On the other hand, you have Trump. I think his 4 years treated us well except for all the vitriol that was pushed his way and all of the foot in mouth moments that Trump self inflicted upon himself. So Trump's years were tumultuous from a news vision, but the years were calm as far as how his policies affected the economy and electorate. Keep in mind that Trump, that racist, was the first president to provide multi year funding to historic black colleges. They had to come to the president every year before that. He stopped that because it was not an effective use of time. That was one policy that made sense to me. I'm not sure I can think of a policy that was bad for the country. So that's what Trump brings - Good policy bad optics. This is preferable to bad policy and not good optics in my opinion. But just to be clear, I was hoping DeSantis would be the GOP pick. But that is not to be. mspart3 points

I was incredulous that the courts would not even consider the evidence and dismissed cases based on lack of standing. Justice was not done. The justice department(s) (local, state, and federal) avoided having to even hear if they had to administer justice. There is no wonder in my mind how many of the institutions of our country (academia, media, courts, law enforcement, government agencies, healthcare, corporate boards, etc.) are finding themselves in a state of cratering public trust. When the courts use contortions to claim that American citizens have no standing to have evidence examined in a case about the election of the American presidency they have worked hard to earn and rightly deserve our disdain.3 points

After listening to many of his post match and now formal interviews/sermons I hypothesize critical reasoning isn't part of his brain structure so I'm predicting it's answer a) he doesn't know how this all works2 points

Biden can't carry a thought logical or otherwise. Trump on the other hand has about 80,000 people in NJ last week that disagree with you. And Trump proved he can run the country all while being attacked non-stop from the day he got into office.2 points

Also keep in mind Brooks releases YouTube videos where he shoves a camera in his own face. I don’t think most people have too much issue with him sharing his beliefs and what he thinks makes him successful (at least in this interview he said something about “being prepared” and not just Jesus), it’s really just when he puts down others (like DT or the 2 billion Muslims in the world) for not sharing his beliefs when he gets most of the criticism2 points

He forfeited to Israel because that is what Iran does. Cool bet. Please be gentle with me if you win. I am open to it being Sig or Pic, to be clear - you choose when (if? ) it happens). The bet is now clear, but to clarify for others... Azarpira wins Gold - You win and choose either my Sig or my Pic. Azarpira does not win a medal - I win and choose your Sig.2 points

i feel like the PSU shills don't really know what to say. Still trying to repair their idea of the PSU wrestling room as 40 guys in a bouncy castle.2 points

Maybe I missed it but I haven't heard much talk about Spencer Lee potentially squaring off against Roman Bravo-Young at the Olympics this summer. Who do you got? And, who are you rooting for? Thinking back to two years ago, there was a lot of talk about possibly Lee bumping up (or RBY dropping down) for the epic 2xer v 3xer matchup. No one really thought it would happen and it didn't, but it was still a bummer. RBY later talked about it in an interview, and we all figured we'd have to wait for WTTs or OTTs. Well, that didn't happen either when RBY went to represent Mexico, but... whaddaya know, both guys qualified at 57kg (along with Micic/Cruz). Granted, it feels a little anti-climactic after both guys' NCAA careers ended on a down note, but... who's your pick? I'm thinking RBY is better on his feet, but I still favor Spencer since I suspect he's the slightly better freestyler overall. He only needs one TD to lace RBY to a tech. And who are the PSU faithful rooting for? Anyone going to find it hard to root for an Iowa guy over a PSU guy? Or does country loyalty trump all? I've never been an Iowa fan but being a PA guy I've always had an easy time rooting for Spencer, and I always get so totally consumed rooting for the red white and blue in Olympic years that the last thing I'm thinking about is where they went to college. I'm guessing that's how most if not everyone feels, but every school has its extreme partisans, so I'm curious.1 point

Neither President is going to be better for us than the other, they’ll just be disastrous in their own different ways. For whomever does decide to vote between these two, it is the ultimate play in the ‘lesser’ of two evils.1 point

I actually think Spencer is more likely to continue competing if he gets Olympic gold, not less. Or to put it in reverse, if he flames out early at the Olympics, I could see him hanging up the shoes. Spencer, by most accounts (particularly his coaches) is a guy with confidence issues. When he is winning and wrestling well, he feels confident and looks even better the next match. When he struggles, the doubts creep in, he gets self-critical and down on himself, and it becomes self-fulfilling on the mat, even to the point he doesn’t even want to compete at all (see 2023 NCAAs). His first interview after losing at NCAAs was telling. He seemed SO put upon, SO sick of it all, that he seemed outright jealous of the one Iowa recruit who quit wrestling altogether to become a Navy Seal. He looked/sounded DONE, as if he was grinding forward only to fulfill others’ expectations of him. Contrast that to Spencer circa 2022 NCAAs, aka the “excuses are for wusses” version, who looked ready to rumble even after winning. So yeah. A lot of psychobabble about a kid I don’t know personally (sorry), but my take is if he wins gold he is training the next day for 2025 Worlds and LA 2028, if he loses he goes dark for nine months as “Is Spencer done?” threads swirl here and on social media. So let’s hope he wins.1 point

I agree with all of this. Just wanted to add some stuff. The worst case scenario for Zain is the "Metcalf Effect." He has a super-tough opponent in round one or round two, loses a really close match but tires out his opponent so that he has no gas tank or is injured in his next match. I also think he is a bad draw, but in the case of Brent Metcalf, that was detrimental sometimes to Brent Metcalf. I wish there was 70 kg at the Olympics, but since there's not one, I'll take a 70 kg fellow at 65 kg if he has shown that he can manage the cut. The comparison would be to Micic, who looked like a 65 kg wrestler versus his 57 kg opponents at last year's World Championships. Get past those first couple of rounds ... eat ... rehydrate ... rest ... dominate! As for Brooks, I like your word "conceivably." We just don't know yet. The ranking points have Mason in a third-seed position at heavyweight. The three guys that could pose major problems are ranked first, second and fourth. The fact that the top four main threats (which includes Mason) should be evenly divided in the bracket means, to me at least, Parris is a very, very (I'm weighing in my mind another "very" here) likely medalist. He can lose to other heavyweights, but he has to be a massive favorite against them. I wrote earlier that Mason had an 85% chance to medal. I might have to bump that up a couple of percentage points. I think I've talked myself into that! And yes, "Team USA is the hammer this year." Cheers!1 point

I’m not talking about that rumor. He’s a mammoth 57kg guy but Zain Rutherford made 65 two days in a row, twice in the last month, too. Just saying that ol’ boy got BIG after worlds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Bo moved to Texas for 9th grade. There are a handful of other AAs the last decade, and all are from the Dallas area. Most are from Allen HS (Nickal and others) or Martin HS (Mondays). The panhandle is good like you said, but there just aren't a lot of people up there. The rest of the state south of Dallas has 1 combined team state title back in like 2005. Good wrestling is definitely all from the part of the state that can take an easy drive to Oklahoma. The other 200+ schools try hard but don't really approach a national level. I say that as someone who lived and coached in Houston for a long time.1 point

Well, when you are the bad draw, that should be a medal. I count that as 57 and 74. 97 maybe. Snyder will be a bad draw up until the semis I think. But he has always medalled so he should figure out a way this time as well. I don't know about Brooks. Conceivably he is the bad draw. 65 is a disaster of a weight that anything can and usually does happen. Zain is a bad draw, but there are some hammers in there. 125 Mason is a bad draw until the semis I think. He medalled last year and should do so again. I can see 6 medals, but 4 is probably more realistic. But I have high hopes for this team. Team USA is the hammer this year. mspart1 point

For this same reason I think Iowa should be throwing everything at Alirez. They have a true contender in Spencer in the HWC and now they need to start building out that roster with more capable threats to make the US national team. Alirez would be a huge get for the Hawkeyes/HWC.1 point

To be clear: Spencer Lee will also have to have had the best tournament of his life to win Gold. This is about medalling, not winning gold, and I think 25% is about spot on. It is convenient to forget that Spencer Lee had to come back to beat Wanhou Zou of China via 10-9 Decision. The same Zou that got destroyed by the other semi-final winner Aman of India via 10-0 Tech a few months ago at Zagrab. The same Zou that got destroyed at last years Worlds via 10-0 Tech to Arsen Hartyunyan of Armenia. Two times in the last six or so months that someone teched him without allowing him to score a point on him... yet Spencer had to come back to win 10-9. Chill out with the 'Guaranteed Gold' shit.1 point

I think that would be nice but doubtful. Everyone has a shot at Metaling. I think 2 golds would be great 3 would be unbelievable.1 point

UNC finished 3rd with a record of 3-2 in ACC duals this year under Rob Koll. Would you have the same assessment of him as a head coach? When national championship winning coaches have had the head position at smaller programs they have had good results, but results that wouldn't put them in contention for a team trophy. This is true of Brands when he was at VT, Zalesky at Oregon State, and Ryan at Hofstra. I don't think Scott's coaching record at UNC is an indication that he would not be successful at OSU. On the other hand many coaches that have produced extraordinary results at small programs like Flynn st Edinboro and Cody at AU have had difficulty duplicating those results when they have moved to bigger programs. Some have also had success like Joe Seay.1 point
