  1. It's a dual meet in December. Taking no chances.

  2. I've only come up with one forum poster but its two but one. @TBar1977 & MSU go up as one face

  3. @BigRedFan If you just hold on for a few more hours and stop letting folks, "jerk your chain" the ducking focus may shift to Ohio State who have two wrestlers listed in seven weights and three listed at 184.

  4. I for one am sad to see the demise of the EIWA. I competed 3 times in the tournament and qualified for the NCAA twice. I am on the EIWA Hall of Fame committee. It is the oldest conference in the country. Ivy athletic directors are gravitating towards Ivy League tournaments in every sport and wrestling I believe, got caught up in this new philosophy.

  6. Watch the damned match and then tell us that Ramirez didn't tweak an ankle or thereabouts during the Pitt match. But hey, he shoulda gone against David f'ing Carr with a sore ankle. Cause fans!

  8. Other than conferences and nationals I won't pay for another Cornell match while Mike Grey is coach. Waste of money

  9. You know what was badass? Someone was having difficulty with their stream today for Journeymen. They tagged Journeymen. Journeymen responded, fixed it, and put on a badass product. It is impossible to do that with Flo. I am an asshole about it, but many others are not. They are polite and constructive and all Spey can do is be a snarky piece of shit about it regardless of who it is.

  10. that part was news to me. but he seems better at finishing his shots, and not getting discouraged after giving up a takedown himself. stays active all match long.

  14. Yeah and also it may be something he deeply regrets and has changed. It may be also something that he would contest didn't happen in the first place. I don't have any details so don't want to make it sound like its definitely true. In any event, there seemed to be bad blood between Noto and NC State at last years dual.

  16. I guess I'm "old school" now, but I can't imagine someone not toeing the line in a dual unless a limb was falling off. Why not wrestle regionals and nationals and no other events? For some of these teams its a race to get a good individual win and then sit their guy for the rest of his tough matches all year. Not a lot of pride involved.

  17. I don't disbelieve Coach Grey but I still don't think we're beating the quacking allegations. I think at best he was being extreeeeeemely conservative in a high-profile event. The tough matches that unavoidably had to happen, happened: Cornella needed the rematch with Echemendia - even though it went just as poorly as R1. Foca needed to wrestle Feldkamp after the debacle at LV even after beating Heller. Fernandes needed to test himself against at least one of Pitzer and Bastida. At 197, Cardenas was the one with the missing opponent, though Broderson didn't wrestle in Nashville at all. Nobody cares what Cornell does at 149 or 174 (sorry guys, no offense!). As for the rest, you can make a case for all but ... I'm not surprised that people are skeptical. Here we go in weight order, not order of justification: Ungar looked like an early 2022 version of himself against Camacho trying to get off bottom after being reversed (though I continue to think that staying in the backpack position on top, with the top wrestler clinging on to a standing opponent like a capuchin baby should be considered an escape). Since Greg D. is a quality backup who needs more mat time, his appearance didn't shock me and his win more than justified the decision. Arujau had a long injury layoff, skipping LV entirely, so I am less surprised if he skipped the match because he aggravated whatever caused the long layoff. I don't think he was ducking Frost. Apparently the rematch at Sheridan (Lehigh) isn't going to happen... but Crookham isn't wrestling either, and McGonagle is going 141 and it might be a wrestle-off with Hines due to the embarrassment of riches in Bethlehem at 133/141. Shapiro's dominant win over Bianchi probably took some of the pressure off of feeling that he needed to wrestle Chittum but it still was weird to see him skip it. He certainly didn't seem any worse for wear at the end. Especially if he wasn't actually injured in LV! Was shocked that this match didn't happen. Ramirez definitely tweaked something near the end of the Heller match. It was a messed up scramble with all the legs looking like the tails of a rat king at the end. Both guys came out of it limping and shaking it off. Not the best condition to fight David Carr and I think people are probably definitely right if they say he'd wrestle if it were NCAAs and probably right if the next dual was against, say, Brown. Not seeing this match kinda hurt even though it was the most obvious of the four match-cancelling injuries.

  19. "Injury" is the reasoning that is hard to argue against. It's easy to say, "they were injured" and not get a lot of pushback. From the fans perspective we just saw them wrestle and saw no signs of an injury whatsoever, from the time they went on the mat to watching them walk/jog off the mat. Yeah, I know, we dont' know what's going on inside that knee or shoulder. So what actually is an "injury"? It used to mean, I literally can't wrestle... I can't walk properly...I can't lift my arm above my waist...etc. What is an injury now? My hammy feels a little off. I have a little uncomfortable twinge in my elbow when I move it this direction. I'm only 95% instead of 100% ???? For the most part, we see these guys in the next dual. As a fan, that spends money on the product, this is the frustrating part... not knowing what is real and what is mostly fabricated to avoid a big match up where you are only 95%, but having no recourse as a fan. Seems like the words "It's an owie, you can go, tough it out" are hostile and offensive words nowdays.

  20. This is a testament to the battle going on constantly w/ athletes, coaches, etc and fans. This is an entertainment product, but the coaches and athletes act like the ONLY thing that matters is the NCAA tournament; it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Since they all treat it that, it becomes true. So what's the point of paying for and watching the other events?
    3 points
  21. Yes. Since when does "tweaked anything" keep a guy out of a match? Since when are guys expected to be 100% healthy or they don't toe the line? And I think you said it all: "David Carr." I'm sure Ramirez would be good to go if the next dual was against Duke.

  22. Maybe they should flip the schedule tomorrow, lead off with NC State v OSUe, we wouldn't want more injured ducks in the premier matches. BTW: Oregon really should bring back wrestling.

  25. Or was there some other, totally reasonable explanation for tonight's debacle? Perhaps half the team sprained its ankle on the tricky bottom step to the locker room?

  29. I hope the negative reaction from yesterday's quack pack sent a ripple of fear into D1 coaches who do not want to have their team mascot renamed in the same way that Cornell has officially been renamed to the Big Orange

  30. I have to say between this and the shapiro concussion controversay the optics seem to imply that he been both bullish and cowardly at some point in recent weeks. I don't mean that as an attack, it just seems from our angle that he can't have been very consistent.

  32. I don't think Grey is lying directly just bending the truth to fit his narrative. Are guys ever 100% healthy, probably not. Every coach can probably make this claim, and no one is going to come out and say, "yep, it was a tough matchup so we ducked". They all finished their previous match without noticeable injuries, notice Grey isn't saying they couldn't have gone. Unfortunately, Grey can say it is what is best for the athletes and it probably is (no punishment for ducking and no risk of injuries, real or not), BUT it is bad for the overall sport. It is a bad trend. If everyone keeps doing what is in their best interest, the sport will continue to suffer. The coaches might have too big a voice. Football and Basketball have people above the coaches who make the ultimate decisions. FB coaches would choose to only play minimal conference games and cupcake non con schedules, if they were allowed/rewarded. Most administrations/league offices don't have knowledge or care about wrestling so they just default to the coaches who should be experts, but they do what is in their best interest (natural) and are not actually good stewards for the sport (that isn't their jobs).

  34. I always find it the height of hypocrisy when these football coaches complain about NIL. Fleck makes $6 million a year. Rhule's contract averages over $9 million a year. Yet somehow they bitch and moan about the players getting paid. They are really just bitching about having to work harder.

  35. This is a tough one, except for the fact that that guy shouldn't have ever been a police officer. Seems to me that every cop I know or have ever known swears by the moto "To Serve and Protect"...and they do it at all costs...especially when it comes to children.

  40. you know, it's quite ok for people to post (in a message board) things they didn't fully research and verify. and then someone like Vak will show up and say 'this has roundly been rejected' and i will so, 'cool. thanks for letting me know.' but then there are douche nozzles like Le Duke, which will quite literally post that i'm clueless and disingenuous and/or peddling misinformation. i mean, don't take yourself so seriously, dork. i hereby preemptively note that links you see here from me will not be entirely vetted BY ME! and it will be ok, friends.

  41. Unless Taylor doesn't win gold - then he is going to stick around and go on a revenge tour. But the end of the current quad is going to be a much bigger changing of the guard than ever before. JB, Taylor, Cox, and Gilman are all likely to leave their shoes on the mat. I think Dake will continue going even if he wins an *olympic gold, Gilman retires the next time he doesn't make the team which may very well be in 18 short weeks, and Snyder is going to compete until he's 40 or can't make the team (I'll take the former). We are very much witnessing a valiant last stand and we should all take a moment to appreciate the renaissance of freestyle wrestling. The real treasure was the chairs we threw along the way.

  42. Well the background is probably key to understanding his random-ass joke. I did some exstensive (~35 seconds) Twatter stalking. His post just prior to that was a post if him, rather jacked, at 221lbs or some shit. I think he was saying 86 KG (~189lbs) is a long ways off.
