  2. Here's a little history lesson for the board: Before World War II, the committee put out these pre-seeds: 1. Germany 2. Japan 3. Great Britain 4. Russia 5. Italy 6. Austria 7. France 8. THE U.S. OF ******-******* A. They actually seeded the French surrender monkeys ahead of Uncle Sam. But their chicanery failed! The United States won both brackets, in Europe and in the Pacific. My friends, if you believe---if deep in your heart you really believe---in our country, in our flag, in our way of life, then you know that the ILLINI will triumph over all odds and against all comers just like the good old USofMFingA. As history repeats itself.

  4. As preseeds come up, I am updating my interactive brackets so that you play out different scenarios and see how it effects team scoring To advance wrestlers: D = Decision M = Major T = Tech Fall F = Fall (or any other combination of MFF, def., etc.) X = Bye Big 10 Interactive Bracket Big 12 Interactive Bracket (this is obviously not 100% because I don't believe we know the random draws of the unseeded wrestlers until the day of the tournament)

  5. I was one minute too late to include this in my above post, so I'll put it here....this is my pass/ticket collection since 1970...I put it in special effect to protect my innocence. 43 NCAA's/37 in row.....many Big Tens, Midlands, USA/USSR, World Cups and more. Fadz

  12. Shoulda, coulda been reversed two or three times in third, ref wouldn't call it. Finally an escape and then a quick td at end. I don't know if it was camera angle that made Griffith look off, if he really was or more likely Pendleton is just a good coach, guess will find out for sure in P12.

  13. Having listened to Askren on FRL talk about his youth coaching philosophy I think he means something like this (it is always risky speaking for others, but here goes). Askren does not believe in putting very young wrestlers in tournaments and traveling all over. I do not remember what he thinks is the appropriate age to start competitions, but it is older than many. He has also talked about having parents push him to change his philosophy, and he simply tells them no and perhaps another club would work better for them (and maybe not that diplomatically). He clearly knows what he is talking about, so it is hard for parents to challenge him on this. He has the personal results to back it up, and now he has the coaching results to back it up. As off the wall as Askren can act sometimes, and as strange as some of his takes are on other topics, when I listen to him talk about youth wrestling he makes a ton of sense.

  14. A very poorly written story designed to create an image not supported by facts. Slander an libal are not even comparable. Asking one's employer to reel in their employee isn't close to silencing someone. There is no excuse for what Twitter did.

  15. Not exactly. For example, Penn State and Ohio State have over 30 sports and show an actual appreciation for non-revenue and Olympic sports. It's easy to spot the difference - P5's cutting sports like cross country and tennis and golf due to "expense" is the biggest farce.

  17. Arujau is definitely not a sleeper. 133 along with many other weight classes just don't get discussed much on this board. The board spends more time talking about if Spencer Lee could beat Cael Sanderson when in their primes or is so & so a "meanie".

  26. Wrestleknownothing explained it pretty well. I’ll also add that there are many club coaches that would do things similarly if they could. The problem is that, for 95%+ of guys, if you actually want to build a sustainable club financially. You have to cater to the parents that do the toxic stuff. They’re almost always the ones most willing to spend the money

  28. i do not believe the current sanctions on russia/belarussian athletes has been in effect long enough for athletes to use it as a reason to switch countries... at least one calendar year needs to have past since competing for the current nation... i am sure there is more to that, but, i am ignorant of all of the check boxes that need marked off to switch countries... i do recall something about a couple of belarus athletes having got past the time requirements to switch nations, but, that was started before and unrelated to the current shenanigans...

  29. Obviously it is Davidson barring injury. However, there is no minimum match requirement, so it could theoretically be Emerson.

  36. Just so it’s clear. It’s not just SDSU guys that have.. mixed opinions on Bono. Similar issues have popped up everywhere he’s gone. Wisconsin as a state is in a pickle. They finally are relevant as a hs state but none of their kids are staying. The real problem is youth culture, Askren is succeeding so we’ll because he’s powerful enough to nip the normal youth toxicity and burnout out of his clubs wrestling and development. Especially the dads. He can just kick them out and move on. He also coaches like normal kids can become elite. Almost anyone who tries to beat Askrens results and provide an alternative for Wisconsin in less than 10 years will run into the same toxic dad coach issues undercutting wrestling and he’ll still be churning out studs. People get butthurt about what he says about youth wrestling.. but the way he’s doing things where youth doesn’t matter so much and they’re genuinely trying to create kids who actually want to wrestle for 30 years is working

  37. Part of me wanted the same thing. I’m sure he would have been a great recruiter and gotten some serious talent in the room. But I can’t imagine he would have dealt well with the athletic department administrators etc I thought when he took over as club coach it would be the best of both worlds, he’d get top guys in the room, but not have to deal with head coaching duties outside of wrestling. Obviously, it wasn’t meant to be.

  38. After Davis was gone, part of me really wanted to see Askren get the head job. It would have been high risk/high reward. Regardless, it would have been a ride worth watching as an alum and fan. However, if I was an AD, I would never hire him. I give them credit for hiring him to be the RTC coach. That didn't work out, and gives us a good indication on how a head coaching gig would have ended up.

  39. @scourge165thanks for the info on Askren/UW. Were you ever on the team? I was an out of state walk-on back in the day, but never knew much of the inside story why Askren had such a beef with UW. I know he has steered WI guys away for a while, but didn’t realize the extent to which he is undermining the coaching staff’s ability to recruit the state. That’s a huge hurdle to have to overcome.
