  1. Those accountable are the people/companies who rigged the election, the courts that refused to review the evidence, the law/government agencies for instigating groups, Trump for calling it out, and all the individuals who chose their J6 actions. To put this all on Trump is LOL. I thought you were LOL at Antifa since that is the word you highlighted, and there is much public discussion about how Antifa was not involved. My bad for missing your larger context of LOL.

  2. ThreePointTakedown reminds me of the lady waiting in line to get on the plane watching the US Marshals bring up a guy in chains to the front of the line to get on first...and she says "I can't believe they are doing that to that poor man and embarrassing him like that."...to which, before I could say anything, a guy a few spots back goes..."Wonder how his victims feel?"

  4. Missouri fans especially should take notice of the start time as Missouri has this listed on their wrestling schedule as beginning at 4 p.m. CT (which would be 2 p.m. PT) https://mutigers.com/sports/wrestling/schedule Wednesday's Probable Matchups 125: #12 Nico Provo (STAN) vs. #9 Noah Surtin (MIZZOU) 133: #21 Tyler Knox OR Dom LaJoie (STAN) vs. #31 Kade Moore (MIZZOU) 141: #28 Jason Miranda (STAN) vs. #21 Josh Edmond OR Zeke Seltzer (MIZZOU) 149: #11 Jaden Abas (STAN) vs. #29 Logan Gioffre (MIZZOU) 157: #6 Daniel Cardenas (STAN) vs. #10 Brock Mauller (MIZZOU) 165: #28 Hunter Garvin (STAN) vs. #1 Keegan O’Toole (MIZZOU) 174: #21 Lorenzo Norman OR Tye Monteiro (STAN) vs. #6 Peyton Mocco (MIZZOU) 184: Jack Darrah (STAN) vs. #11 Clayton Whiting (MIZZOU) 197: #17 Nick Stemmet (STAN) vs. #3 Rocky Elam (MIZZOU) 285: Peter Ming (STAN) vs. #6 Zach Elam (MIZZOU) This dual match can be watched online on the Stanford Live Stream here: https://pac-12.com/wrestling/event/2024/01/10/missouri-stanford It will NOT be televised on the PAC 12 Bay Area TV channel (they have a replay of a basketball game scheduled for that time slot) Live STATS are also available here: https://www.trackwrestling.com/tw/seasons/MainFrame.jsp?TIM=1704890865044&twSessionId=jvqytaovgp&loadBalanced=true&pageName=%2Ftw%2Fseasons%2FDualMatches.jsp

  5. Missed how Ming got 1. I thought they started neutral so may have been a stalling point. He avoids the major to keep Mizzou under 40, Elam wins 8-1 and Mizzou wins 39-0. That was a bloodbath.

  7. TPT - It sounds to me like you are emotional about that story. Not the other way around. In the current environment, what is the mantra - Make the rich pay their fair share. This story illustrates that very well, accept they all pay and were happy. And when tax cuts have happened, what was the mantra - The rich are getting too much tax break. Perhaps you can explain the CA and NY exodus in other terms. mspart

  8. An old anecdote. How Taxes Work . . . Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men — the poorest — would pay nothing; the fifth would pay $1, the sixth would pay $3, the seventh $7, the eighth $12, the ninth $18, and the tenth man — the richest — would pay $59. That's what they decided to do. The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant daily and seemed quite happy with the arrangement — until the owner threw them a curve (in tax language, a tax cut). "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." So now dinner for the ten only costs $80.00. The group still wanted to pay their bill like we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six — the paying customers? How could they divvy the $20 windfall so everyone would get his "fair share?" The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth and sixth man would be PAID to eat their meal. So the restaurant owner suggested that reducing each man's bill by roughly the same amount would be fair, and he worked out the amounts each should pay. And so the fifth man paid nothing, the sixth pitched in $2, the seventh paid $5, the eighth paid $9, and the ninth paid $12, leaving the tenth man with a bill of $52 instead of his earlier $59. Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man, who pointed to the tenth. "But he got $7!" "Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man, "I only saved a dollar, too ... It's unfair that he got seven times more than me!". "That's true!" shouted the seventh man, "why should he get $7 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!" "Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison, "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!" The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night he didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered, a little late, what was very important. They were FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS short of paying the bill! Imagine that! And that, boys and girls, journalists and college instructors, is how the tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore.

Probably the most interesting one to me are the Staroccis... a couple days after Carter techs him they are donating. Classy.

It takes an involved parent to jerk a knot in the young mans tail, early and often, as needed. No justification here for what this young man has been doing. None. And the more it’s talked about the better for the sport ,and self policing when needed.

  17. I am taxed on my diligence (income, payroll), purchases (sales, excise), property, for receiving gifts, and in my death (estate) by a government with forced entitlement to my money as theirs. Reps sustain power by appeasing the majority at the expense of a constitutionally inspired social contract. A contract that envisions individuals voluntarily cooperating with a government whose role should primarily focus on protecting our individual rights. The taxmen lack the decency of a taxidermist who knows to leave the skin. They take more than is needed and spend like there is no tomorrow. I disagreed when earning my first paycheck at 14... A wider variety in social contracts at the state level would be nice. Then we wouldn't need to rehash the original Federalist versus Anti-Federalist views.

  20. To my eyes, behaving so badly that the brands brothers aren’t able to integrate you into the fold at Iowa. It’s one thing to have barbs to throw at okie state, bc most of the world who interacts with that program does, but Iowa is another deal entirely. That school and that community bends over backwards for its athletes in a special way, and the brands wield their influence rather sizably, the only thing that has to happen is you have to put in the work and make the room better. Perfect example is austin desanto, kid was a total liability, but he showed he was willing to work on himself, and he absolutely made the room better, so the Iowa collective figured it out. The elder brothers seem incapable of winning many people over. Besides the boos, it was pretty clear from the way the Iowa wrestlers treated them that the two older brothers were pretty solidly persona non-grata in the room as well. Being an NCAA champ who is unwelcome in the two most historic programs in wrestling history is a major red flag. Also, johnny poz is a tremendous kid. He’s a bit small for 197, but he could AA. There’s no way goodale burns the programs current golden boy to import room cancer.

  21. That's not at all how the tax system works. That is dishonest to insinuate that this fictional story applies to everyone or anyone. That it might make you feel better to think that people are stealing from you is not indicative of reality. That others get riled up about your story is not evidence of its truthfulness. The social contract is that we agree to pay for the things we need. Some pay more because they have benefited the most. We vote for people to make those decisions. If you want to change something, convince me without making appeals to emotion. You know that a very small number of rich people 'steal' WAY more of your tax dollars then all the poor combined? Why not tell a story about that?

  33. McKenna is jacked and doesn't look dehydrated, but his Armenian opponent, Tevanyan, has the 4-0 lead at the break. Tevanyan looks even bigger, and he's the 5-2 winner. Speaking of Mrs. Finesilver and her wide shot pattern, this is how I'd rank the wrestling mothers on that score: 1. Mrs. Mattin. It's like she gave birth to 7 identical twins but all were born in different years. She had the tightest shot pattern. 2. Mrs. Amine. I think the major differences in her brood is based on weight training. Still, not as tight a shot pattern as Mrs. Mattin. 3. Mrs. Braunagel. She has a tighter shot pattern than it seems, as young Joey is wrestling 197 for the ILLINI, but he's pretty close to the size of Zac, and Danny is right there if he wasn't cutting weight all the time. They had an older brother who was smaller, and that's why she's here in the rankings. 4. Mrs. Finesilver. She was all over the place. The Finesilver children could be Russian nesting dolls.

  34. At first I thought Brands was going to step up to the plate when he seemingly called out the first reporter for nibbling around the AJ issue: Reporter: "Will you be having any additions to the roster second semester?" Brands: "Just ask the specific question." Reporter 1: ".... Will you be having any additions to the roster second semester?" Pathetic journalism, and I was ready to give props to Brands for inviting direct discussion of the issue, only for the reporter to drop the ball a second time. But then another reporter DID man up and ask it: Reporter 2: "Can you comment on AJ's conduct at the end of the Soldier Salute and what is recruiting status is for the second semester? Brand: "You know the answer to that Mike. You've been doing this a long time..." Oh come on Tom. Just answer the freaking question. AJ just did a podcast making it sound like everything's hunky-dory with Iowa and saying he'd just been admitted, and Pyles has gone on record saying it is "very likely" AJ's recruiting status is unchanged at Iowa, but over at HR reporter they're saying they nixed AJ. So no, we don't know. Saying no one's joining second semester "at this time" is an empty truism. Of course he can't go into detail, but a simple "No we are not recruiting him now" or even a "The situation is fluid, we will have to wait and see how it plays out" would be better than just berating journalists for doing their job. No one's listening to the interviews to hear you spew out empty "one day at a time" cliches and scowl at the journalists. Either answer the questions or don't do interviews at all. And the journalists are even worse. If you're not going to ask real questions, or push back even a little bit when there's resistance to telling the truth, get a new job.

  35. For repeatedly and flagrantly hurting people? At about the age they start competing (6 years), they already know it is morally wrong, and an adult should be telling them it is wrong. I'd take my kid out of the sport and dismiss other kids from the team if I were their coach. This boy may be an adult at 18, but he may never be a man.

  36. Unclear from the go fund me if he was using one or not, but always use a jack stand before getting under a vehicle. Don't trust your life to a jack. If possible put some kind of backup in place too in case it falls off the jack stand. For example, if you are taking the wheel off to do the job, place the tire/wheel such that if the car falls off the jack stand it will hit that before it totally crushes you.

  38. There's nothing that I saw on the front page of themat.com about this pretty important tournament that starts tomorrow. If you click on the "News" link and scroll down some, though, there's a kind of preview. Luckily, I've done a preview for The ILLINI Wrestling Blog & Forum & Beyond Plus here. It is IRTC-centric. As an added bonus, there's a preview of the ILLINI versus Ohio State on Friday. The IRTC is sending Zane Richards at 57 kg and Mongolian World Medalist Erdenebatyn Bekhbayar at 61 kg. There will also be Greco later in the week, as well as the Women Freestylers. IRTC Greco favorites Joe Rau and Kamal Bey are registered. The toughies in the field at Zane's weight include: China's Wanhao Zou, Thomas Gilman, Horst Lehr, Aman from India as well as wrestlers from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. For American Freestyle fans, you can also expect Darian Cruz representing Puerto Rico and Brandon Courtney. Other Americans at heavier weights include: Joseph McKenna, Yianni Diakomihalis, Nahshon Garrett, Quincy Monday, Jason Nolf (not my favorite wrestler), Evan Wick, Joseph Lavallee, Zahid Valencia, Chance Marsteller, Max Dean, Isaac Trumble (off his Midlands tournament), Kyle Snyder, Michael Macchiavello, Christian Lance, Mason Parris and Nick Gwiazdowski. Note that I didn't look for other Americans wrestling for foreign countries besides Darian Cruz. I'm sure there are more of them. Here's the official entry list from the UWW. On page two of this pdf link is the schedule. Be ready to cheer them on starting at 3:00 am (Central) tomorrow morning. USA! USA! USA!

  40. Stale news by now, but still pretty shocking to see Otoguro lose his spot on Japan's Olympic team. I know he's a little banged up still, but does anyone think he got jobbed at the Emperor's cup? He was clearly not happy with the two overturned calls at the end of the match, but I've only seen the highlight clips floating around on social media. I don't know anything about Kiyooka, the guy who beat Otoguro, other than he DNP at U23s. Was this the dude who beat McKenna and Desribats at Zagreb(?) last year? Either way, pretty brutal for Japan's wrestling federation to not at least give a returning Olympic champ a wrestle-off for the spot after losing one tournament by a razor thin margin. @CA_Wrestler?

  42. Nahshon Garrett losing 3-4 at the break against Switzerland. I thought Switzerland was neutral, what's with the leg attacks? Nice feet-to-back double from Nahshon for four with :43 seconds left to take an 8-5 lead. A challenge gives Switzerland 2 to make it 8-7 Garrett. With :19 seconds on the clock and a four-pointer in his pocket (meaning he ain't gonna lose on criteria) Nahshon freaking gives up his leg. Switzerland wins 10-8. What a silly mistake. Brandon Courtney wrestling Georgia, gives up the first takedown and the first period ends 0-2. Now tied 2-2 with 2 minutes to go....

  43. There are NCAA rules regarding what a coach can comment on with respect to a prospective student-athlete. Basically, a coach can either confirm or deny that they are recruiting a prospective student-athlete, but cannot go any further than that. I suspect the University of Iowa has a policy that goes even further than that, stating that they cannot comment on prospective student-athletes at all, but am not 100% certain in that regard. That's probably why Brands made that sort of comment. There was a segment where Matt Storniolo went on FRL some years' back and was asked (I believe by Ben Askren) about a recruit who had fairly recently committed to Northwestern, and Storniolo responded with "we are recruiting <wrestler's name>". That's all he's allowed to say. There was an instance in the 1990's where a coach in a sport other than wrestling, at a school that did not at the time (and still doesn't) sponsor wrestling, in a press conference, stated "NCAA rules state we are only allowed to confirm or deny whether we are recruiting a prospective student-athlete. Well, I'm denying. We are not recruiting <PSA's name>." In short, it's not that Tom doesn't want to comment on things (although if I were Tom, I certainly would not be commenting on recruiting a human IED like AJ Ferrari), it's that NCAA rules and/or University of Iowa department policy prohibit him from commenting.

I think Masoumi is the favorite there, honestly. Finesilver might make it further than Valencia in the 86 KG bracket. Marsteller and Dean on the bottom can meet (potentially) in the finals. Nolf should hit the Greek on bottom. Gwiazdowski should get pulled back in to repechage as he has Zare... unless Geno beats Zare in the finals... ... ... Rivera - McKenna semi-finals looks possible.
