you all act as if jordan said hes going to snap carter's leg in half and make sure he cant walk ever again. all he said was that if he were wrestling him he would target his shots to the side with a cast on it. THATS IT. moreover, he didnt say anything any coach in the country wouldnt say to their kid. you guys, just like bo, are making this into something it isnt.4 points

There's zero evidence to support that. On the other hand, Coach Poeta has secured funding for a state-of-the-art wrestling facility, signed a top ten class with three Fargo winners (two of whom wrestled in Who's #1), sat in the corner for two Final X winners for the RTC, and will lead the strongest ILLINI team in maybe ten years this upcoming season.3 points

https://taxfoundation.org/data/all/federal/latest-federal-income-tax-data-2024/ https://www.bankrate.com/investing/income-wealth-top-1-percent/ The key figures here are not only the average wealth per household but also the share held by each, especially at the top. For example, the top 1 percent of households hold 30.6 percent of the total wealth, according to the Federal Reserve. Ok, now that we have these details figured out, the top 1% have 30.6% of the wealth yet pay 45.8% of the income taxes collected. What about that isn't paying their fair share? I think you will find here that the top earners do pay their fair share and the bottom earners essentially pay nothing. Just like you said RV. Your wish has been granted. mspart2 points

The last chance qualifier takes place this Sunday and its filled with a ton of elite HS talent. Some of the names include Anthony Knox,Jax Forrest, Joe Sealey, Will Henckel, Aedon sinclair, Cole mirasola, Bo Bassett, Aden Valencia. If we fast forward 4-8 years I would not be shocked at all to see a lot of these names as national champs or potentially world team members.2 points

"Once in a lifetime catastrophic events" seem to be adhering to the same schedule as the olympics... Kids these days are getting pretty good at seeing overwrought stupidity and pointing it out as same, and they sure are a heck of a lot kinder to one another than we were growing up...2 points

I always liked the Illinois room, open space, no pillars, big windows on the south. Problem was older building that became academic space so access problematic. I trust that Poeta will not build a dungeon.2 points

If you watch his NCAA finals match (Link) midway through the second period at about 6:40 in the video the broadcast team says he was a junior college champion at Lassen Community College in CA. Not sure if he is subject to the same exception at MSU as Williams was at Iowa...2 points

You didn't *just* say you weren't convinced. You added, and actually emphasized your entire post, by saying people who were convinced only said that because they don't have a good reason. Hold up to what you actually said at least, especially if you're going to talk about "it all comes back to accountability" a few posts later. (kind of proving my point for me)2 points

Carter Starocci literally said "this is little kid stuff compared to what I want" and mentioned the Olympic Trials on April 19th and 20th and "on Monday it's back to work. And just like Drake said, there's not friends in this industry." JB then goes, man, I'll tell you what, he mentioned April 19th and 20th and I know a guy who's gonna be there and I'd love to see him, and best believe I'm going for that leg. He won't disclose the injury but man he's looked great, and on a more serious note, Carter Starocci has had a phenomenal career.... And lists all of the greats and states he has to be on the mount rushmoore of Penn State. The amount of compliments he gave him were numerous. If you think that is making it about himself, then you are way too damn sensitive.2 points
-
If anyone is mad at JB they should remember what Starocci wrote before his finals match. Not exactly the nicest words so why is it wrong when Burroughs says he's going to attack him. After all, "this game is a cut throat business."2 points

...or....when you know you don't know all the details but have a strong belief there's something bigger than me. Why is it people who talk the most about being open to other's ideas and ways, are usually among the first to shut any idea out that they don't understand?2 points

I got so excited by the broader news that I totally missed that detail about 125. That is very surprising to me! He was not a small 133. I wondered what the heck happened to him last year. I thought he had two year of eligibility remaining.1 point
-
I will guess 125- Attasauov 133- Byrd 141- Pucino 149- Webster 157- Scoles 165- Braunagel 174- Ruth 184- Connell 197- Braunagel 285- Luffman1 point
-
Well....Webster is registered for the U20 US Open at 70 kg and not 65. Just sayin'....but IL is hurtin' at 125. I tend to believe Attasauov's post that he will be 1251 point
-
Interesting Attasauov put #125 on this post.... He was 133 all 4 years at ISU...You would think he would go up. What was his story this year? He has no stats and isn't listed for 2024 in Wrestlestat.1 point

Curious how the lineup shakes out for @ILLINIWrestlingBlog and his squad. Here's a guess from me 125: Ruzic 133: Byrd 141: Attasauov 149: Pucino 157: Webster 165: MiniBraun 174: Ruth 184: Connell 197: MegaBraun 285: Luffman1 point

All of the weights are really tough. A bunch of hammers out there. No wonder there are so many using their dual citizenship. I think JB has a very good chance to win the mini tourney. I don't think he has much chance against Dake but he has been working hard, I'm sure, on figuring him out and practicing practicing and practicing. If anyone has a chance against Dake, it is JB. I think he is #2 in the weight but he might be able to do it. mspart1 point

Of the six wrestlers who could accept a semi-final berth at the OTT due to medaling at the 2023 Worlds in a non-Olympic weight, five chose to descend, and one chose to go up a weight class: Jacarra Winchester, a 2023 World silver medalist at 55 kg, has specified she will compete at 53 kg. Jennifer Page, a 2023 World bronze medalist at 59 kg, has specified she will compete at 62 kg. Macey Kilty, a 2023 World silver medalist at 65 kg, has specified she will compete at 62 kg. Vitali Arujau, a 2023 World champion at 61 kg, has specified he will compete at 57 kg. Zain Retherford, a 2023 World champion at 70 kg, has specified he will compete at 65 kg. Zahid Valencia, a 2023 World bronze medalist at 92 kg, has specified he will compete at 86 kg. https://www.themat.com/news/2024/april/01/13-accept-u-s-olympic-team-trials-finals-berths-while-six-accept-berths-in-challenge-tournament-semifinals1 point

Correct. There are concerns that he will be too small for 74 KG this go and that his more natural size (right now) is more towards 70 KG. By next Olympics I fully expect him to be our 65 KG rep. He'll then likely enter tweener zone again, but still be our guy at 65 KG. 2036 is when he might have to reverse the reverse because he'll probably be too small for 57 KG at that point.1 point

I get that Burroughs may be too old now, but lets not pretend that he couldn't of won a challenge tournament to make a team after 2011, he just didn't have to. He sent Dake and Taylor to different weight classes. These are just the list of guys in the challenge tournament which always has multiple time NCAA champs. If JB loses it will be to to father time, not because he had to go through a bracket with Jarrett Jacques in it.1 point

This is why I don’t think the portal is “the end of college wrestling.” There have also been a fair amount of guys transfer out of some of the top schools as well.1 point

Hamiti was lighting guys up as a true freshman and walked into the postseason with a 91% bonus rate and just one loss1 point
-
Unpopular opinion: Hamiti is fine and doesn't need to transfer. His wrestling has looked a lot better this year. He was destroying just about everyone and went into the postseason with only 1 loss (Carr) and an 84% bonus rate. We all expected Hamiti to AA, but he had a tough draw in arguably the toughest weight and finished with losses to the national champion (Carr x2), the runner-up (MM), and Olejnik. No shame there. I don't think Bono or the program has failed Hamiti.1 point

It happens all the time in other sports. In track and field, many of the top athletes attend US colleges and stay here to train before competing for their "home" countries at international events. Why all the attention on a narrow nationalism (jingoism and xenophobia) and countries? We live in an increasingly globalized world where nearly everything moves across fairly porous borders: ideas, animals, consumer goods, people, air, viruses, water, technology, pollution, etc. The movement of wrestlers likely increases the level of competition and pushes the sport along to higher levels. If guys from the US (or Dagestan) can make it to the Olympics or Worlds elsewhere and win medals, then it's clear that the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th best guys here, for example, are better than the top guys at a weight in Mexico or Serbia. If you are a fan of RBY or Gomez here, why not root for them when they compete for Mexico? They aren't taking a US spot.1 point
