  2. Hey everyone, good to see you all here. I'm really glad Bob was able to make this happen. Istanbul is a neat place to visit. I've been there for 6 weeks and here is what i would recommend. 1. Hagia Sofia - this is a catholic basilica turned islamic mosque, turned museum. The Moslems only covered the artwork from the Christian era and those are pretty cool to see. Built in 900 AD or so, it is ginormously huge and cavernous and I think it is a marvel of architecture and building know how for those days. I went twice because it was so AWESOME. 2. The Cistern - This dates back to Roman times BC and has interesting history and a nice surprise at the end of the cavern. Very much worth seeing. 3. The Grand Bazzaar - This place is also huge and you could get lost in there for days. Plan a good 3-5 hours to see everything if you want to shop for stuff. Normal folks go there to buy stuff so it is a local market as well as an international attraction. 4. The Bosphorus - Take a boat ride up the Bospherus to the Black Sea. As you head up it, Europe is on your left, Asia on your right. They usually stop at a tourist trap where you can eat before taking the boat back to Istanbul. I met a couple from Barcelona on that boat and was able to communicate in Spanish with them. At the time I was pretty good with my Spanish. 5. The Blue Mosque - Not near as monstrous at Hagia Sofia but interesting with all the tile work. 6. Simmit - This is a bread that all the street venders sell. It is like a long stick. Very good. Buy it and try it. 7. Doner - This is the Gyro of Turkey and it is very good, highly recommend it. 8. The Topkapi Palace - I almost forgot this. Nice to visit if you are there. I liked it but it was not a highlight. Harem history and all kinds of gnarly war weapons. When you drive around and see old walls, those are from before Roman times. Istanbul is an old old city with lots of history. Istanbul would be an outstanding place to have the WCs and be sure to spend time before or after to visit the sights. mspart

  5. I think Whiting should red-shirt. His defense is super solid, great positioning, but his offense needs to be improved and would benefit a great deal from red-shirting. I also wondered about Hawks. Didn’t see Surtin either. Edmonds was on the side for a bit but didn’t wrestle. I’m guessing Edmonds also red-shirts and then next year comes back at 141 after Hart is done. Edmond did an admirable job filling in at 149 last year but I think he was undersized for the weight. See how Conner does at 133 this year. Guess he had his knee tweaked a bit against Seltzer and looked a little apprehensive with it but won handily and did his sprint off the mat to the tunnel. Most impressed with Pulliam but I don’t know where he is going to fit. Looked like Mauller was just going through the motions with Pulliam. Wish Jacques would use that offense and pace every match this year. O’Toole is just on a different level from everyone. He is going to do special things. Hell he won AA’s last year going through a gauntlet with damn near a broken ankle from second round on, can’t imagine what a healthy O’Toole does this year but I am going to have funny watching and finding out. M-I-Z.

  7. So back (right before we brought The Mat Forum down the first time) one Jimmy the Gent somehow figured out when ever he posted the word "Magistrate" the thread would lock! How, I have no idea, but he was not afraid to use it.

  9. I know this isn't happening, it's purely hypothetical. In this hypothetical scenario it's Treigning Lab Taylor, not biscuits n' gravy Davey. He has the frame to handle the extra weight but would need hormonal assistance for it to be lean mass.

  20. Pretty sure that the school actually puts the student-athlete in the portal. They’re given 48 hours grace from when the SA notifies them that they wish to enter the portal until they’re actually put in.

  25. Lehigh vs Oregon State dual this weekend. Should see some close matches as many of the matches feature closely ranked wrestlers. The match I am looking forward to seeing is Beard vs Harvey. Harvey is coming off of a knee injury but he looked very solid in his major decision over Reyes. It will be a good gauge for where he is in his return to the mat.

  26. Surtin was there - but in the stands with friends. Edmond had something done back in April. Which was timed with him redshirting this year. Hawks had a clean up on his knee in September, but has been back wrestling live for a few weeks now.

  34. Seems like you are projecting your own personality that is low key, humble, and straight edge. You have to remember, not all people are like that. That being said, a wrestler might be trying to build his own brand, but as a coach, you are building your own brand for your team as well.

  37. There have been 30 wrestlers to win 3 out of 4. None lost the chance at four titles their senior year. Three did lose their attempt for four in their junior year. The aforementioned Dick Hutton was first, followed by Ed Banach, and Lincoln McIlravy. They each lost in the final their junior year to go 1, 1, 2, 1.

  38. TBF, pretty much everyone in wrestling called him Marty. I made a point to put his full first name when I had him in interviews at the training center and he’s in my phone as Kamarudeen, but it’s hard for a lot of us who met and knew him as such to not catch ourselves calling him Marty. I don’t mean any disrespect by it but it’s sometimes hard to not do it when I covered him in college and when he was at the OTC.
