there is a REALISTIC option out there right now that could step in and practically immediately improve on results - Iowa fans and boosters will not tolerate an 8th place finish. Lots of people like to poo poo the staff (within decent reasoning) and claim others could do it better but yet somehow conveniently manage to ignore the fact that no program outside of PSU has performed consistently better than Iowa. For a minute there, it looked like Ohio State was going to be the big number 2, but, although the future looks promising, they went through a really rough patch. That won't be tolerated at Iowa. There was a lot of hype and admiration for what NC State has been doing, but then they went ahead and had the worst collapse at NCAAs that I can remember 2 years ago. That won't fly at Iowa. Even Nebraska - the future looks very bright - but prior to this past year they had even worse shortcomings and disappointments at NCAAs than Iowa and were often the butt of jokes online. So, for those calling for a change, I hear ya and I'm with ya. But who could actually step in and do better?5 points

https://uww.org/article/budapest-ranking-series-2025-entries-freestyle https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/14331600-2025-budapest-ranking-series-tournament-entries-mens-freestyle 57kg: Lilledahl and RBY are our American guys (I need that match) in there way will be Bazarganov from Azerbijan, UULU from Kyrgyzstan, Tsukaev from serbia and pavlov from Russia. 61kg: American guys Forrest, Silva and Shawyver both representing puerto rico. We could see Jax vs Suda which would be absolutely awesome. Suda is Japans rep and probably the biggest threat to whomever we send this ranking series is after Jax's final x series with Vito so could be a world final preview. Tairybek uulu from Kyrgyzstan is probably the other big hitter here. 65kg: No americans repping USA here Seabass is going and will get some tough matches. Tevanyan and dudaev are probably the most notable but I am interested to see how Abdullah toprak is. I think he will be Stanichs toughest match at u20's. (Colin realbuto is also competing) 70kg: No PJ at 70 but we will have James green, Gomez, and Voinovich. Musukaev, Kemertelidze, Aoyogi, Heybatov, Kaprynov are the heavy hitters here. I think Austin has a good shot of knocking off 1 or 2 of these guys but if he can run this field he is a gold medal threat. Aoyogi is probably the favorite here but if any of Kaprynov,Gomez,Heybatov took it I do not think it is a shock at all. 74kg: This weight is nuts David carr is going. Bayramov, Takahashi (beat mitchell at u23's), Valiev, Salkazonov (beat carr a few months ago pretty sound), Kaipanov and Khaniev. Valiev is obviously the favorite but I am super excited to see what Carr,Takahashi and Kaniev can do as the younger guys in the field. 79kg: Levi and Michael labriola are the two americans here but Labs is representing puerto rico which is cool they truly are US south at this point. I am not as familiar with the guys at this weight. Japans guy lost to Wick 8-0 so Levi should smoke him. Kougiomoustidis notably gave dake some really tough matches a few years ago, I think this is his first venture up to 79kg so that would be a great litmus test. Yergesh has been relatively pedestrian on the senior seen but he does have a win over Starocci at u23's a few years go. 86kg: This weight will be fun we have Zahid going. Kadi is the first name that pops out. Dhizoev and Zahid met this year and it was a 8-0 win for zahid. Bagaev will be a good test for Zahid as well. The name that really interest me is Ali Savadkhoui, that is the guy that beat JB at the world cup back in 21 or 22. 92kg: Trent going here and really should get a shot at the guys he is going to need to beat at worlds. Nurmagomedov, Karugliev, Abakarov are all here. 97kg: no kyle 125kg: no wyatt sorry for getting lazy at the end @Jon_Kozak how did I do did I miss any heavy hitters?4 points

Spencer Lee just took home an Olympic silver and is the odds-on favorite to win worlds this year. Buchanan chose, on his own, to pick Iowa and they coached him up to a natty over a (holds nose) very game Focus and a likely 2-3x champ in Ryder (McEnally pending). Ayala has made the finals twice. Not his fault he ran into the buzz saw known as Lucas Byrd, Illinois Athlete Of The Year. Iowa won the team trophy in '21 and would have in '20 as well. Thomas Gilman did nearly all his best work at HWC. Maybe if he stayed there he would not have attempted a merkle costing him potential Olympic gold. Kueter chose wrestling over football in what was likely the most pivotal offseason of his football career, one that could cost him literally tens of millions of dollars if we play the what-if game. The sky is not falling. Iowa is still Iowa. I would gladly take Iowa's results and outlook.2 points

You’re missing the point of the analogy. It’s not saying immigrants are literally breaking into your house or stealing your food. It’s about respecting boundaries and rules. A country, like a home, has laws to protect its resources and citizens. Illegal aliens bypass those laws, just like squatting ignores property rights. Sure, a country’s bigger than a house, but the principle’s the same: fairness matters. Calling MAGA heartless for wanting legal processes followed ignores their priorities... caring for Americans first... workers struggling with job competition... a system that rewards those who wait years to enter legally. Citizens should have a say in who lives here and shapes our culture; that’s partly why we have legal immigration processes. Open borders won’t solve poverty.2 points

Hey 152, Analogy to your conundrum. Someone you do not know, comes into your house and starts living there or takes up residence in your yard without asking you or getting your permission. If you want said person to stay, and fight to have them stay, you have a heart. If you want said person to leave, and go through the legal process or not you are heartless. My guess is that you will find way more heartless folks than those with a heart. There are laws, or should be, regarding squatting in a house or property that does not belong to you. There are laws, or should be (and actually are on the books), regarding entering the country illegally and staying in that country you do not belong to. mspart2 points

A small part of my post got deleted earlier so I'll be brief: I have a very strong feeling that many of the boosters, deep down, are more comfortable being a near lock at 2nd-4th (and the rare 5th) than taking a gamble on the new and unknown. I believe I read a post on HR in the past where Bob claimed he would be "done when Tom's done" so whoever the next coach is better generate an elephant's worth of eggcitement in order to keep the cash flowing2 points

I don't think that is correct. His RS would have been 21-22 school year, if he is going to graduate in 2026. According to Track he was wrestling between 100 - 106 in the spring of 2021. He won Cadets at 45 KG (99 lbs) in July of 2021 before he redshirted. I suppose you could argue that the best 99 lber in the world in July 2021, would of needed to a redshirt to compete at the State tournament in March 2022 at 106, but he wasn't competing at 95 lbs when he would of been a freshman.2 points

Eh, it's your call. We had a thread about the biggest threat regarding Christian extremists and it turned into a prolonged discussion about Pol Pot in which "El Luchador," linked a 1998 article from his depth that he didn't read and claimed that was proof the "Leftists" were the real threats. Then insisted that Ethnocentric Nationalists aren't part of the far right nor re fascists. So basically, he thinks anyone who is bad is a "Leftist." You can if you'd like, but I don't think it'd actually serve a purpose. Jimmy would reply a LOT, I wouldn't read them. Scout would just post something unrelated from X and the people on the right who are honest would just ignore it or like mspart, 'they're all bad.'1 point

It's not obvious to me. It's obvious to me that POSITION and marketability plays a role. People tried to do this with Angel Reese and Caitlyn Clark, suggesting Clark got paid because she was a "pretty white girl." Someone then pointed out that'd be like saying Larry Bird got deals because of his good looks. But even then, that'd make more sense as it was Boston in the 1980s. No, sports is a meritocracy now. It's just like the NFL. Running Backs aren't making less because they're primarily black, they're being paid less because the position has become undervalued. These schools want to keep the best players. If Jerimiah Smith, a guy who'd probably be a top 3 WR in the NFL RIGHT NOW...wasn't good, he wouldn't be getting ~5M in NIL. But he's a freak WR. He's like a mix of Julio Jones and Calvin Johnson. The ONE area I can't speak with as much confidence would be Women's niche sports. We all know why Livvy Dunne getsa paid. Are there Black Gymnasts who are as attractive and as high profile that aren't? I don't know. I know Simone Billes and Serena Williams made a massive amount of money in endorsements(and continue to).1 point

You didn’t cite several studies, you cited one, if we want to call it a study, it was based on a google survey, only asked about “expectations” and not actual earnings, the “expectations” were opposite of what you claim, and it didn’t have the highest earning sports well-represented. The other links you posted were just media articles, and were focused on women’s sports. I agree that there’s a racial disparity in women’s sports. But the majority of NIL dollars are spent on men’s sports, mainly football and basketball. I did analyze the data I posted. 55% of the top 20 valued players are black, with them having 52% of the dollar value. You were the one that kept citing that “51% of NCAA athletes are people of color,” so the numbers are in line with that. Speaking of, will you at least acknowledge that your claim of “people of color only get 16% of NIL dollars” is complete nonsense? That was the main thing I was trying to point out. If we can agree on that, sure I’ll agree that the % of players on top football and basketball teams that are black is higher than 50%. But again, the value that the top white football players have is almost entirely driven by being a quarterback. Again as I mentioned this is very similar to who’s the highest paid players in the NFL, actually looks like based on last year’s salaries the top 20 NFL salaries are more skewed toward whites than NIL valuations: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-25-highest-paid-players-2024/694fb43f95a9784f4724647d Of the top 21 paid players in the NFL (there was a tie for 20), 11 are white, 10 of which are QB’s. And NFL teams care way more about winning Super Bowls than social media followers.1 point

A better way would be to do it with respect for their humanity, with due process, and with public transparency. "Quickly" is the least important thing here. Literally absolutely everything else is more important. Unless you prefer that we run the USA like China does their country. I'm not in favor of that. In the US, we've always done it better. I'd like to think we still can. (Too bad ICE is ruining that.)1 point

Once again. You lack reading comprehension. He was Wrestling 95 during his hold back year. This means that if he would have wrestled as a freshman that year, he would have weighed in at 11 pounds under 106 at Super32 just a month and a half before the high school season, not a year. Honestly, do you even try to understand what you're responding to? Side Question: When has Bo ever cut a significant amount of weight? He's jumped weights every year of high school and only sought out the toughest competition. Please don't try to answer because I'm sure you're as clueless on this topic as any of the others regarding him. I'm not even a Bo Bassett guy, but the way you and the rest of the ignorant haters make false statements about him, his age, and his "advantages" is just absolutely ridiculous.1 point
-
You're getting at relativity, which is fine. But if we're going to make relative arguments, my view is that although compared to the field, Spencer is a good scrambler, it's probably his weakest skill. He is an absolute beast at muscling guys around and putting them off balance and then taking them down on his feet, and he is a killing machine on top. Those are dominant skills that he is the best at by far. In scrambles, however, his opponents have had far more luck in getting into winning positions and tagging him with his very rare losses.1 point
-
Yeah, 95 to 106 is 11 pounds. I know that Math can get difficult, but...not 9 pounds. And that's over 10% of his body weight. That's a BIG difference. That's a 150 having to Wrestle ~170. You asked me on another thread why I cared so much about a cease-fire. Why do YOU care so much about a kid being held back a year so he's ready to compete or MORE ready to compete given everything that's at stake for some of these kids? Live changing NIL money. Just 200K at 19 years old is tens of millions if invested right by retirement age. You have an odd metric for "deplorable."1 point
-
If I'm not mistaken, Bo wrestled at 95 pounds at super 32 during his holdback year. His holdback was not to gain a "competitive advantage" but to avoid a massive disadvantage that would be wrestling as a notably undersized 106 as a freshman. @Caveira thinks this is among the more deplorable acts in human behavior. I simply disagree and say let the kid make the most of his high school years in athletics. High school wrestling was some of the best times I've had in my life, and to hold back and extra year due to being behind maturity wise (which is how any 15 year old weighs less than 100 pounds) is fine with me.1 point

As someone that lives in a rare disease space, insurance companies don't need a legit reason to deny you. They just will because they don't want to pay for it. I bet it’s on x too https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8r4xUWu/ 00:00:00 --> 00:00:02 The United States is clear 00:00:02 --> 00:00:07 we will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon. 00:00:07 --> 00:00:09 If I'm the president, we will attack Iran. 00:00:09 --> 00:00:12 Whatever stage of development they might be 00:00:12 --> 00:00:14 in their nuclear weapons program 00:00:14 --> 00:00:16 in the next 10 years, during which 00:00:16 --> 00:00:19 they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, 00:00:20 --> 00:00:24 we would be able to totally obliterate them. 00:00:24 --> 00:00:25 That's a terrible thing to say, 00:00:25 --> 00:00:28 but those people who run Iran need to understand that. 00:00:30 --> 00:00:31 Make no mistake, 00:00:31 --> 00:00:34 a nuclear armed Iran is not a challenge that can be contained. 00:00:34 --> 00:00:36 It would threaten the elimination of Israel, 00:00:36 --> 00:00:38 the security of Gulf nations, 00:00:39 --> 00:00:41 and the stability of the global economy. 00:00:42 --> 00:00:45 It risk triggering a nuclear arms race in the region 00:00:45 --> 00:00:47 and the unraveling of the Non Proliferation Treaty. 00:00:48 --> 00:00:50 That's why our coalition of countries 00:00:50 --> 00:00:52 is holding the Iranian government accountable. 00:00:52 --> 00:00:55 And that's why the United States will do what we must 00:00:55 --> 00:00:59 to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. 00:00:59 --> 00:01:01 As long as I'm president of the United States, 00:01:01 --> 00:01:03 Iran will not get a nuclear weapon. 00:01:04 --> 00:01:06 I've made that clear when I came into office. 00:01:06 --> 00:01:08 And look, I mean, 00:01:08 --> 00:01:11 Iran has American blood on their hands, okay? 00:01:11 --> 00:01:15 And what we saw in terms of just the. 00:01:15 --> 00:01:18 This attack on Israel, 200 ballistic missiles. 00:01:19 --> 00:01:21 What we need to do 00:01:21 --> 00:01:28 to ensure that Iran never achieves the ability to be a nuclear power, 00:01:28 --> 00:01:30 that is one of my highest priorities. 00:01:30 --> 00:01:31 So if you have proof that1 point

You are assuming a frictionless world. But in reality they deny first and count on the insured not having the will, the means, or the knowledge to sue to enforce their rights.
