  1. Iowa just keeps grinding higher. Credit Kyle Parco's move from $4 to #3 this week and Joey Cruz's return to the rankings. Next stop Penn State (not shown but expected points = 139.6) Oklahoma State took a breather this week. While Reece Witcraft, Carter Young, and Caleb Fish saw incremental rankings gains, Troy Spratley dropped from #2 to #4, more than offsetting the gains at 133, 149, and 157. The race for the final podium position remains tight. Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Northern Iowa are within 14.8 points of each other. Even Cornell and Illinois have a punchers chance.

  12. At the risk of speaking for someone else, I think what he means is that people respond to incentives/punishments. If you make a reversal worth 3 instead of 2 then the punishment to the top wrestler is greater. That will incentivize the top wrestler to cut, instead of ride, to avoid giving up the extra point (3-2) if the reversal occurs. With the right data, I think this is testable. In theory you could compare riding time and riding time points from when takedowns and reversals were both worth two to now, when there is a one point difference, and infer whether behavior from top wrestlers has changed.

  14. Why does the report leave out what Trump was responding to? That is the well-funded cabal of powerful people that collaborated across industries to influence perceptions, change voting laws, and steer media coverage "in the shadows". When Trump was winning on the first day of the 2020 election, does it mention that both the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (business) and AFL-CIO (labor) issued a joint statement for the public to have patience in vote counting and trust in the electoral process? Does it mention that its currently impossible to certify the presidential elections to be free of fraud? Does it mention that there are still legal challenges unresolved from the 2020 election? When many court cases are dismissed on procedural issues, where the underlying case is serious and everyday real people under oath give witness to observed fraud, how can the public trust the courts? The white house could use a good cleansing.

  15. I see it as good and bad. Monetary it’s great for the athletes. However the downside is what’s happening. One team buys up all the “free agents” like the Yankees. To stay competitive is the key, but the downside is the inability to mold, train and develop your own recruits.

  18. He's literally not doing that. He actually put real pressure on them to accept a deal, which is why this is happening. Here's a Netanyahu surrogate complaining that the Trump admin won't let them continue to commit war crimes and prevent aid. I'm still skeptical long-term, but Trump has already done far more to end this atrocity than Biden did in 2 years. Put Biden in the Hague.

  21. DOJ never adjudicated an Insurrection case as a result of Jan 6. It hasn't happened. But Jack Smith repeatedly calls Jan 6 an insurrection. He even says he will not prosecute on insurrection, yet refers to that throughout the report. Right there you have a person that is on a witch hunt. This guy is supposed to represent the DOJ. The DOJ did not prosecute anyone for insurrection. He wasn't going to do so. But he repeatedly called it an insurrection. How in the world do you portray this as an insurrection yet don't prosecute that. As opposed to my use of a link to show problems with the report, this is something I noticed. mspart

  25. Cam has wrestled 12 matches this year. 8 of those matches according to flow were against ranked opponents. His highest career bonus rate outside of his red shirt year was during his sophomore season at 23.81% he had a 76% win rate that season. This year he has a 75% win rate and 25% bonus rate with 65% of his matches coming against ranked wrestlers. some guys have a low output defensive style even contrary to their coaching staff. People talk about how Bartlett is boring but not their being an actual problem with his wrestling because he rarely ever loses. Cam simply is not quite as good as beau, hes a great wrestler but this is who he is. Statistically when you account for SOS he's probably having his best year to date, its hard to change a guys style when hes been wrestling that way for lets say at least his 5 years of college and probably in competitive matches in high school in 6 months. I think there is a lot being made out of nothing when you really look into it.

  26. All for rewarding dominance and scoring more points. I like an extra point for a period ride out. If bottom is the easiest way to get a point, shouldn't guys pay the price if they can't get out. isn't a period ride out the hardest act of dominance with no reward. I think this just leads to the bottom guy working harder to not give up the extra points.

  28. I saw a guy get a reversal a couple days ago and thought the same thing myself. If takedowns are going to be 3 points, so should reversals. Also, and most of you guys will hate this, I think a point should be awarded for every minute of riding time, with the proviso that the top man is trying for turns.

  32. I want to start by clarifying that I don't have a hard stance as I see an argument for both. I do lean towards keeping it at two points though, but I wouldn't have any strong feelings if it went to 3. This is the thing with the bottom position, you either were put into the bottom position by being taken down, or you chose to be in the bottom position. If you are in the bottom position from being taken down, you are given the opportunity to score points from a defensive position (ie: you cannot score an escape without being taken down). Likewise, with reversals, you cannot score a reversal unless you are in a defensive position. If I take you down, and you reverse me, you were only capable of scoring a reversal because I took you down in the first place. Why should you get the same amount of points as me for reversing me out of the position I put you in? If I didn't take you down, you wouldn't have had the opportunity to score from bottom. This is where it is obviously subjective in what you think should be most heavily rewarded. I think that gaining control from a neutral position should be rewarded more heavily than being able to reverse the position you were forced into after being taken down. Additionally, if you choose bottom, you are choosing bottom knowing that your scoring possibilities are either one point for an escape or two points for a reversal. You can choose neutral with the opportunity to score 3 points, so why does anyone choose bottom? It is because the bottom wrestler believes they are more likely to accumulate more points starting the period in the bottom position than in neutral. I am of the camp that believes scoring a takedown should be most heavily rewarded, and that a reversal, which is only possible to earn by being taken down, or putting yourself in the bottom position should not be equally rewarded. I also understand the argument for emphasizing mat wrestling where being sloppy on top and getting reversed should be more penalized. If you're afraid of getting reversed, cut them instantly and don't play around in the position. I just believe in the current era of college wrestling with the leg passes, far ankle scrambles, Churella positions, etc. It is so hard to get in on someone and score without it being stalemated, that securing a takedown should be rewarded with more points than reversing a position that you were forced into/chose to be in. Anyway, I know that was long, but I hope I was able to make the argument against a 3 point reversal understood.

  33. The chimp is so lethal it doesn't need a strategy. It would outstrike Bo's Box-ercise and would not be afraid to go to the ground. I still have an Orangutan over a chimp. Bigger, longer reach, stronger. The negative would be not as prone to extreme violence.

  34. I think some/most schools still provide a pdf version of Match Notes for each match. They usually include the data and state from the previous matches for the year and historical info for their wrestlers. If you take the time to read both teams' match notes before the match, you should have a decent grasp. If a school is wrestling both Friday & Sunday they will just combine them. PSU match notes vs MSU MSU match notes vs PSU & Maryland

  40. I don’t think for a second it’s Maple in any fashion. I’d be willing to bet money that if you polled the wrestlers in the room, they will all agree Maple is a huge part of whatever success the have, KOT specifically continues to mention him in interviews about what he’s done for him. I do know for a fact the reason we have gotten a couple of these higher rated recruits is Maple specifically. He’s turned into a great recruiter in his tenure. He may have input, but he doesn’t run the program, that’s what Smith does and he’s done a great job thus far. If I had one bad thing to say about Smith and it’s not even bad, is he’s loyal to his style and his guys. But that’s what makes him successful. We’ve obviously changed the schedule, judgement is still out on if it’s working or not, but to me it’s not. Long breaks between matches/tournaments isn’t keeping us sharp, we are flat and out of shape, Stanford match was the worst I’ve seen us in a long time. We don’t do the big tournaments over Xmas or any that I recall the last 2-3 years. Luckily our dual meet schedule has been pretty tough. As far as the recent injury bug, that’s the million dollar question. Why and how is it happening. I understand they are apart of sports, but this many in one place is crazy. Is it a wrestling room problem, strength and conditioning problem, personal injuries doing work outside on their own? Can’t perform in March if we are hurt before the whistles are blown to start the match. Can we bring Waters back? We need a light weight coach that is still competing to help Maple drill and work with these guys.

  42. We (wrestling fans) find a way to complain about it. Every year. Watch the events. All. Tape them all. Help get the ratings up. Give them a reason to make it a better product.

  43. Garner enough ratings to where multiple platforms are airing wrestling simultaneously and the highest viewership aligns with the best broadcasting team. Until then, they can trot whoever they want out there and we can be satisfied that we at least have video coverage. Ratings and money drive the product, and wrestling doesn't provide much in those regards.

  44. With a strong CKLV, Oklahoma State benefited the most in the Intermat rankings (and to some degree in Flo). They closed the gap to Iowa from 23 points last week to just 5 points this week. And Iowa still is awaiting Jacori Teemer's return, so their point total comes with a question mark (though Terry Brands says there has been divine intervention in his recovery).
