I'm not going to hold one dust up with Swiderski - who tries to fight everyone he wrestles - against him. The rest of his career he has been very humble and gracious and is always fun to watch.4 points

Have known Tanner Sloan since he was in Kindergarten (he and my bro had an “intense” rivalry from K-6th grade and met for the first of many times in the semis at state in Kindergarten…. He was one of my favorite guys in that class on and off the mat… fun wrestling style and nicest kid in the world off the mat. Great at football as well as 4H in his day as well! Easily one of my fave current NCAA wrestlers. In 2019 I interviewed probably 300 or so college/HS kids at random events that I covered for an old publication called The Predicament that I contributed for from 2007-2019… Out of everyone I’ve ever interviewed, Rocky Elam stands out as one of the most well-spoken, polite and appreciative wrestlers I’ve ever encountered. Have been a fan of his since!3 points

There is no problem. CO2 makes up only .04% of the atmosphere; human contribution to that is 3-4%. Human contribution of CO2 to the atmosphere is .000012-.000016 of the atmosphere. Plants need CO2- we need plants- we need to be sure the plants get enough CO2. Carbon is not bad, it’s a major part of what we’re made of. It’s all a hoax born of the deindustrialization movement, and promoted by opportunists, profiteers, and gullible sheep.2 points

As an SDSU fan I respected Franek & Caliendo at NDSU last year. I think my Jackrabbits have a great group of young men lead by Clay Carlson and Tanner Sloan that would be hard for anyone to root against. Some examples of current guys that are hard to cheer against because of the way that they compete (fun style, point scoring, etc) and carry themselves (humble, gracious, etc) are: Keegan O'Toole, David Carr, Vito, Sam Latona, Nic Bouzakis, Andrew Alirez, Real Woods, Brock Hardy, Caleb Henson, Shayne Van Ness, Sammy Sasso, Levi Haines, Bryce Andonian, Dean Hamiti, Shane Griffith, Mekhi Lewis, Parker Keckeisen, Bernie Truax, Dustin Plott, Aaron Brooks, Trent Hidlay, Rocky Elam, Wyatt Hendrickson and a bunch of others that I am probably missing.2 points

It is not available for pubic consumption at this time. 2020ne Tokyo olympics have been scrubbed from Peacock and full matches were not uploaded to Youtube; only highlights of medal matches and select semis were uploaded to Youtube. The closest publicly available without hitting the high seas is the DPS breakdowns on youtube. NBC and the IOC are particularly vicious when it comes to DMCA takedowns.2 points

Retail theft is a HUGE problem. What's crazy is that some try to represent this as a sort of weird R vs D topic... when it really isn't. It's a giant problem for all, regardless of politics. It's like car-jacking - these are really big, really bad problems. That we need to get together to solve instead of wasting our efforts bickering over laying blame. I don't see anything constructive, at all, in trying to make this an R vs D topic. I would think you'd all feel the same.1 point

This is good information, we should be focused on hard data that we can quantify not undefined terms like "climate change." Looking at the article: “The science is irrefutable: humans are altering our climate in ways that our economy and our infrastructure must adapt to,” said NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad, Ph.D. “We can see the impacts of climate change around us every day. The relentless increase of carbon dioxide measured at Mauna Loa is a stark reminder that we need to take urgent, serious steps to become a more Climate Ready Nation.” Wait, so "climate change" is causing CO2 to rise? I thought it was rise in CO2 was causing warming. And now we have another new term, "Climate Ready Nation," which we can't define. Where are the statistical studies that show this causality? If the scientists have the causal relationship backward (or can't establish) is there any hope of solving the potential problem of rising CO2? "Prior to the Industrial Revolution, CO2 levels were consistently around 280 ppm for almost 6,000 years of human civilization. Since then, humans have generated an estimated 1.5 trillion tons of CO2 pollutionoffsite link, much of which will continue to warm the atmosphere for thousands of years. CO2 levels are now comparable to the Pliocene Climatic Optimum, between 4.1 and 4.5 million years ago, when they were close to, or above 400 ppm." Ok this does seem alarming but do we know what the natural cycle is of C02 level, is it a million years, 4 million years etc.? But "This graph shows the monthly mean carbon dioxide measured at Mauna Loa Observatory, Hawaii, the longest record of direct measurements of CO2 in the atmosphere. Monitoring was Initiated by C. David Keeling of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in March of 1958 at a NOAA weather station. NOAA started its own independent and complementary CO2 measurements in May of 1974." wait a minute you just said levels were around 280 ppm 6,000 years ago but you've only been measuring since 1958 and how do we know the levels from 4 million years ago? And sure I know there's other ways to estimate the levels but then don't put so much stock in the Mauna Loa data if its such a short period and we don't know how it fits with longer history and cycles. “Carbon dioxide is at levels our species has never experienced before — this is not new,” said Pieter Tans, senior scientist with the Global Monitoring Laboratory. “We have known about this for half a century, and have failed to do anything meaningful about it. What's it going to take for us to wake up?" Ok sure maybe but our species is surviving. And what are we going to do when we "wake up." Scientists should focus on science, the facts and the data, correlations etc. We need good data and good models to estimate why CO2 is increasing instead of simply thinking its all an industrial revolution point in time impact. I'm sure they are doing good research but this article doesn't provide any information to suggest what we are learning from the research. And sure this may not at all be the fault of the scientist but rather the journalist. I've been interviewed for articles where the journalist put in quotes something that I did not say. Doesn't mean it was untrue but was done because It fit what the journalist wanted to write about.1 point

My opinion on the Koll move to UNC which is just speculative on interviews he has done in the past week was that this move was as much of a personal decision as a career decision. It is no secret that Koll's dream job has been the head coach at UNC, I believe he feels that Chapel Hill is a more desirable place to live that offers more benefits than Stanford. Koll is also very transparent in what he considers the potential of UNC's wrestling program. In his eyes, being on the east coast lends itself to more high-level recruits and UNC is a great combination of a program with the tools, resources, and financials to succeed on and off the mat. UNC admissions is more generous to accepting athletes which in turn will accelerate the success of the program in ways that Koll did not have at Cornell or Stanford.1 point

It’s mid-August so that means the college season is about two and a half months away from the first whistles blowing. That also means we should be inundated with college schedules in the coming days and weeks. On Thursday, a big one dropped as Cornell released their 2023-24 slate. Later that day, Lehigh released theirs as well. Here’s a running list, along with links, for the DI schools that have released schedules thus far. It will be updated as more are released. Tom Borelli at Central Michigan. I don't think he wrestled in college. Monaco would be a great way to recruit NJ. Everybody knows him and his brothers. Edge was the first of it's kind anywhere and he has helped produce a ton of very good wrestlers. Another name nobody brought up yet is Jeff Buxton.1 point

If he has even a smidgen of a chance to make the NFL (e.g. a chance at being drafted) it would be pretty stupid to focus on wrestling instead of football. A 7th round pick will make more money in a 5 year NFL career than a multiple time Hodge Trophy winner who goes on to win Olympic medals. Sad but true.1 point

Saturday is the day that the 2023 World Championships kick off. In college wrestling (and college sports), one of the hottest topics is the transfer portal. This isn’t necessarily a new phenomenon for international wrestling as transfers have been relatively prevalent for some time now. While researching for previews, we’ve looked through the entries and found wrestlers slated to compete at the World Championships who have transferred at some point during their international careers. Those transfers are below and sorted by weight class and style. Each wrestlers has the current country they represent first and their previous country second (first/second). 57 kg Men’s Freestyle Zelimkhan Abakarov (Albania/Russia) Darian Cruz (Puerto Rico/USA) Levan Metreveli Vartanov (Spain/Georgia) 61 kg Men’s Freestyle Stevan Micic (Serbia/USA) Nikolai Okhlopkov (Romania/Russia) Georgii Okorokov (Australia/Russia) Joey Silva (Puerto Rico/USA) 65 kg Men’s Freestyle Khamzat Arsamerzouev (France/Azerbaijan) Islam Dudaev (Albania/Russia) Josh Finesilver (Israel/USA) Austin Gomez (Mexico/USA) Iszmail Muszukajev (Hungary/Russia) Colin Realbuto (Italy/USA) Sebastian Rivera (Puerto Rico/USA) 70 kg Men’s Freestyle Victor Voinovich (Serbia/USA) 74 kg Men’s Freestyle Cesar Alvan (Brazil/USA) Malik Amine (San Marino/USA) Magomedrasul Asluev (Bahrain/Russia) Arsalan Budazhapov (Kyrgyzstan/Russia) Hetik Cabolov (Serbia/Russia) Frank Chamizo (Italy/Cuba) Mitch Finesilver (Israel/USA) Shane Jones (Puerto Rico/USA) Murad Kurammagomedov (Hungary/Russia) Tajmuraz Salkazanov (Slovakia/Russia) Iakub Shikhdzhamalov (Romania/Russia) Anthony Valencia (Mexico/USA) Anthony Wesley (Cape Verde/USA) 79 kg Men’s Freestyle Zaur Efendiev (Serbia/Russia) Akhsarbek Gulaev (Slovakia/Russia) Ahmad Magomedov (North Macedonia/Russia) 86 kg Men’s Freestyle Abubakr Abakarov (Azerbaijan/Russia) Myles Amine (San Marino/USA) Matt Finesilver (Israel/USA) Taimuraz Friev (Spain/Russia) Rakhim Magamadov (France/Russia) Boris Makoev (Slovakia/Russia) Ethan Ramos (Puerto Rico/USA) Javrail Shapiev (Uzbekistan/Russia) Noel Torres (Mexico/USA) 92 kg Men’s Freestyle Ermak Kardanov (Slovakia/Russia) Akhmed Magamaev (Bulgaria/Russia) 97 kg Men’s Freestyle Ahmed Bataev (Bulgaria/Russia) Vlagyiszlav Bajcajev (Hungary/Russia) Ben Honis (Italy/USA) Magomed Ibragimov (Uzbekistan/Russia) Max Lacey (Costa Rica/USA) Magomedgadji Nurov (North Macedonia/Russia) 125 kg Men’s Freestyle Abraham Conyedo Ruano (Italy/Cuba) Giorgi Meshvildishvili (Azerbaijan/Georgia) Magomedgadzhi Nurasulov (Serbia/Russia) Jonovan Smith (Puerto Rico/USA) 60 kg Greco-Roman Ibrahim Bunduka (Sierra Leone/USA) Marat Garipov (Brazil/Kazakhstan) Ildar Hafizov (USA/Uzbekistan) 63 kg Greco-Roman Abu Amaev (Bulgaria/Russia) Georgi Tibilov (Serbia/Russia) 67 kg Greco-Roman Nestor Almanza (Chile/Cuba) 72 kg Greco-Roman Ali Arsalan (Serbia/Iran) Ibrahim Ghanem (France/Egypt) Zaur Kabaloev (Italy/Russia) 82 kg Greco-Roman Aker Schmid Al Oabidi (Austria/Iraq) Idris Ibaev (Germany/Russia) 87 kg Greco-Roman Alex Bjurberg Kessidis (Sweden/Greece) Semen Sergeevich (Bulgaria/Ukraine) 97 kg Greco-Roman Rustam Assakalov (Uzbekistan/Russia) Mihail Kajaia (Serbia/Georgia) Nikoloz Kakhelashvili (Italy/Georgia) 130 kg Greco-Roman Yasmani Acosta Fernandez (Chile/Cuba) Eduard Soghomonyan (Brazil/Armenia) 50 kg Women’s Freestyle Mariya Stadnik (Azerbaijan/Ukraine) 53 kg Women’s Freestyle Sztalvira Orsus (Hungary/Russia) 57 kg Women’s Freestyle Anhelina Lysak (Poland/Ukraine) Sandra Paruszewski (Germany/Poland) 62 kg Women’s Freestyle Alexis Gomez (Mexico/USA) Elis Manolova (Azerbaijan/Bulgaria)1 point
