  1. Colleges are being advised by management consultants who share a similar background and philosophy as their private equity friends: 1) Identify core revenue sources 2) Strip away everything else 3) Lever up

  2. This is a situation where it seems like we are slowly (so ***ducking** painfully slowly) moving towards the team title being a dual championship of some format. I think this is the right thing. People who say that the tournament tells us who "the best" team is make a somewhat fair argument, but it's just based on their own subjective belief of what's "best." The Cornell example is a great one. Obviously Penn State is a heavy favorite in either format, just a slightly smaller favorite in duals because of the variability of small sample sizes. People against the idea of a dual deciding the team championship call this, essentially, a bug of that plan, but it's actually a feature. Sports is all an artificial construct anyway, rules are subjective and not truly based on anything other than the previous set of rules. Why is a takedown worth three now? Why was it worth two before? Because the people who wrote the rules said so. In sports, though, variability is not a bug, it's a feature! The mere POSSIBILITY of upsets increases fan attention and interest, and the dual format is just much easier to follow. There's also the increased fan engagement of the team championship being decided between two different competitor teams! Right now we'll often figure out that some team (usually Penn State) has locked up the title on Friday night because somebody from Minnesota beat somebody from Iowa (just random teams for the purpose of the example). In a dual the champ is decided by beating somebody head to head, just a better product for a team championship. In the end, we're going in circles on this topic (and have been for years). The question for me has always been, what's a better product for the majority of people to watch and understand and get excited about: a 3 day tournament with more complicated team scoring, the team champion typically being crowned sometime before the biggest viewership, or a head to head dual with less complicated team scoring, the winner decided right there between two teams? To me it's an easy call. And I say that as a person who has been to several NCAA championships and love my time there, and have already booked my flight and tickets for this year!

  4. Team titles seem to be dominated by streaks - earning one often could be as "easy" as walking on to the right team. Individually, every AA has to earn it the hard way.

  5. I am starting compound tirzepatide today, which is a GLP-1 drug. To give you some more information it does curb your appetite by making you feel full most of the time and does slow the gastric emptying. It also affects the brain by removing what is called "food noise." Basically you don't think about food. At least not the way you normally would. It's just not on your mind so you aren't just salivating at the prospect of eating your next meal. It also makes you not want to drink alcohol so that is something I am looking forward to. I am 44 years old now. I have lost absurd amounts of weight in my younger years and got into great shape in my early 30's but at this point in my life I want an easier solution to my problem. I've done it the hard way. Multiple times. I want the easy way this time. My wife is a type-2 diabetic and has been on Ozempic for about a year now and has lost a lot of weight. Her A1C level has never been better since she was diagnosed with diabetes since she started Ozempic. It's truly a miracle drug.

Using the coaches rank, wrestlestat RPI (I assumed everybody who is listed with at least five matches on their will get to the minimum 15 which I know is probably a stretch, and winning percentage). 14. My guess is about 220lbs. I haven't stepped on a scale in a while but I will tonight before I take my first dose. For reference I am 5'8". My goal is 153lbs because for some reason that is where I think I look and feel my best. I was down to 144.6lbs in April of 2014, down from 235lbs and I think at that weight I looked a little too thin.

  17. My thoughts are this: I don't like it. I'm old school and weight dropping should consist ENTIRELY of 1) working out with regular sweats and plastic sweats at the same time, 2) running for hours in aforementioned plastic sweats until you smell like a moldy jock strap, 3) eating an entire bar of Ex-Lax and "browning" your brains out for a day before the match, 4) induced puking. Paddling the soles of one's feet to induce sweating is optional.

  20. Now you are conflating the issue. The issue is protecting women from men who claim to be women. The whole trans movement was never about intersex individuals. It was about fully male men saying they are women and expecting to all the rights and privileges of such. And vice versa. Your latest is the go to when this line of argument fails and this is the last gasp. XO happens to girls 0.05% or 1 in 2000 times. XXY happens to boys about 0.13% of the time or 1 in 750. These are not the people being targeted in the EO. mspart

  22. A DAY IN HISTORY It is February 12, 2012. You check to see what's playing at the theaters, and it's all trash. The top four movies are Safe House, The Vow, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and perhaps the most disappointing film ever released, Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. You put the newspaper down in disgust. There's nothing happening on Snapchat, so you turn on the radio just in time to hear Casey Kasem's American's Top Forty as it runs through the top three in ascending order: Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson and Adele with Set Fire to the Rain. You put a hammer through the radio. It was made for cheap in Korea like your car and The Simpsons. And you try to remember when America made things, and then you remember that America makes great wrestlers, and you'll get to see some of them today as the #6 ILLINI are in the NWCA National Duals Regional Finals. They face #5 Cornell in cold and ugly Ithaca, New York. The dual starts out with that new Freshman sensation Jesse Delgado facing off against All American Frank Perelli of Cornell. Delgado is coming off an upset of #1 Matt McDonough in Iowa City, so you have your fingers crossed. You keep them crossed because this is a Flo stream. And there's the 8-3 win for the Cali Kid! He might turn out to be pretty good some day. At 133, All American BJ Futrell absolutely mauls an Arujau with a tech fall. Things are shaping up. You almost forget that Adele has the #1 song in America and that Jar Jar Binks exists. The team from ILLINOIS needed to win three of the four matches to start off the meet. They do. They needed that because the Big Red (named after chewing gum?) have #1 Kyle Dake, #5 Steve Bosak and #1 Cam Simaz later in their lineup. Jackson Morse actually takes Dake down in that match and the excitement is through the roof! He ends up losing 4-6, but there is no bonus. There is a window of opportunity here. All Americans Conrad Polz and Jordan Blanton win their matches for ILLINOIS at 165 and 174. But now we've hit the real tough stretch of the dual, as #5 Bosak and #1 Cam Simaz are warming up. But Head Coach Jim Heffernan pulls a fast one. He moves up his Sophomore 197-pounder to heavyweight to take on the Cornell Senior. It pays off! Mario Gonzalez wins, and the ILLINI take the dual! #6 Illinois 19, #5 Cornell 16 125 No. 6 Jesse Delgado (ILL) dec. No. 6 Frank Perrelli (COR), 8-3 133 No. 5 BJ Futrell (ILL) tech fall Naryman Arujau (COR), 18-3, 6:08 141 Mike Nevinger (COR) maj. dec. Daryl Thomas (ILL), 9-0 149 No. 17 Eric Terrazas (ILL) dec. Chris Villalonga (COR), 3-1 157 No. 1 Kyle Dake (COR) dec. Jackson Morse (ILL), 6-4 165 No. 9 Conrad Polz (ILL) dec. Marshall Peppelman (COR), 8-3 174 No. 12 Jordan Blanton (ILL) dec. William George (COR), 7-6 184 No. 5 Steve Bosak (COR) dec. Tony Dallago (ILL), 4-0 197 No. 1 Cam Simaz (COR) pinned Martin Smith (ILL), 3:31* HWT No. 14 Mario Gonzalez (ILL) dec. Maciej Jochym (COR), 8-2 -------------------------- This is my second-favorite ILLINI dual of all time. Part of the reason for it is that the win catapulted the Orange and Blue into the National Duals Final Four. Also, it was just a freaking great match. The NWCA National Duals brought excitement to the sport. I would love to see them happen again, and I would suggest that February is the best time. The way to bring back the National Duals is to have teams like ILLINOIS, Missouri, Cornell, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, NC State, Penn, Pitt, Northern Iowa and other highly-ranked teams all show up. Then, the champion gets to parade around for the rest of the year as NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. See how long Professor Carl and the Brandos keep their teams from becoming NATIONAL CHAMPIONS.

  23. 2025 Yarygin Wrestling Tournament Brackets & Results - FloWrestling courtesy of @Jon_Kozak quick link to brackets and results RBY looked good and seemed to be far more offensive in my eyes. He blew a lead in his quarterfinal match and got tripped up by the refs foot it seems with about 4 seconds left to lose whilst backing up. I think he could have won his semifinal match and potentially even the final. Pavlov took second at russian nationals and is the finalist on the top side but Lilledahl has beaten him the last two years at junior worlds. Tough way to go out for RBY but I think a lot of good thinks to take away from this. uguev vs mehktikanov: I believe is a russian nationals finals rematch, both guys appear to be the class of the weight. I was interesting to see how uguev looked here, the general consensus after worlds seemed to be he was no longer at the height of his powers. I'm not sure if that's because Ono and Vito beat him quite soundly but judging how he's looked here I'd say he's at least 85-90% of what he was at his best. 70kg: Watch Baev Etermirov in the second round insane match. Baev has a really odd setup for a snatch single its almost like a miss direction snatch single its very cool. Baev vs Kapynov final, I am not familiar with Kapynov but he looked ouststanding against Shiraev who is super super dangerous. Baev to me has always been a top 3 guy when hes at 70kg so he would be my pick but should be a good one.

  24. Funny story. Years ago my wife and I bought a cabin as a fixer upper project. We closed in February. There was a heavy snow the next day. On our way to the cabin we stopped and bought a couple of snow shovels. Mind you the driveway is 110 yards long, so my plan was to just shovel the end where the plows leave a mound and then take the four wheel drive SUV, build up a head of steam, and ram my way up the driveway. Well, about half way up there was a big drift and it was a wet snow. Long story short, my SUV wound up on top of the drift with all four wheels off the ground. Turns out four wheel drive is irrelevant with four wheels off the ground. So I decided to shovel under the SUV to lower the vehicle, but it also turns out that a snow shovel is particularly ill-suited to that purpose. The curve of the blade made it impossible to extend the shovel under something while also keeping the blade on the ground. Fortunately I found a coal shovel left behind in the garage by the previous owner. A shovel not unlike the one in Bassett's hand. 110 yards of shoveling later, about 5 of it on my knees, I cannot remember ever being as tired. So maybe they just got done shoveling under Brands' car?

  25. That'd never fly. The conference tournaments in themselves are more popular than national duals. I guarantee if you asked 100 hardcore college wrestling fans if they want to get rid of the B1G conference tournament to institute a "national dual meet" that 95% of them would laugh in your face. How about having national duals early in the season? Invite the top 8 or 16 teams per the dual rankings and have at it PRIOR to CKLV. If PSU doesn't want to participate, fine, scratch them and invite #17, and so on.

  26. It's not OK in the military, except extreme circumstances. That's basically your only job if you are a junior-level soldier. I was in the army (full-time, combat arms) and did what I was told, even though I hated that sometimes. That's why I didn't re-enlist but I served my full 3 years. I have no sympathy for these people. They should be punished to the max instead of getting rewarded with double pay at taxpayer expense for disobeying direct orders.

  35. I love me some Mahomes, but I think I am pulling for Buffalo in this one. Washington, too. But you buried the lede. Somehow the Bears were able to see what no one else could see. They have identified Ben Johnson as the worst coaching hire of the decade. I know this to be true because the Bears hired him. How could everyone else think Johnson was the "IT" hire this season? Time for some talent evaluation departments to get evaluated.

  40. I do not remember if it was Ryan Day or Marcus Freeman who said in a post-game interview that growing up a coach told him the other team prays too. I got a chuckle out of that. It reminded me of the old joke my dad loved to tell. A priest and a gambler are at a boxing match. Before the start of the match one of the boxers performs the sign of the cross. The gambler, looking for any edge he can use, turns to the priest and asks, "will that help him father?" The priest replies, "not a damn if he can't box."

  43. It's really simple if you use even the most basic critical thinking. You need only take two of Bo's loves into account: Guns and god. So who can we remove based on those teachings? tOSU: false prophets Michigan: godless heathens that place false idols (team trophies) above all else OkSt: god hates fracks and the earthquakes are His way of telling Oklahoma to stop or else Rutgers: the jersey shore is a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah VaTech: Guns? VaTech has a culture of not shooting no matter what the scoreboard says So that leaves PSU and Iowa. Let's dive in... We all know Jesus was a carpenter. What tool do carpenters use the most? A hammer. That's why Carl famously loves hammers on top so much. But remember, Bo has that Machine Gun Mindset so Bo knows he needs to go somewhere 2A friendly that also supports biblical teachings such as turning the other cheek. What does Iowa have? It has Marinara who is Jesus Trained. It has Sam Stoll who loves his guns. And it has Vinny Turk who forgave a teammate for shooting him in the dark of night. So lap it up hawkeye fans i can't think of anything more american than a biblical scholar toting his machine gun into Carver-Hawkeye Arena

  44. B1G Day What happens January 17, 2025 you reasonably ask? Well Nebraska hosts Penn State for a Big Ten dual. Which means we should get Caleb Smith vs Luke Lilledahl. With their latest rankings drop Intermat has Smith #5 and Lilledahl #11. If Lilledahl wins that match up it is possible that he jumps into Intermat's top 5. But the real significance is that if no one else on PSU looses before then all ten PSU wrestlers will be ranked in the Intermat top five. And with only the Michigan State dual between now and Nebraska, a PSU lose to Sparty seems highly unlikely. Wild. This is possible because with their respective 3-0 Sunday afternoons, Braeden Davis and Josh Barr moved into the Intermat top 5. Of course there are other landmines in the Nebraska dual that could derail the Top 5 Train. While wrestlestat has it 32-0 for PSU, among Jacob Van Dee, Brock Hardy, Ridge Lovett would anyone be surprised if there was at least one win for the Huskers? Two? Three? Minnesota 2.0? Right now PSU sits on 8 expected AAs. This is just shy of the 8.1 expected AAs they had going into the tournament last year. They also improved their chances of achieving a tie with Minnesota as the only teams with 10 AAs to an absurd 6.65%. As a reminder, going into the 2007 tournament Minnesota had an expected AA count of just 6.5 with a 0.78% chance of ten. Screw them odds, Poindexter. And Merry Christmas everyone.
