Not a fan of tossing or sliding equipment being a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Intent is the key there and I am struggling to see how sliiding something is unsportsmanlike.4 points

Rules committee meets this week. In addition to review changes... Mandatory mouth piece. Eliminating the interlocking fingers penalty because it is virtually impossible for referees to determine who created the violation. Making the wearing of ear protection optional for wrestlers. No longer requiring the referee to say "set" from all three starting positions. Stopping the riding time when the offensive wrestler is going to be called for stalling. Establishing a protocol for schools to request a review of flagrant misconduct penalties. The school would have up to 48 hours to make the request to its conference. After reviewing the video, the conference could send it to be reviewed by a panel that would include the NCAA men's wrestling secretary-rules editor, the NCAA national coordinator of men's wrestling officials and an independent third party. Penalizing wrestlers for unsportsmanlike conduct for throwing, tossing, spiking or sliding any piece of equipment before, during or after the match. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2025/5/1/media-center-matside-video-review-changes-proposed-in-mens-wrestling.aspx2 points

The mouthpiece is a financial decision. Follow the money, and I bet Pyles of cash that some company is writing a check to push such an equipment mandate. # of wrestlers 4-40 yrs old that will need one and a backup, and a replacement for the lost one, and as you grow, you need more. You also need the newest and coolest ones. A championship mouthpiece for the finals. Now you get more tired since you can't breathe well, causing more stalling and blah blah blah. Fix what's not broke \2 points

The thought process is that the mouthpiece can absorb some of the energy that goes through the jaw to the brain from impact. I think headgear padding works minimally, as well. But it's really impossible to know because it may not prevent concussions, but it may prevent some of the consistent banging the head gets that builds up.2 points

I’d say that the idea is to help prevent concussions even though there is no true evidence that it either helps or doesn’t yet. I can say from personal experience, I used to get 1-2 concussions a year for a few years in HS/College. I started to wear a mouthpiece and have never had one since. I’d never wrestle without one again.2 points

Yawn. Call me when they limit the entirety of the review period to 2 minutes or less.2 points

you teach youth wrestlers , when you report to scores table be ready to wrestle head gear on mouth guard in shoes taped so, at the end of the match just keep everything on , shake hands walk off the mat2 points

The hint from TSL is VT fans are very familiar with one of the coaches [at Hip’s new school]. I would guess Maryland (Brascetta) before Iowa State (Dresser).2 points

The jobs created in the last few reports didn’t reflect government hiring. They were real jobs, predominantly in mfg.1 point

Be skeptical, I suppose. Bo said when he was committing that it was a decision based on where his brothers (Keegan and Melvin) would be comfortable as well. Not a guarantee, obviously.1 point

It just seems soft based on the videos I see. They'll show someone who...is clearly a Wrestler and talk about what a "bad sport" he is because he's trying to handfight and...then gets choked out. That and then the scooting on their rear like a dog with worms. But I do know a lot of people still doing it when their 40. That wouldn't make it...not low impact.1 point

Remember how white, predominantly Christian, men created this great country? Figured it out before anyone else did. Made the world a better place for all races and genders. I do.1 point

That is clearly a fake news AI generated article. There are zero other sources saying Melvin Miller committed to Penn State.1 point

Maybe the admin should hire Jesse Watters, he’d fit right in with these math geniuses from when he thought $20 an hour was a six figure annual salary.1 point

Penn State hasn't sent this freshman class to Treigning Lab in an off season yet, so I'm sure Cole Mirasola and Barr will put on some good weight this off season. The "supplements" in that gym have done a lot for Penn State wrestlers throughout the years. Not sure what the plan is for Connor (currently walks roughly 205). Time will tell.1 point

I've never felt robbed when a match ends in tech. Leg lace or not I've never felt like the better guy lost by 10 or more points. I see zero bad things about a match ending in a tech.1 point

I feel very middle class. My daughter's high school soccer team was ranked top 20 in the country (#17, I think). Anyway, to keep up with the other girls, I felt the obligation to get her involved with a "premier team." That was $6000 ten years ago and travel was regional (not national.) We could have found more expensive options if we wanted to!1 point

I have family that does traveling softball for their teen… 15k/year per kid just to participate. Then travel and lodging costs plus enough job flexibility to work remotely and/or not work. Their team is dang good but wow that’s a huge barrier for entry.1 point

I made it through college in 3 years. Technically I should still have a year's eligibility, right? Graduated in 1986.1 point

A lot of the better guys these days are at least "upper middle class." Makes it easier to afford the best coaches and to travel the country. And this can include a number of sports. not just wrestling.1 point

This board had argued this time and again majority of fans don’t like freestyle majority of athletes don’t like freestyle. most “wrestling” Americans don’t care if we do better in worlds or Olympics and we’re already a world power so there isn’t much more we can improve on the world stage I posted #s to back both up last summer maybe. Not going to look up the thread….. very very small % of wrestlers make it to the wtt level. You’re ruining a sport for more athletes for a few more / better medals. It’s selfish on the freestyle peeps part. pretend this is in caps: you already have a freestyle season. Use it. you don’t have to wrestle folkstyle if you want to be a oly champ… you just can go to Colorado or a rtc no one is stopping the super elite from being super elite. Freestyle is everywhere. Go wrestle it if you want to. leave folkstyle alone. You will ruin it for 85+% of the fans.1 point

And when they added multiple turns and when they added step outs. Techs are a lot easier to come by in Freestyle. I love almost everything about the current freestyle rules, but I would personally like to see us go back to one turn and then you have to change holds. We got to see a lot more great wrestling IMO1 point

Dang buddy, it is not like there were hookers and cocaine discussed here. If this were an act of something that would be frowned upon besides a stick in the mud like yourself, I could understand. Our Reno trips were f'g legendary. There were several trips that we stayed up all night playing craps, and then coached the next day. Go take a nap.1 point
