…is the only person that beat Michael Caliendo in an attached match, that hasn’t won a NCAA title? Looked into Kharchla’s wrestlestat after Rocco Welsh claimed he needed better partners. In 2023 he beat Michael Caliendo at NCAA’s, although Kharchla only finished R12 and Caliendo got 7th. But I noticed that since his redshirt year, Caliendo has had 14 losses. They were to: Mitchell Mesenbrink 6x Keegan O’Toole 3x Shane Griffith 2x Dean Hamiti David Carr and Carson Kharchla. That’s got to be some sort of record for most # + highest % of total losses to eventual National Champs right?5 points

There could not be a funnier situation in the history of wrestling forums then AJ going to Penn State or Okie State.5 points

Take the exact rankings with a grain of salt. Also consider this a cry for help. I cannot find TF, or MD stats for 1999 Stephen Neal, 2001 Nick Ackerman, 2004 Emmett Wilson, 2007 Ben Askren, or 2010 Jayson Ness. Their dominance scores are higher than what I have hear, as a result. Any help with filling in the missing pieces would be appreciated. I also need breakdowns between TF and MD for 1995 TJ Jaworsky, 1998 Mark Ironside, and 2013 Kyle Dake. For these I know how many combined TF/MD they had, but not the split between TF and MD. I just used a 50/50 split. The net result is that Stephen Neal, and 2007 Ben Askren will be at or near the top if the data can be found.4 points

Since we’re on the subject of Askren, I’m basically an NCAA champ by proxy. My junior year in high school, I beat a kid who took down Shawn Silvis back in the day, and Silvis, as a college senior, punked freshman Askren at some open tournament. So, by the glorious transitive law of mat supremacy, me, the 20 dudes who flattened me in high school, and my sister, who laid me out cold before I hit double digits, are all strutting around.3 points

I know this topic is more about Caliendo but it’s interesting to see fans perception related to Kharchla and even tOSU. I like to apply the Iowa test here. What would wrestling fans say if Kharchla wrestled for Iowa and had the career he had? Spoiler alert people would blame the Brands. So why does Tom Ryan get a pass on this and with the state of the team in general? Their recruiting and results do not align. Genuinely curious, I’ll hang up and listen.3 points

Sergio is outstanding, if you are not as good as him he is going to kill you. I was pretty surprised when he lost to Mendoza at ironman he just could not get through the head hands and mendoza picked his spots really well to avoid being in on the leg where Vega is comfortable. I think improving in the handfight is probably what he needs the most. I honestly think he has the frame to be a 149 I would assume the future projection for okie state is Jax 141 vega 149 unless they suck Jax down to 133 and go Jax and one of vega and hughes at 141 and 149. I am not sure about the weight allowance at dapper dan because Vega finished the season at 144 which was 146 with the 2lbs.3 points

An old-school coach that I had at a HS camp told me that Greg Gibson could explode a properly inflated basketball with his gut wrench lock, kind of like Danny Hodge and the apples.3 points

Greg was silver medalist in '84 GR, and has 2 silver and a bronze in freestyle.....will never forget his marathon OT match with Bill Scherr....no time limit that year and the match was almost 19 minutes long. https://www.flowrestling.org/video/5098670-1987-us-nationals-bill-scherr-vs-greg-gibson3 points

I hope he does. And then he can give back his NCs, his podcast microphone, and delete his online presence.3 points

Vega is a freak. Manhandled two of PA's best in Perry a few months back, and Parkins this past weekend. He's D1 ready now but I do think he'd benefit from a redshirt, and then be part of the '26-'27 OSU team (with Robideau, Lockett, Ross, Forrest, etc) that will be PSU's first real challenge in years.2 points

so you really think that someone 150 is collecting? no. ok 3rd grader. here we go, pay attention. someone has the number of someone who died. the person that took the number of someone who died is collecting a check from SS. anything click?2 points

Contend with my argument then. If pins are worth more and you're the most dominant wrestler, why would you choose not to get a pin? You wouldn't. If you are dominant enough that you can get pins consistently, you will get pins consistently.2 points

speaking of Lehigh, Darryl Burley was 94-5-1. 3 losses and a tie with Randy Lewis, a loss to Jim Gibbons, and a loss to Mike Land. 100% to National champs.2 points

Not even close... Deanna, Kevin Jackson. Tyrone Lewis, Nick Simmons, Fix, Zaputil, Zeke Jones.... lots of great ones that didn't win a title.2 points

Psu homers are just adjusting their undergarments and making sketchy arguments. They can’t handle if they don’t win every single thing. Bo nickal is asking if we should create another award …. With rules just specifically so Carter would win it.2 points

Carson was right there with O’Toole the year he won his first one. Would have loved to see how good he could have been if he had stayed healthy and not blew out his knee. Same goes with Sammy Sasso. This season would have been very interesting to watch as an Ohio State fan if Kharchla stayed healthy and Sasso didn’t get shot. You can even include Nick Feldman and his neck injury where he hasn’t been the same since.2 points

If I'm being honest, I'd pick B in any weight class but HWT. With heavyweights, I'd pick Wrestler A. In high school, our HWT *always* had the most falls each year, even though he was average at best. HWTs just have a way of rolling on their back and not being able to get off, like a stuck turtle. At your average HS state tournament, probably every single HWT there pinned more than 75% of their opponents, while it's more of a rarity in other weights. Doesn't mean HWTs are the most dominant. It just means they get pinned more easily. D1 isn't high school, but the NCAA's "Most Dominant Wrestler" award is pretty much *always* won by a HWT. Parris, Cassioppi and Wyatt have always been at/near the top. Even if they take losses, it doesn't matter much, since so many big boys do the fat man roll and get stuck. The NCAA tracks overall pins too. This past season, 3 of the top 4 falls leader in D1 were HWTs. None of them even qualified for NCAAs. The falls leader for D2 and D3? HWT and HWT. So yeah. In general, I'm going to be far more impressed by a HWT who majors or techs most of his opponents. It tells me he can do more than just squash his guy with his size. It tells me he's actually outclassing them.2 points
-
No doubt. He wouldn't be saying a peep if Wyatt wrestled for PSU and Starocci was a Cowboy. Past Hodge winners voting is kind of ridiculous.........they will just vote for their alma mater.2 points
-
This is a weird thread. Are you seriously saying the Flo crew preferred Starocci to suck up to PSU/NLWC, as opposed to that being their actual objective preference? Based on what? I don't buy it. I have my issues with the Flo crew, mostly that they hold their punches and are afraid to criticize a program since they're fearful of losing access to film. But that's an across-the-board problem, and doesn't come into play with the Hodge. There's no track record of pro-PSU bias. The other school is OSU, and they have every reason to maintain good relations with OSU/Taylor. It's not like Starocci is an unreasonable choice; in fact it's the right choice, IMO. Pyles' tweet is also correct: there's a reasonable argument to be made for both Carter and Wyatt. I get that Pyles grates on people, but I don't think there's any reason to think their Hodge preferences weren't honestly held.2 points

Hey comrade sheeple , you libtardos are out in force saying tariffs are taxes and taxes are bad. That jr college economic class would teach you that tariffs are divided up amongst the importing country, the company and the consumer. The corporate tax hikes that Dems are pushing get 100% passed on to the consumer. This economy was dismantled by Bidenflation the last four years but your MSNBC and C hinese N ews N etwork comrades won’t tell you about it so you wouldn’t know.2 points
