  1. Since we appear to have hit a wall, I will post the "final" results. Some Accounting Turns out I am a bad accountant. I miscounted. There are only 49 entries. But I will let you keep the cash prize @Ragu for the 50th entry. Here is what I have for each of the 49 entries. If anyone feels their entry is in error, please let me know. There are 40 Intermat entries (an all time high), and 6 HVI and 1 HR (both all time lows), to go along with one from Twitter, and Willie's prediction. Wisdom Of The Crowds If you believe in that sort of stuff, the final score prediction is...... Spread 'Em On HVI I saw someone say they saw a betting line of Iowa +21.5. With our WOTC Predicted spread of 17.5, maybe it is time to take Iowa and the points (not gambling advice). The distribution of differences looks like this: Who You Calling a Lier? Nobody. I said outlier. Settle down. As you can see there are a few outliers in the stack. @Mr. PeanutButter wins the Hawkeyed Cockeyed Optimist Award for greatest Iowa fan. But he is a singular bird of that feather. I am frankly shocked and disappointed at the practicality of the rest of Hawkeye nation. Two thirds of PBJ sees Iowa taking 6 of 10. Nobody else could talk themselves into even 5 wins for Brands' Boys. For goodness sake, even the greatest four three time champ in Hawk History (@Spencerlee) has the Nittany Lyings Lions winning by 14. For shame. On the flip side, who woulda thunk it? We have a Wolverine in Lions' clothing. At 37-0, @nhs67 exposes the lie. He can claim to be a Michigan fan all he wants. We know better. Only baccafarmer (HVI, no duh), Kale_yeah (guess where), @Pish (who hides as psih69 on HVI), and your faithful author could also see PSU hitting the triple decade. What Abouts The Bouts? But enough about us. What about the wrestlers? Glad you asked. Kerkvliet, Haines, and Bartlett are the only unanimous choices. Iowa is favored in 3 matches with Ayala the biggest favorite, followed by Buchanon and Teemer. Teemer v Kasak appears to be the most interesting match of the night at a near 50/50 split. But I feel like Buchanon v Barr should be given the 22 points in 1:19 onslaught we witnessed last week. But come on. Don't be stupid. It has to be the match that will end with a beheading, right? Two bold statements have been made. The first one turned out to be silly. But now we get a chance to see one of them actually backed up. Or sorta backed up. I do not expect an actual beheading. He Shoots. He Scores. From a scoring perspective things move around a bit. While Mikey Caliendo got one vote of confidence (we see you @RawDog) the expectation is that Mesenbrink will do more damage than a Lion in an aviary. And in a shocker, Beau "One Shot, Everyone Knows The Rules" Bartlett is the collective second favorite to take a second shot. Or maybe you guys just like him for the back points (aka near pinfall points)? At the other end of the spectrum is the one, if we are really being honest, we are tuning in to see. Two Brands. Two Team Point Deductions. Too bad Vegas doesn't offer a prop bet. I have told the wife every night this week what I am planning to do on Friday night. Come join me. I think I will crack open some spirits for the big event. But if clean living is your thing, then God Bless.

  9. Or, and hear me out, we should get Citizens United overturned and we shouldn't allow lobbyists to even be a thing, nor allow corporate donations into politics, and limit the amount of money that can be invested into political campaigns, and mandate that all donations are public record.... Basically we should minimize the impact of money on politics.

  17. Cruz is a tough kid, but Lilledahl is going to throttle him. Luke will be wrestling with a chip on his shoulder after the Rutgers dual, and he'll be at home at his first Nit-Hawk (uh). And Cruz is more likely to push the action rather than wrestle a chess match, which will translate into a bunch of points of Lilledahl. I can't really see Terry coaching Cruz into suddenly being more selective with his attacks.

  20. Incredible is one word. Gross is another, even though it's legal. It's legal, but I'm not ok with this much money overwhelming politics. Not meant for you, but the problem, of course, is he's not asking any question of Duesburg at all. He's just regurgitating the ideas and then not openly advocating for the ideas to hide behind plausible deniability. Just like he did with the American Samoa situation.

  26. There are a lot of matchups that COULD be competitive, but Ohio State is definitely the heavy favorite. 125 McCrone should be heavily favored over either of the Tanefeu twins. Kilkeary, while I think a better wrestler, just hasn't put it together this year to earn the spot (even losing to McCrone. McCrone has much better mat wrestling at this point in their careers, and that means more potential bonus points. I think McCrone pulls a Tech, here. tOSU 5, UofM 0 133 Bouzakis should business done here rather easily. In fact, if there were a weekend to give him rest from the cut, it might be this weekend. I believe Kilkeary would be able to handle Wertanen easily enough. I am going to say Tech here as well. tOSU 10, UofM 0 141 I know a lot of folks, myself included, have wanted to see Lemley-Mendez because of their styles of wrestling, but Mendez isn't just 'good' he is the best at this weight at doing what he does. This is in Ann Arbor, but Mendez is just too good to not do what he does to Lemley. Now, I know Lemley has been wrestling more defensive here, and styles do make matchups, but Mendez Majored Lehigh's Stanich 14-3 after Lemley lost to him in rideouts 3-2. There are levels to this and there are at least a couple in between these two. Mendez Tech. tOSU 15, UofM 0 149 Gilcher has a wide open style, so when he loses big, it tends to be him opening up and the other wrestle capitalizing on it. That is what D'Emilio did earlier this year at the Clarion Open. Gilcher absolutely could keep it close, but D'Emilio's mat wrestling and discipline will likely earn him another Major. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gavin Brown here, or someone else to give D'Emilio the weekend off, as well. If Gavin Brown, it's a toss-up. If Catrabone, he beats Brown via Pin, but loses to D'Emilio in the same manner. Major or Tech. tOSU 19, UofM 0 157 I want Sasso to win it all... to place highly would also be a moral victory. I think we see either Herman or Cannon and I think Saldate wins a hard fought Decision. I also think Saldate wins a Decision over Sasso right now. tOSU 19, UofM 3 INTERMISSION 165 I think Mantanona will have trouble with Gallagher's grit, but I think he'll open it up with a couple of slick takedowns and win the takedown battle 2-1 or 3-1. A solid win that is closer than the score might appear, and I think this match might be quite a bit different come B1Gs once both of these two settle in at the weights better. tOSU 19, UofM 6 174 If it's Kharchla and Walker, I don't see this being close. Kharchla will be pushing for a Major here and should be able to control where the match takes place. I would love to see the younger Mantanona get the nod here and use his 5th appearance, just so we can see how he might do against an elite 174lber - even if extremely undersized. Kharchla is right in that next tier of contenders and should place high this year. tOSU Major if Walker or Mantanona. tOSU 23, UofM 6 184 While I think Bullock might be a bit off right now, I still think he's the better wrestler against Rogotzke and is well capable of winning this via Decision. I am going to give it to Bullock in the home match via Decision. tOSU 23, UofM 9 197 I think Cardenas pulls out bonus here. It's either Major or Tech against Shumate. He's just to big, fast, and strong and it's a poor matchup for a Shumate who isn't a full-sized 197lber. tOSU 23, UofM 14 285 Another match where the coaching staff could give their #1 guy the night off. A Swenski-Heindselman match would likely be a snooze fest. Heindselman beat him 15-3 last time, but Swenski likely keeps it close this time. I think a Heindselman-Feldman match is a true toss-up, and the only one of the dual. It went 8-5 at NCAAs last year in OT and I could see it going the same again. That said, Heinsdelman via Decision over Swenski. tOSU 23, UofM 17 FINAL

  29. You would know better than me, but I thought the talk was that he would have ideally been at 133 his first two years but couldn't because of Fix? He looks like a solid 149 this year to me, it's just a lack of consistent offense.

  30. Yes. All you have to do is look at him to see that a year of maturing will be hugely beneficial. I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't even had to shave yet. Missouri is having a completely injury plagued season and adding him to the lineup might add a few points in March, but it's not like they are relatively close to being in the trophy race.

Rattle that in your brain for a few minutes. His intent was obviously not to do a nazi salute since he is not a nazi, by your own admission. mspart

  36. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroshi_Wajima Hiroshi Wajima (The Great Wajima)... he was the sport's 54th and remains the only wrestler with a collegiate background to reach that rank. Though, I suspect we're talking sumo and not international style (FS/GR.) Saw him on TV when the tournaments(basho) were on, when I was stationed @ MCAS Futenma in '78/'79. Stars & Stripes would show the daily results. He was one of my favorites. D3

  37. Your chart is misleading. Here is another chart for you: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0jp4xqx2z3o They had similar apprehension numbers according to your chart but vastly differing amounts of incoming with Biden way higher, 2 and 3 times higher. You can imagine it was easy for Biden to get his numbers as the amount he let in vastly outweighed those he caught. You might try to show the total picture rather than trying to cherry pick to your advantage. mspart

  39. I've never thought about any connection, but I would bet that you are right. In America, football steals many top athletes on the portly side. In Japan, they have schoolboy nationwide Sumo tournaments and championships. Being a university grand champion is very prestigious. They have their own throwing-type folkstyle in Mongolia. Yes, I think that there is at least some loss to Sumo.

  43. https://glaad.org/gap/robert-f-kennedy-jr/ "Repeatedly promoted the falsehood that HIV is not the cause of AIDS, instead attributing the condition to other factors such as recreational drug use, particularly amyl nitrite (“poppers”), and lifestyle stressors. This is AIDS denialism, a fringe belief that has been thoroughly debunked by the scientific community. In fact, the connection between HIV and AIDS is well-established science. In 2008, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier for their discovery of HIV as the cause of AIDS. HIV causes AIDS. The scientific consensus, supported by numerous studies and the success of antiretroviral treatments in managing HIV and preventing AIDS, firmly establishes HIV as the cause of AIDS." Good article on it: https://www.bugeyedandshameless.com/p/joe-rogan-and-robert-f-kennedy-jr From his book on Fauci: "The HIV virus…was a kind of free rider that was also associated with overlapping lifestyle exposures. Duesberg and many who have followed him offered evidence that heavy recreational drug use in gay men and drug addicts was the real cause of immune deficiency among the first generation of AIDS sufferers. They argued that the initial signals of AIDS, Kaposi’s sarcoma and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP), were both strongly linked to amyl nitrite — “poppers” — a popular drug among promiscuous gays. Other common “wasting” symptoms were all associated with heavy drug use and lifestyle stressors." In the same book, he praises Christine Maggiore as a hero. She was an HIV/AIDS denialist who encouraged women not to take HIV treatment like herself. As a result, she passed the virus to her daughter, who died at 3 years old. She later died of one of the most common AIDS related illnesses. 15 years later, RFK somehow still thinks she was right. For the measles outbreak, it was Samoa, not Guam (see you can realize you're wrong and admit it!) https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/rfk-jr-appears-before-congress-as-his-comments-spreading-misinformation-draw-scrutiny “In Samoa, there were two children that died immediately following receipt of a measles vaccine… Now, very quickly, within two weeks, it was realized what that mistake was. It was a nursing error. But, nonetheless, RFK Jr. seized on that. He flooded Facebook with information that the measles vaccine is killing children in Samoa. He went to Samoa. He met with anti-vaccine activists. He met with senior officials in Samoa and kept the drumbeat alive that the measles vaccine was killing children in Samoa. As a consequence, vaccination rates fell from 70 percent to 30 percent. And between September and December of 2019, there was a massive measles epidemic. In this island nation of 200,000 people, there were 57,000 cases of measles and 83 deaths. Most of those deaths were in children less than four years of age. And Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had everything to do with that. And that shows you how disinformation can kill.”
