  1. What a year this has been. So glad that we are able to have a wrestling season with some great wrestling.

  2. This is good no? Some of us are getting old and can't remember what we posted last week much less last year. Sounds like ChatGPT will allow us to have conversations with our younger selfs.

  3. I asked ChatGPT a question about wrestlers from the Lehigh Valley, and it gave me a response with its sources. I clicked on the sources to see where it was getting the info - and one of the sources was actually a post that I had made a year ago on this forum (LOL!)

  5. And when 197’s go up to heavyweight they often do better too. Yet people think we need more upper weight classes…

  6. Always good to verify and validate the code/model. Of course we aren't talking rocket science here so not like anyone is going to crash into Mars if the code is bad.

  7. how is this any less offensive than any racist, sexist, insert-any-ist comment? attacking something you can't control. not that i gaf. but at least you could have called me fat instead. would make it less hypocritical of someone from 'the party of tolerance and unity' lotta hate in your heart. and emptiness in your skull.

  9. Intermat should get a cut from ChatGPT for scraping its data, and then we should get a cut from Intermat for making our data scrapeable, then we should all pool our monies to develop a new AI that creates and posts Sunday JOMBO Comics everyday.

  10. I thought there might be some Pepplemans (Pepplepeople?) in there, but I guess they weren't prolific enough after hs.

  11. I took a look at 1999 to present. There were 144 wrestlers with multiple AA's at multiple weights. It is a real mixed bag when going up in weight. For every Tariq Wilson, who had his worst finish at his highest weight in his last year, there is an Eric Larson, who kept getting better as he kept getting bigger. The more interesting results are in the weight cutters. While there were not a lot of examples of guys going down in weight as they aged, more often than not they improved their result when they did. Phillip Simpson from 8 to 2, Myles Amine from 3 to 2, Tyrone Lewis from 5 to 3, Travis Frick from 8 to 6, Scott Barker from 6 to 2, Raymond Jordan from 5 to 3, Micah Jordan from 6 to 2, Max Askren from 5 to 1, Matt Pell from 7 to 3, Mark Perry from 3 to 1, Jacob Volkmann from 4 to 3, Meanwhile I only found two examples of guys getting worse when cutting Mike Patrovich from 4 to 6, Kirk White from 5 to 6,

  23. Go walk around the nearest bar after Saturday night at NCAA’s and you’ll be surprised at who you run into. Yes, even Nittany Lions. No judgement, but these are college kids and they’re going to be college kids after all.

  24. Re JJ: idk. treating each individual like an individual seems necessary, e.g. what's the use of making Ben Askren train like everyone else? Re lifestyle choices: What about a multiple x AA who uses Zyn or dips? Vapes? Delta 8 or whatever? What about one with a med marijuana card? What about one who smokes weed in the off season? What about etc. Slippery slope and all. Problem is that the the staff will try to keep the special treatment under wraps, but it always gets out. Then the staff gets dragged for hypocricy and it crushes team morale.

  25. Yeah...I'd imagine that's pretty common when you're talking about 3X Champs or 3X Finalists and a 2X Champ at any weight. I'd guess if they move up, they'd probably have a higher bonus rate irrespective of weight class. It shouldn't really be shocking that Starocci is having a higher bonus rate this year. Also...Kyle Snyder won a World Championship not long after he was unable to win the B1Gs or the NCAAS at 197...so I'd still probably include him instead of holding that against 197. That was also the same year J'Den Cox took a 5th at 197. You seem pretty fixated on this "people think we need more upper weight," when really...the ONLY thing I've seen is people suggesting adjusting the weights so they look a little closer to the rest of the world and the jump isn't 197 to 285. And 197s "often" do better at HWT? I don't know, is that true? What constitutes often? 165's often do better at 174, 125's often do better at 133. And some of these examples are really bad. Bo Nickal? Again, the guy who was in the finals as a Freshmen? Stands to reason there's a pretty good chance he'll have success 3 years later. He moved up to 184 and did better. The guy that beat him at 174 did worse. He went up to 197 and had even more success. I don't think there's some larger point being made there. If '97 was so much easier, Starocci would probably have followed through and Wrestled it. I think what you're doing is confirmation bias. You've got a conclusion and you're working back and saying the facts fit your bias. Not sure they do. Yonger Bastida in a year in which he couldn't go down in a match or he was..in a LOT of trouble, he took a 5th at 197 due to his Freestyle Wrestling. He hasn't placed at HWT because it's a BIG jump in size.

  29. Fun fact, Vance's dad Ben was the first ever undefeated high school wrestler from Washington State. However, he was from a school district where high school was only 10-12, so he was an undefeated 3x State Champion. 2x All-American at Boise IIRC. RIP Broncos wrestling.

  32. He also never placed higher than 5th at 174, jumped 2 weights, and made it to the finals. Studs like Brooks, Hidlay, Nickal all made significant jumps in bonus rates going up to 197. It's just not an elite weight class. We've had one, J'Den Cox, true 197 pounder in the last decade that is world class. Could add Snyder if he didn't make that early transition to 97kg

  41. 57 kg (125 lbs) 61 kg (134 lbs) (non-Olympic class) 65 kg (143 lbs) 70 kg (154 lbs) (non-Olympic class) 74 kg (163 lbs) 79 kg (174 lbs) (non-Olympic class) 86 kg (190 lbs) 92 kg (203 lbs) (non-Olympic class) 97 kg (214 lbs) 125 kg (276 lbs) 4 weights between from 190 to 276 is the problem with international wrestling. 40% of the roster allocations reserved for athletes that walk around at 200+ pounds is never going to help the sport. Argue about shifting college weights all you want, but I would never trade our current weights for international. Essentially with the shifting you are eliminating the 149 pound to add 214. Take a poll on who thinks that is best for the sport.

  43. A man of your intellect and determination? Surely you’d have been elevated to leadership long ago. Of course, leadership in your organization does have its drawbacks. Maybe it’d be wiser if you became one of the Palestinians who live peacefully in Israel, maybe a member of Knesset. Might give it some thought. Beats a drone.
