  4. Perhaps nothing like this had never happened before. Is that a reason to misrepresent the facts of the issue. Only "demonstrators" died on Jan 6. One was shot dead by a capital police officer, 1 died of drug overdose, 2 died of heart attacks. Officer Sicknick died of suffering 2 strokes the day after and these strokes were confirmed had nothing to do with the previous day. Another officer died days later of suicide. Two others died in the summer months later. There is no reason to misrepresent (lie) about the facts of the event. To call it an insurrection is also misrepresenting what happened. No one has been prosecuted for insurrection. So that is not what happened. Please convince me that the Federal Government would not prosecute that if they could. It can't be shown. There was no insurrection. There was no effort to overthrow the government in a weaponless insurrection. After a few hours authorities said it was time to go and everyone left. That fact alone is how all insurrections end, wouldn't you think? mspart

  5. My pick. The N Iowa program optimizes gritty tough wrestling and Schwab, and staff, take good wrestlers and make them better. I just like their style and culture. Lot's of deserving mentions in the replies. It's always easier to win with the hosses, but give me those "Lunatic Fringe" programs that grind and believe themselves to wins. It's folktale wrestling to the core.

  6. Wow.....a couple of interesting picks here, especially Fleeger and Nix....Nix was tough, but had a short career....got hurt his sophomore year....I want to say Big Ten finals....wrestling nemesis Jack Griffin and Griffin hit a cutback and that is where the injury came. Griffin became an NCAA Champion, and Nix was an NCAA runnerup the year before, losing to Jack Cuvo in the finals.

  7. Watch the whole match! except for the pushout 1:30 into the first period where Downey got the caution the whole neutral match is in the center of the ring over the stripes. Downey remains in the center over the stripes pretty much the entire 3rd period. In SV Taylor gets two under hooks between the center and the edge and immediately just forces action off the mat. With these two guys you could make it a 5 point techfall threshold and its always going to be 3pt decision

  8. Nope. I was at more "horrible" high school parties and college sports victory celebrations than what happened on Jan 6th in terms of violence, destruction, police stand offs, etc. Certainly no security people waving in crowds of grandmothers who walked calmly between the velvet ropes were involved in those events.

  11. Pretty sure I was at that 07 dual, lot of good names on that team, Bond's brother coached him well in that one. I am sure my good internet buddy MP is not ducking a response, he would shirley never duck. Thus I suspect that after reading IWB's take on the dual he fell ill. I'd expect he will be out of action for a couple weeks. Therefore I'll try to fill in (using WS #s). 125: Riley169 vs McCrone10 I'm still disappointed Renteria left, I really liked that kid, thought he was going places and he has, saw him at Corvallis late last year he is looking great, just beat the McCrone. Riley is the guy but the nuts will put up 4 or 5 here, lets say 5. 0 - 5 OhS 133: Byrd4 vs Bouzakis3 The chirp byrd versus a bouzakis, whatever that is, 3pt Illini 3 - 5 OhS 141: Pucino15 vs Mendez1 Ok gotta call this one for the bucks, 3 pts 3 - 8 OhS 149: Webster7 vs D'Emilio12 By definition this has decision written all over it, 3 IL 6 - 8 OhS 157: Kraisser44 vs Gallagher21 Kraissier things have happed but can Jason put Paddy to his back, tough call here, but ok for now lets say 3 OhS 6 - 11 OhS 165: Scoles 17 vs Sasso6 Ok I like Sammy, its great he made it back, I saw him up close and personal in Vegas and this is not the same Sammy, sorry but 3 pt Illinois 9 - 11 OhS 174: D-Braunagel27 vs Kharchia6 The little Brawny gave KOT all he wanted but I'm guessing Jason is ready for it, 3 pt bucknuts 9 - 14 OhS 184: Ruth15 vs Rogotzke16 Are you kidding ... The Destroyer of Worlds versus a ryder, this match'll be decided on their feet, 3 pt Illinois 12 - 14 OhS 197: Z-Braunagel14 vs Shumate25 The Big Brawny all day and twice on Friday, 3 pt Illini 15 - 14 IL 285: Luffman13 vs Feldman4 The dual is on the line, which kind of man is gonna show up. If my good buddy Wkn were making the call he might say Luke with the pinfeld. But me ... I think the big LL is gonna poke Luke in the ribs early, just to make sure he's good to go, and then win a hard fought decision and a dual win for the Illini. Sorry MP and buckEs, 3 pt Illinois. 18 - 14 IL

  14. Who thinks that there were quite a few completely idiotic people that used the election results as a way to say and do completely idiotic things on Jan 6th? Who thinks that what happened on Jan 6th was COMPLETELY overblown for political reasons and/or utter hate for a single person? Who thinks a lot of people in the US, and on these boards, are complete and utter hypocrites when it comes to condemning protests/riots due to political reasons and/or utter hate for a single person??

  16. Good enough to win two Big Ten duals for the ILLINI. Peter Marinopoulos was a true Freshman who gave up his redshirt to bump up to heavyweight because Luke Luffman was injured. As for the 197 pounder who started, he filled in for Zac Braunagel because of an Olympic redshirt. He was doing really well and progressing along until he injured his knee, then came back after surgery in about two or three weeks and finished the season. Both of those two are heroes, and I don't think their special situations help anybody's argument here. As for weight classes, the more the merrier. Why would anybody want fewer? There should be a weight class for every pound on the scale starting at 30 all the way to 1,000. Once you get past 1,000, it's not really wrestling any more.

  21. In the beginning, yes I would agree. Now, however, Mizzou consistently pull in top recruits (Mendoza, KOT, Rath, etc.).

  22. A ) AI agrees? You should have stuck with using your own opinion. Your opinion holds much more value to me in a discussion type manner than any manner of AI might. Also, it isn't AI - it's a computer program that scrapes the internet for the most statistically logical answer. It isn't an actual opinion of some AI think computer. I would think that you wouldn't need the opinion of some fake machine for validation. B ) I came up in an era when people I knew and actually trained with destroyed their lives over cutting weight, up to and including death. I wrestled 134lbs when I weighed about 140-145lbs typically. I was not the norm. Our 126lber weighed as much, if not more than me, quite often. That is why I don't want anybody cutting too much weight. I am a big advocator to not cut weight. If you over the next weight class up (145lbs going 133lbs, for example), you should not be going 133lbs. The long term effects could be lethal. C ) I am okay with my opinion on needing new weight classes being different than yours or anyone else's opinion. I still would prefer we align with the international weights. I think we would see more wrestlers give the senior level a go - at all weights. I also think that we might find more 'gems' that are just better at MFS than they are collegiate folkstyle. D ) Why are you still using boxing? We are more like Judo, Jits, or MMA than Boxing in most every regard. Hand speed matters a lot more in boxing than any other sport. There is a reason that chonkers (sans Fury who is ~6'9" with the reach to go with) don't often thrive at heavyweight. Slow hands.

  27. It's easy to make claims that can't be disproven. I don't foresee him disrupting his MMA career to come out and put his money where his mouth is. He's just talking to make headlines. He's in the promotion business now. I'm curious what others think, but I believe he would be the underdog against Zahid right now. Zahid was a singlet pull away from beating Brooks, and has only improved over the past handful of years as well as grown into the weight. Nickal hasn't focused on freestyle wrestling in multiple years. I'd love to see it though.

  35. Which one is it TPT. Not many do it or many have been caught? Registering to vote is different than voting at the polling place. If we need ID for Social Security, ID to enter a federal building, ID to fly, ID to drive, ID to get insurance, ID to hunt, ID to get benefits such as SNAP, Medicare, Pell grants, etc, then requiring ID to vote should not be such a huge deal. In fact, ID is required to have a bank account, a phone, a energy bill, a loan, etc. With perhaps a few exceptions noted regarding Indian Nation, which don't hold water really, but ok, any citizen of the USA should have to present an ID to vote. mspart

  36. Stop me if this has already been said. But ID is needed to register. And not ID in the typical sense of a small plastic card. Sometimes in the form of a birth certificate coupled with a utility bill. These are required to tie you to an address. Which is located inside a district. That district determines which elections are on your particular ballot. If you are registered to vote. You have already done the hard part. Proved who you are and where you live. Confirming your address is in essence confirming who you are when you registered. Considering the risk vs reward of trying to fraudulently vote for someone else it is not likely that someone would try to do it. Hint, not many people have. Many have been caught. The numbers of which have not been high enough to be statistically significant enough to sway an election. This is what we call a 'Solution in search of a problem'. Everyone knows that forcing people to pay more, just for the opportunity to vote will disenfranchise some. And if the rationale for wanting voter ID laws for one reason is enough then surely it is for this reason too. If even one person is disenfranchised to vote, isn't that too many? Many of those people will be poor. Not able to afford to get ID(keeping in mind not everyone drives) or make multiple trips to scarcer and scarcer DMVs. Or the idea of having to wait in longer and longer voting lines, where conveniently enough republicans have enacted laws to no allow them to receive water(what are their reasons for that, btw? To protect your vote from undue influence, BS!) The confess their motives with their actions. Anyone that defends them is benefitting(or convinced they are benefitting, when they clearly aren't) from the tactics and cannot be trusted to honest. Long story short. People who, typically, want to pay less in taxes want others to pay more just to participate. All while making themselves believe its for the greater good when we all know it isn't and its been proven. So can we just drop this already?

  39. 1. Yes down vs historical, but this year’s Midlands/Scuffle/Salute were pretty similar to the last couple years IMO. IIRC (could be wrong) PSU did not send anyone to the Scuffle last year so the fact that they did this year was a positive IMO 2, 3, 5 & 6. True but as above, is this any different than the last few years? If anything within the aforementioned tournaments and CKLV there’s probably been less MFF’s since they changed the rule making the first one a loss. 4. Can you share what comments from Smith you’re referencing? If he said that I would guess that has more relevance to redshirt decisions. My bet would be that about 99% of “ducks” are the coach’s decision and not the wrestlers’ What have even been the biggest ducks so far? Maybe Arnold/Ferrari and that was an intrasquad match. We got the matchup everyone wanted in Haines/O’Toole, and thanks to Rokfin sucking everyone was able to watch it for free. I’m with @Wrestleknownothing, the season doesn’t really start until the conference dual season. If that is a dud then maybe I’ll get on board with this OP.
