Hey all, I zapped the first Final X thread, which went totally off the rails. If you know anything about me you know that i 1) want everyone to be able to speak their mind and 2) take impropriety very seriously. That being said, i think that discussion ran its course. i also was also uncomfortable with specific names mentioned. i felt it was the right decision. I know many of you won't agree so feel free to yell at me. but i did what i thought was right.8 points

How expensive is it to pay a couple people in Azerbaijan to stream an event with their phones? 10 years ago, Flo was doing a service for the community and $150/year was a great deal. Today, it is horribly overpriced given the content they offer and where technology has gone. The exception is if you like watching youth/HS wrestling. In that case, Flo provides an incredible wealth of content. Otherwise, $150 for WTT is pointless. Add in that a VPN, which is legal, can be purchased for much less money than a Flo subscription to watch the exact same feed that Flo is broadcasting for worlds.4 points

“ I don’t need to dip into the portal because we won’t lose guys,” Koll said. “I’m building a team, not buying a team like the Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan models.”3 points

Being very nearly the mortal enemies that we appear to be, it seems impossible... but I agree 100% with this message.3 points

Where Stanford fits into all of this is debatable, but he's dead on about other schools buying talent. And if they're going to allow college athletes to get paid like professionals, then they need salary caps like the pros have. Otherwise, teams are just going to buy their way onto the podium, the separation between the haves and have not's is going to grow, programs are going to die because of it, and the sport as a whole will suffer.2 points

Im sure its a lot harder getting recruits to Stanford then it was to "Ivy League" Cornell and their Junior College2 points

You know who else is from Cincinnati? 2x AA Lucas Byrd who wrestles at... you guessed it! University of Illinois.2 points

I lived in Cincinnati for two years as a kid and it made a wonderful impression on me. I still think of it as the perfect place for a kid to grow up. Hope you enjoy it there!2 points

i am not going to sign up for hawkeye report, but... i do not know the specific allegations and i did not ask the one party involved that i have a relationship with because it is none of my business... one point that i want out there is that several safe sport reports have been filed and USAW refuses to do anything about it at all... any sexual relationship between a coach and their athlete is specifically forbidden and that it has happened openly can not be denied... and yet USAW does nothing and makes excuses for why they will not... that is a huge problem... and speaks to the main issue of absolutely no accountability throughout the organization...2 points

The same Zain Retherford that was born in Kenosha, WI? I don't believe he is eligible for the question as posed. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zain_Retherford2 points

Big time. We recently moved to the Cincinnati area so if I had to choose a second school for him to wind up at, I'm glad its there. Easy trip up to see them wrestle for me!2 points

I assume it’s because mspart stated he secretly enjoys listening to Pyles. You’re right for deleting the thread, if that’s the case. We can’t have that smut on here.2 points

My quibble was that as well. I did point out early "hey, If I don't know who has criteria, neither do the people in here." Criteria didn't impact too many matches overall, though, so that impact was pretty minimal, except ... when it wasn't. My partner-in-crime Bryan Hazard was probably more on the spot with the challenge review process to make sure proper credit is given.2 points

Hopefully they start having the virtuous cycle where RTC results begin to pay off with college recruiting wins. If they can get the Warners, Woods, Gomezes, Cassiopis, etc. to stay home it wound pay big dividends.2 points

Lee beat Retherford and Diakomihalis in the consolation bracket at OTT in 2021.1 point
-
Aaron Brooks was in that bracket with Taylor and Nickal too. Presumably his opinion on the matter would be highly relevant. Did Nick Lee wrestle Retherford in the consolations? Even if they did wrestle I can't imagine Brooks was referring to that.1 point

Zane Richards is now 3-0 against last year's Silver and Bronze World Championship medalists. The combined match points were 22-9 in his favor. There appeared to be no problem with the cut at Final X. He beat the Iranian at the World Cup. No weight/gas issues there. Zane's in a very good place right now. The Albanian (former Russian) World Champion will be a problem, but he is almost a genetic duplicate of Richards. He could be Zane's older, uglier, slightly thicker-legged brother. So excite!1 point

The biggest events for many US wrestling fans are (1) the NCAA tournament; (2) the Big Ten tournament; (3) Final X; (4) OTTs; (5) worlds; and (6) the Olympics. But as far as I know, Flo only carries two of those events: Final X and worlds. That means that even if you have a yearly Flo subscription, you still have to make other arrangements to watch (1) the NCAA tournament; (2) the Big Ten tournament; (3) OTTs; and (4) the Olympics. And of the big events I listed, the only unique service Flo offers is broadcasting Final X. When it comes to worlds, Flo is merely taking the UWW's feed -- which is free in most countries -- and then requiring US customers to pay to watch that feed. Basically, if Flo is charging $150 per year, it is hard for me to understand how that is a good deal.1 point

Before this event they had been better with their streams. I remember a couple years ago they simply could not provide a reliable stream to a major event. Not sure how many wrestling fans were aware of this but Flo Sports had streaming deals with some MLS teams to distribute their matches. They signed a 4 year deal with DC United starting in 2019 and the very first broadcast was plagued by service interruptions that they never fully solved. Flo reportedly paid $12million for the broadcast rights and the team terminated the contract after less than a year, offered refunds to fans, and streamed the rest of their matches for free on the teams website. It would seem like the inability to stream a major event without interruption has costs Flo millions of dollars and should be something they have sorted by now. https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/dc-united-flosports-streaming-deal-ended-mls-tv-rights/?zephr_sso_ott=s0FZRU "The move brings to an end what proved to be a problematic deal for DC United. Fans of the franchise were initially unhappy at having to pay between US$5.99 and US$8.99 per month for FloSports, which was compounded when the streaming service suffered technical difficulties. DC United’s draw against New York City FC in March, for example, was marred by interruptions."1 point

If you sign up with Flo Wrestling they monthly option sucks - $30/month or $150/year. If you sign up with another Flo "parallel" you can get a much more reasonable price $12.50 billed monthly or $8/month billed yearly and you have access to all parallels.1 point

Kudos to Chance for busting it up with JB. Kudos to JB for the last decade of stellar wrestling. Good luck to Chance in Belgrade. mspart1 point

Biggest complaint is they simply refuse to listen to the customer. If they had done so early on they would not still have the same issues today. I signed up because they were covering certain college teams and duals you couldn't get elsewhere. Espn+ is now a much better option for video & duals maybe not for brackets and results. Is it worth the price? Probably especially if interested in high school &/or international, but they make it so difficult to sort thru all their info if you are interested in a particular style. They purchased track and it is worse making the combination even harder if you have to filter thru both. I will be letting my subscription expire next fall. If they had a 3 month or true monthly option, might sign up during international season but as said before, they don't listen to the customer.1 point

They showed three different angles in the arena where it was obvious. The last of the three was the best and the singlet was extended 6 to 8 inches away from Burroughs' leg. But, people have a hard time abandoning their hot take once they commit to it.1 point

One solution, just don't go if you don't like the mask protocol. Seems like an easier solution than throwing a tantrum on Fox News.1 point

Or....you want it to not be true so bad you refuse to look up anything for yourself and then try and say I made this up and that I am easily swayed by Fox News...thanks for giving another example of how you can't make this up with such a ridiculous response. Absolutely adore...able! World reacts as Joe Biden makes unvaccinated athletes wear masks (msn.com)1 point

Brooks has no idea what he's talking about-it's sad to see such ignorance on display. Everybody knows God prefers overhooks. No false prophet, no underhooks. Also something that I've been wondering-we already saw from Tebow that God is a huge football fan in the fall (and not a fan of the forward pass). It's clear from so many wrestlers that his winter sport is wrestling..What sport does he watch in the Spring?1 point
