  1. Let the countdown begin. We are 10 long days from the start of the wrestling season. November 1 kicks off with 11 duals per wrestlestat: Chattanooga - Virginia Tech Campbell - Wyoming North Dakota State - Virginia Utah Valley - Stanford Indiana - Cal Baptist CSU Bakersfield - Stanford Ohio - Wisconsin Purdue - Gardner-Webb Seton Hill - Edinboro CSU Bakersfield - Utah Valley Pitt-Bradford - Edinboro Dual What is at stake this season? Sadly, for the first time since 2019 there are no returning wrestlers working on becoming four-timers (I am not counting Ferrari until the NCAA confirms he received an Oly RS). But there is one wrestler working on becoming a five-timer. He is a little know wrestler who goes by Carter Starocci. PSU returns what I believe to be a record number of points from the prior tournament at 130. But having lost 42.5 points across 3 weights, getting to 173 is still in doubt. Cael Sanderson has a shot to tie or beat the all-time record for individual champions. At 40 he stands just 5 behind Dan Gable's 45. (shout out @fishbane) In other news, NC State is looking to win their seventh straight ACC title. Appalachian State goes for its third straight SoCon title. What else am I missing?

  2. I'm super excited to see how much more improved Troy Spratley is this year. I know he fell short of All American status at Nationals last year but I can't help but think he's going to surprise a lot of people this year. With workout partners like Fix, Gilman and RBY in the room pounding on him everyday, once he steps on the mat with other opponents we will see his transformation from last year. He major decisioned National champ Fig at their duel last year and he will get him again early this year when they duel November 24th. A match to watch!!! So pumped!! Let's Goooooooo!

  3. The 2012 win at Carver Hawkeye was significant. It snapped Iowa's 84 match unbeaten streak, which is tied for the longest in NCAA history with OSU. OSU went undefeated over 84 matches from 1959-1966 under Myron Roderick. During Iowa's unbeaten streak from 2008-2012 OSU was the team that prevented them from claiming several NCAA records. OSU broke Iowa's previous streak beating them on 1/5/2008. Then Iowa won 69 straight matches. This is the longest winning streak by a single head coach in D1. Brands is tied with two OSU coaches. OSU won 69 straight under Ed Gallagher from 1921-1932 and Smith duplicated the feat between 1996-1999. Iowa's 70th match match was against OSU in Stillwater and ended in a 15-15 tie. This kept Brands level with Smith and Gallagher and also prevented Iowa a chance at the overall win streak record of 76 (OSU 1937-1951). It was only OSU's win 1/5/2008, tie 1/16/2011, and win 1/7/2022 that kept OSU in first in these streaks. PSU is currently in the throes of a winning streak that dates back to 2020. In total it is 56 matches, which is 4 shy of the PSU record. That record was set between 2015 and 2019. If PSU wins all 15 matches they have scheduled this season that will be 5 straight undefeated seasons and break the record for the longest PSU win streak (60), longest win streak by a coach in D1 (69 Brands, Smith, Gallagher) and have PSU with the second longest winning streak by a team in NCAA history at 71 straight wins. Should that happen going into next season PSU will be within striking distance of the longest winning streak by a team (76 OSU) and longest unbeaten streak (84 OSU & Iowa). Since 2/15/2015 PSU is 122-2 with loses to ASU and Iowa in the 2019-2020 season. Both of those were road matches. PSU has not lost at home since Iowa 2/8/2015. That match was in the Bryce Jordan Center. PSU has not lost in Rec Hall since Minnesota 1/25/2015.

  4. #13 Mizzou has a dual schedule of (Intermat Dual Rankings) non-conference - #1 Penn State, #6 Virginia Tech, #11 Cornell, #12 Illinois, #15 Stanford, #16 Little Rock Conference - #5 Oklahoma State, #8 Iowa State, #10 Northern Iowa, #19 Oklahoma, #20 West Virginia, #22 Arizona State. That is 12 of the top 25 teams. Their Tournament schedule (They don't go to Vegas, Salute, Midlands or Schuffle) Tiger Style - #16 Little Rock, #27 Maryland, #29 Purdue, Cal Poly, SIU-Edwardsville Cougar Clash - #9 Minnesota, #12 Illinois, #16 Little Rock, Northern Colorado, Northern Illinois, SIU-Edwardsville. So their dual schedule is super strong. Tournament is decently tough without going to one of the biggies.

  5. Good grief he's held the title/office for 3 yr 9.5 mo. If you weren't worried about that why worry about Trump, he might have issues but no signs of dementia.

  6. There is definitely a strong case for not wanting to implement climate-related changes. It's a global community and cutting down our own emissions has a limited benefit when countries like China and India don't follow suite. However, there is still zero doubt whatsoever that humans are responsible for the vast majority or all of the climate change we're seeing. Trying to deny this is an outright lie. Two separate issues here.

  7. Kamala for the 1000th time goes into the democracy is a duality schpiel. Does she not know that everyone has heard what she is saying and this sounds so stupid that she thinks she is lecturing everyone on a new and unique idea. She is hapless for sure. mspart

  12. I don't know now. Here is what I know. Kyson is NOT going to get beat to Frost at 133, when that happens, he has been told he is going back down. So what does that mean? Would they RS both meza and Osmany, even if they beat Kyson? Kyson has been so up and down, I think they will want to look at other options, but that is just my opinion. Swiderski possibly going to 141 tells me Dresser is going to fill that line up to win. ( I know, Captain Obvious). One side says they will RS Osmany, but then I think, they are so loaded at 125/133 and they are young, then you have CC coming in next year, they might wrestle him. I rambling to say, I don't know crap. If I hear, I will pass along. One thing to note: Gaitan is not a lock at 165, Euton has been looking really good. Also, Ech has never looked better, if he stays healthy, he is going to be a force. Another Note: The wrestlers love Chris Perry up there, I can see now why he is such a great recruiter.

  13. People do vote for who they want in office, or at least, who they think they want in office. Term limits would have a very superficial impact on our government, new guys acting hastily are going to be just as easy to corrupt. George Soros has found a fairly successful method of influencing our society. The politicization of law enforcement in this country is the danger most likely to lead to our downfall. If laws only apply to some people then taxes will too. And responsibility for doing the work. Eventually, as many as can, find a slot in the preferred bunch and there’s no one, or not enough, left to treat the water, generate the power, or drive the trucks and tractors. No one to defend the country. It’s history. It’s human nature. And there are those who would place their posterity in that predicament by sloughing off their vote based on such shallow reasons as melanin, genitalia, or the incredible evil of killing the unborn.

  16. the way jones coaches has a ceiling. for the most part they recruit athletic guys, and turn them into snakey type guys with overtie shrugs and shots from space that they are way too patient with. I assume the philosophy is something like "we should be coaching at the same tactical level as a world title match", but that means you think of every match as a chess match, limiting action and therefore development, and neglecting the physicality which is more inherent to folk than free.

  19. i agree. however, dems will NEVER vote for any party but theirs. (it doesn't matter that it's trump this time, remember how romney the milquetoast was treated?) don't tell me GOP won't. I voted obama. i wrote my name in the first time Trump ran. and I voted clinton once too. i also voted for ben nelson, a democratic senator from nebraska

  21. Dr. Ben Michaelis, a clinical psychologist who has previously carried out cognitive assessments for the New York Supreme Court, stated that Trump is “really not in a strong cognitive place,” while Allen Frances, professor and the chair emeritus of psychiatry at the Duke School of Medicine, said it “seems likely” that Trump “has deteriorated a great deal.” Ouch

  31. I hate to be a downer, but with what's happening at Campbell, after the recent NCAA changes, for me, there is a concern of program retention for many of the smaller schools. Here's to hoping we can minimize those losses if they are coming.

  34. There is no doubt it is a version of what is good for thee is not for me. It is ridiculous that while there is a law banning Congressional trading on material non-public information, it is never enforced. Hell, if you enforced this law you might not need term limits.

  41. Howard is no longer on Penn State's roster. I'm not sure if he's done wrestling all together or just decided to move on from Penn State. Lilledahl is expected to start 125 for them as a true freshman. Davis expected to go 133. Nagao is on medical redshirt. Kasak is expected to start at 157. Haines can't make that weight any longer.

  43. What is the purpose of committing to a college or university if you can easily sign with someone else? It sounds to me like committing is not the final decision, signing is. If committing actually meant something, then going after such a person would be unethical in my opinion. Also unethical is committing and then backing out in my opinion. But since it does happen and is fairly common, everyone is still in play. mspart
