In Japan, you have to subscribe for the live stream. They were only broadcasting 53kg this morning with Kaori Icho as one of the commentators. She's one of Fujinami's coaches in college. I will say this, though. I knew they'd be back strong, but the North Korean womens team was really a tough out for everybody. Now, whether on not they're still using PEDs is another thing. 50kg- Yoshimoto hung on to win, 5-4 in the finals against Kim(North Korea). 53kg- Choe(North Korea) was controlling the entire match against Pang(China) and lost towards the end. Pang ended up getting teched by Fujinami. Fujinami also pinned Antim(beat Dom Parrish the other week) and teched Bat Ochir. 57kg- Sakurai held on to win against Jong(North Korea), 7-6 in the finals. 62kg will be really interesting to see Ozaki vs Tynybekova. They'll most likely meet in the quarters. North Korea is on the opposite side.4 points

Haha I thought the same thing when it was finally announced. Might as well just make it an NCAA version of the Dapper Dan. It would probably get more viewers in all honesty.3 points

I was able to spend some time in Singapore (a friends first UFC fight was there) and everything just works there, that’s the best way to describe it. People get in lines, the streets are clean, everything is orderly and makes sense With that said, the government is heavy handed and culturally different from America - I don’t think what they do would work for us on a grand scale However, I would love to take back some of their things back to the US - paying government employees private market wages so we have a competent government and aren’t wasting tax dollars training folks for the private market or keeping on idiots because that’s all we can get…2 points

I wouldn't. what this admin has done can never be undone. there's real pain. trauma. i don't understand how the party that runs every election on a platform to help the downtrodden constantly uses them as pawns. and i don't understand how the pawns keep being pawns. currently, if you vote left, you're that agent of pain.2 points

I've been there. It is a big city, clean too. But it is a big city. It was nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there unless I could live outside the city, and there is not much land there to do that. mspart1 point

Yes, I have been careful not to claim that they are without fault, or that there should not be a rule against gambling, or there should not be consequences for breaking the rule (even if we disagree on whether my consequences are so light as to be meaningless). My argument is that both the original penalties, and the first set of retroactive penalties, were too harsh given the facts and circumstances.1 point

In what way is this clip evidence that Twitter is better? Are you saying that in the past this would not have been on Twitter and now it is? Or that you can only find this on Twitter? Or something else?1 point

I can definitely agree with you on the fact that the NCAA has been negligent in maintaining consistency in its own gambling policy which is what makes this argumentative. And I actually do not have any argument with what you're arguing I believe we just have different viewpoints. From my perspective, I have been in those compliance meetings not all that long ago (although at a much smaller institution than Iowa) and they make it very clear about the standards of gambling as well as the consequences. In my case, the compliance officer even went into detail about the dangers of being involved in fantasy football leagues that were for money. The other side is that it was originally ruled a year suspension which for some of the wrestlers was their last year of eligibility which is unfortunate. In some instances, if you play with fire you get burned, and if the NCAA does give a slap on the wrist then they must be consistent in the future with that ruling. This topic is definitely not as black and white as I previously stated, my frustration is the obvious ignorance of not being sorry that it happened but sorry they got caught.1 point

Curious what they have on tap insofar as matches. Would be awesome to see a Brooks - Buchanan or Brooks - Elam match out the gate at 197. Here is my wish list... 125 - Jakob Comacho, NC State VS Matt Ramos, Purdue 133 - Aaron Nagao, Penn State VS Sam Latona, Virginia Tech 141 - Jesse Mendez, Ohio State VS Beau Bartlett, Penn State 149 - Ridge Lovett, Nebraska VS Kyle Parco, Arizona State 157 - Peyton Robb, Nerbaska VS Jacori Teemer, Arizona State 165 - Cameron Amine, Michigan VS David Carr, Iowa State 174 - Shane Griffith, Michigan VS Chris Foca, Cornell 184 - Mekhi Lewis, Virginia Tech VS Parker Keckeisen, Northern Iowa 197 - Trent Hidlay, NC State VS Rocky Elam, Missouri 285 - Yonger Bastida, Iowa State VS Zach Elam, Missouri Bonus Match: 184 - Dustin Plott, Oklahoma State VS Bernie Truax, Penn State Trying to be realistic here in that typically a school only sends one or two per...1 point

The Pan-Am Qualifier is the week before the EIWA tournament, by the way. In addition, if Vito wants to wrestle there, he'll have to compete in a mini-tournament and then a best-of-three against Richards, or a mini-tournament against challengers if Richards for some reason chooses not to compete. Which means Vito would have to potentially make 57kg once before the PA Qualifying tourney, and again at the tournament, and again at the OTT in April. More likely is that he waits to see if Richards or someone else qualifies the US at the PA tourney. If not, he plans on winning the OTT and then going to the World Qualifying tournament (in May?) to get the US qualified.1 point

Shapiro is still going to be an eighteen (or maybe nineteen) year old kid, his results notwithstanding. Any special reason Vito doesn't make the trip to North Carolina? If he doesn't wrestle 133 at any time, it is likely Ethan Fernandez who would go. Greg D. and Ungar are too small to go 133, IMO.1 point

JB already hit the nail on the head but I am going to add to it... Every single time I have gone to any major tournament, domestic or international, for myself, family, friends, etc... we don't only go over to wrestle. That is the reason we are there, yes... we also go to experience the culture. I have made connections worldwide I never would have had I not traveled overseas - both personal and professional - that I still have today. Thinking that the experience is just one match when you go 0-1 is truly very ignorant and shows that you have neither been a part of a national team, traveled overseas specifically for wrestling, or that you even know anybody that meets either of those criteria. Stay in your lane.1 point

I can't imagine it would be any easier for him to go 174 as it would Lewis, if Lewis were going up. That said... what other option(s) would VTech have? 157/165/174 would be some amalgamation of Andonion, Ulry, and Brady. I am okay with that... they would need time, though. Ulry then Andonian then Brady would be my guess at best option (157/165/174) were that the case. EDIT: I like Andonian at 165 because that makes 74 KG an option for him in Freestyle. That said... 157lbs is 71.2 KG... if he were to try for Greco glory, he would need to go 67 KG or 77 KG. 165lbs is 74.8 KG so... maybe? Anyone giving him a chance against Bey/Perkins/etc?1 point

Ryan Money’s path to college at the University of Maryland is anything but ordinary. He is applying his unique experiences as an undergrad athlete and the National Guard as a Private First-Class (PFC) to the classrooms at Maryland. Money was originally looking for an ROTC program. They have the same application process for tuition assistance. When he originally applied, he was denied. So, National Guard it was. There are two options the National Guard gave Money. They have a state tuition waiver which pays one-fourth of the tuition of a part-time student. The other part is through a website called Army Ignite Ed. which pays for another one-fourth of tuition. A native of Gambrills, MD., about thirty minutes from campus, Money came to Maryland on a GI Bill. The GI Bill came first, followed by a visit to College Park to meet wrestling coach Alex Clemsen. By the end of the trip, Money had settled on Maryland. The University of Maryland is a state school, so Money could use his waivers along with other benefits. “It was the best option for me to come here,” said Money. “The team atmosphere is amazing. We’re a family. When I came in, I was instantly accepted. Everyone works together. We are all getting beat up together in a way, so it brings us closer together.” Before his wrestling career got started at Maryland, Money starred at the Severn School, 2022 MIAA (Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association) Champion, a 2022 State Runner-Up, and was also a soccer player. He is currently in the Letter and Sciences program and looking to switch to Computer Sciences. Now in his true freshman year at Maryland, Money said the lessons learned while wrestling carry over to the classroom. “So, I started wrestling pretty much as soon as I was born. My dad (Mike) was a wrestler. I wrestled until third grade and quit. I picked it back up in seventh grade. Wrestling has taught me discipline. That’s the biggest thing.” Being a Division One athlete and being a part of the National Guard helps balance out the hard work. “We (Maryland Wrestling) talk about it here (Maryland) a lot. Working out day in and day out, repeating the process, is not something everyone is able to do every day.” Money plans to take both schedules and communicate with both sides meaning when competition comes up, he can make up his National Guard duties during the week. The military only pays for four years of schooling, so if Money was looking to expand his eligibility, that’s a coaching conversation. Money still has a few years left of school, so his plans after graduation are up in the air. “My contract is six years long. I haven’t decided if I want to do something with the military or get a different job in my major.” The University of Maryland is located in College Park, MD. “Getting food is the best part about living not just in College Park, but even in my hometown. There are so many good food places. That is what I spend some of my time doing.” “Serving our country is maybe the most honorable thing you can do. Ryan is a great kid, not surprised that he is called to that. However, the balance of life, service, school, and sport that Ryan is currently juggling is really impressive when you take a moment and really look at everything he is doing. So thankful for his and all those who sacrifice, answering that call to keep our country free. I sleep well at night knowing young men and women like Ryan exist throughout all the branches of our military today,” stated Head Coach Alex Clemsen. The Terps wrestling squad is led by head coach Alex Clemsen, assistant coaches Nick Brascetta, Devin Mellon, and Elijah Oliver. Money will compete at 165 pounds for the 2023-2024 season.1 point

It’s a World Championship, not a madison-system rookie tournament. You know what you’re signing up for when you do this … Training takes place in the practice room - putting that training to use is the competition. You go 0-1? Train more.1 point

I mean, I obviously think there should be a meaningful punishment given that these student athletes attended annual meetings where gambling and its consequences were discussed ad nauseum. But others don't want to see their favorite team actually punished for breaking the rules.1 point
-
Yes, the gambling athletes should just get a slap on the wrist (or a pat on the butt) and be given a stern warning to attend the annual compliance meetings where they go over the prohibitions against gambling.1 point

Any idealized concept of "checks and balances" today has nothing to do with three branches. It's all about one party checking another party. That's why Republican Congresspeople protect Republican Presidents/"presidenrts," regardless how outside the bounds of the Constitution and/or law one or the other is.1 point

I dont think it really matters what he was doing in that alley- accidently smashing rats, buying a small amount of drugs for personal use, or anything in between. Those like Ward who imply the narrative changes if Sasso was there making poor choices just don't get it. A young man almost died as has had his life altered forever at the hands of some even younger people who will prolly spend years in prison and come out even worse The whole thing is f-ing awful. Full stop.1 point

We definitely do not have 100% all squeaky clean athletes in the United States. We definitely do not have a sponsored doping system.1 point

No, we can’t say for sure that all US wrestlers are squeaky clean. But I’m pretty confident there’s no state sponsored doping program. That’s a huge distinction.1 point

This is highly climate dependent. They'll die in Denver, Phoenix or many other locales without decent water a few times per week. I know this because I've killed many of them.1 point

I agree that was definitely hyperbole. However, JB is undefeated in Gold medal matches, and has done really well against Iranians. He’s proven he can neutralize the under hook, so I think he’s a pretty heavy favorite in that match up… you are right though, no way it’s 99%1 point
