I have spent some time cleaning up the Big Board data @Husker_Du so kindly shared. Who knew Shakur Rasheed was Corey Rasheed in high school? I am sure some of you did, but I didn't. I also updated the results to include the 2023 class and the 2024 results. Last time around I pulled data from Flo, but this time it is just the Real Big Board data from Willie. So there will be some differences based on that. For this round I am focusing on the Top 10 recruits. Like Jesse James with banks, that is where the money is. The Top 10 only produced 39% of the AAs in the sample, but they produced 77% of the Champions. So, it seemed like they should be their own category. The next 10 (11 - 20) produced 18% of the AAs and 16% of the champions. That seemed like their own bucket too. The next 20 (21 - 40) produced 19% of the AAs and that gets us to 76% and that is enough. As suspected, Penn State and Ohio State dominate the Top 10 recruits with 18 each. If you were to rank the recruiting classes without knowing what the results would be for the whole 11 years, it would probably look like this. A tie between Ohio State and Penn State with Oklahoma State a little way back, and Iowa/Michigan a long way back. If you re-rank those classes based on results, I think it would look like this. Penn State runs away with it. While Penn State and Ohio State each had 18 Top 10 recruits in 11 years, the Penn State recruits produced a whopping 33 trips to the finals and 25 total individual titles. Bo Nickal was right. That's what they do. Oklahoma State drops from #3 to #7 once you see the results. While their 12 Top 10 recruits produced 16 AA's, they only had 1 title out of 6 finalists. Iowa also slips a spot from #4 to #5 as their 7 recruits produced 6 trips to the finals with 3 titles. Michigan drops from #5 to #10 having gotten only 9 AAs and 1 title from their 7 Top 10 recruits. Meanwhile Missouri and Cornell did more with less. Missouri moves up from #12 to #4 once you factor in their 5 titles from 5 trips to the finals with only 3 Top 10 recruits. Cornell jumps from #7 to #3 on the strength of their 6 titles from 6 finals with 5 top 10 recruits. Arizona State hangs in there at #6 in both the before and after rankings.5 points

The logic here is baffling. Let's just suspend enforcement of all criminal law because there will always be Big Crime (i.e. murder, rape). Until you snuff out Big Crime I won't support or be happy with keeping crime down in general. Preposterous logic. The Broken WIndows theory of swift sure taking care of the small things leads to significant reduction in the big things also. All of this activity - even if only "small potatoes" - is putting Congress and all the endless federal agencies and personnel on notice that business as usual is over. This gives lawmakers the cover they need to be able to resist when their own caucus wants them to get on board with one pork barrel project after another after another. Also, it has been 14 business days. To use another analogy: this is just the pre-season drills. Pitchers and catchers are the only ones in Spring Training. Have faith, the World Series is coming.4 points

The big picture is that Trump can speak for three hours in long form on Rogan and leave you impressed. The media has to clip Trump to cut context and make up bad intent stories to make him look worse. The opposite is true for Harris.3 points

I think not burning Arnold’s redshirt last year may have been worse. If he scores 6 points last year they go from 5th to 2nd. In hindsight, they probably should have used Arnold last year, Ferrari this year. If Ferrari beats Plott then the gap may be wide enough to consider it anyway.2 points

off the top of my head Ventresca Renteria Meza Flynn Peterson He definitely has times where he's looking for turns and times where he is going cross body looking to ride. I think a lot of those matches where he goes top and just rides out for the loss though part of the issue is the guys on bottom just trying to not give up stalls rather than actually trying to get away.2 points

Has Big Ten, NCAA or Iowa made a statement on this? This can get ugly with coaches running into the stands.2 points

What direct, confirmed evidence suggests that DOGE directly blocked payments? Explain the leap from read only access to blocking payments. The Treasury Department explicitly stated that only two special government employees, associated with DOGE but employed by the Treasury, had "read-only" access to the payment systems. This "read-only" designation means they could view data but not alter it, including not having the capability to block or stop payments directly.2 points

This is why losses are over-valued and wins are undervalued in the current seeding criteria. The fact that this type of plan could even exist is a disgrace to the integrity of college wrestling. Guys should have more to gain from wrestling tough opponents than from ducking them.2 points

Mccrone could give Lilledahl fits. Seems like the type of match that a PSU freshmen could lose but you'd be terrified of in march.2 points

It amazes me how people or politicians are worried about someone enriching their selves. While at the very same time they are getting wealthy. Very wealthy.2 points

Starocci 20-3 Tech over a Top 10 guy has to have the other 184lbers deucing theyselves. The only other person in his collegiate career, redshirt included, to bonus him is Aaron Brooks last year via 13-4 Major.2 points

Ecstatic that x.com will continue and the impact on free speech culture. Ecstatic with the current path of the USA. Love what is going on with USAID. Cannot wait to see the savings in education and the pentagon. As an engineer responsible for keeping personal data secure, I am less concerned about DOGE access than the people with existing access.2 points

good point brother, if I had a chance to do this over "my fantasy list", I would have placed Logan in a 3 way tie with Jaw's & Hall, he too was on my list, probably over looked him when I was thinking of Alan Fried & Taylor....but equally as impressive in HS as Jaw's & Hall.....good call!!2 points

This is the main point. It is immoral to give away our granchildren's work/money/energy/property to make ourselves think we are virtuous. If we had a budget surplus then, perhaps (only perhaps because I do not see foreign welfare authorized in the Constitution) we can give it away to foreigners. But absolutely not when we have a runaway deficit. Absolutely not.2 points

The criminal charge would be assault, which Iowa law defines as follows: Iowa Code 708.1(2)(b). Ladies and Gentlemen of this supposed jury, I put it to you this way: Say that you are peacefully seated in a public arena and a visibly agitated low-functioning 139-pound Senior citizen runs right at you with furrowed brow while screaming something unintelligible. Is that assault under Iowa law? Damn right it is. Now go back to the jury room and follow Iowa law. Do your sworn duty. Do justice.1 point

Not a fan of the two piece from day 1. If you have been on this board for a long time, you might remember there were a lot of people who wanted the two piece and how it was such a great thing for kids who were embarrassed to wear the singlet. We needed to make kids more comfortable so more kids were going to wrestle. Singlet guys for the win. As a side note, if you want to see some fun stuff, give Nate Engel a follow... his 3 boys wear their Oregon State singlets and head gear everywhere...literally - haha.1 point
-
They were crappy in the 1960's and are still that now. Had one of our wrestlers with his short pulled to his ankles while trying an escape - he was iffy before and never came back after it happened in a gym full of kids & parents watching. The singlet may not be great but it works.1 point
-
My son is 6 and in his second year of wrestling and he insists on wearing a singlet to every practice, the only kid who does1 point
-
Yes. Honestly the singlet was never the reason interested kids would avoid wrestling.1 point

Wyoming fan who is also a fan of coach Branch here and couldn’t disagree more! You obviously don’t know much about our program but you will soon, some really good young kids in the program (Joey Novak, Jore Volk) to name a few and more on the way. The last two years have been an adjustment, coaches and wrestlers leaving in November hurt the program. Next year if healthy we should have ranked guys at 8 of 10 weights. We will be a top 15 team very soon! Go1 point

I will admit, traveling to Laramie for duals in college was not a highlight of the season. One year the power was actually out in most of the athletic building and had to hold a dual in the wrestling room. As an adult, I actually love visiting the Wyoming/Montana areas but less appealing to a teenager, unless you grew up in a similar terrain or climate.1 point

I was impressed that Volk came back after getting AA last year beating Braeden Davis and exposing Davis's inner temper tantrum. Pretty sad Volk recently got injured and is now out for the year. Weather is a little over stated for Laramie. Sure it can get brutal but visit Minneapolis, Lincoln or Iowa City a few days later when the front moves thru. If a recruit is looking for bright lights and big city night life then Laramie is not it (along with Iowa City, Stillwater and Ames). Any kid who's an outdoorsman knows Laramie is perfectly positioned for world class hiking, camping, fishing and hunting within an hours drive. (skiing is probably a no-no for wrestler knees) Branch has embraced Wyoming culture with some unique duals at the Frontier Days locale and a private dual at a ranch. https://cowboystatedaily.com/2023/11/24/battle-at-the-barn-wrestling-match-was-the-most-wyoming-thing-ever/ https://county10.com/wyoming-wrestling-opens-with-dual-at-cheyennes-frontier-park/ Branch is doing fine at UW. I'm sure the NIL will be a constant hurdle. (Wyoming needs to get out of FBS football and join the Dakota, Montana and Idaho schools in FCS)1 point
-
They used to field tougher teams than they have in recent years. They may not have had a high volume of AAs but they had consistent respectable lineups. With Volk out, I couldn't name a wrestler in their lineup.1 point

Branch is doing pretty well considering what he's got to work with. Imagine his pitch to hot HS wrestlers: "yeah, we're within a thousand miles of an RTC and it's colder here than a witch's titty 90% of the time. Going outside is a pretty bad idea for 5 months of the year, so get used to some pasty-albino chubby chicks around the university swimming pool. There is nothing to do in the state of Wyoming if you don't plan on joining a white supremacist militia or herd cattle. We do have lots and lots of cold, open space".1 point
