Happy we are getting Taylor-Sadulaev in the first round. Wrestling needs more events like this. One of the greatest ever at 86 meeting one of the greatest ever at 97 for a catchweight fight, with a decent possibility neither will ever wrestle on the world stage again. This is wrestling's Hagler-Leonard. Who would've thought that a match of this magnitude would ever be possible? I'm actually more excited for this bout than I was for the Olympics.4 points

They cannot make a coherent statement on why their candidate is better or even good except they are not a nazi or hitler like Trump obviously is. The problem is this wreaks of desperation. Even a CNN or NBC guy took a few undecided in PA and asked if this kind of talk was persuasive and none agreed. But that is all they have left. Call the guy a nazi or hitler wannabe and hope it sticks. It is not. mspart4 points

The 2023 team was far above average because guys were trying to qualify for olympic trials and/or getting (more) international experience to gear up for trials. This year had much lower expectations because a lot of the heavy hitters have been going nonstop between free and folk from 2021 (beginning attempts to qualify for trials) through April 2024 at the trials themselves. Peaking again is a lot to ask, especially when these guys in particular have done the international stuff throughout their career. Rest assured the 2027 U23 squad will be another banner year.3 points

Stiles beat him in OT 8-5 at the wrestle-off. It was a good match. Hamblin led early and looked pretty good. I think this could be a weight that we see them both get some starts.3 points

Well... if SHP is starting the D-1 Week in Preview, then we can honestly say the '24-'25 NCAA wrestling season is OFFICALLY upon us! HUZZAH! D33 points

Hey! On mat 1... Selcuk Can is wrestling. (Damn he looks like Booger from Revenge of the Nerds!) D32 points

I think if they both start slow, that is a recipe for disaster for DT. Sadulaev can win a low scoring affair with anybody on the planet at any weight. I keep wanting to envision this being like DT's 2nd match with Yazdani (the one in the 1st round at Worlds) and I am having trouble doing that. I was pretty confident in DT's 2nd match with Yazdani, because he broke Yazdani their first go-round, even if it was a come-from-behind Pinfellery.2 points

I have only had limited contact with Bono. I don't like some of these things that I have heard about him in recent years, but out of the two times that I met him , I have one positive story to share. Probably 15-20 years ago, I was working a camp with a number of big names. One of the featured clinicians was a product of the Bobby Douglas coaching tree. Bono, also a Douglas tree member, was working another camp 45 minutes away. Bono showed up at the camp I was working at to hang out with this other individual. Before you know it, Bono is grabbing a counselor and teaching technique on a mat to a group. He did an entire 2 hour technique session that he wasn't asked to do, and did not expect payment. He got a meal out of it and hung out with the staff and that was enough for him.2 points

I saw a vid today essentially saying how expensive it would be to deport these folks. Don’t quote me on it but nearly 100b per million illegals. So what. 800b+ for all of them. It’s almost like they planned it that way.1 point

Surveillance images captured a Volvo stopping at a drop box in Portland, Oregon, just before security personnel nearby discovered a fire inside the box on Monday, Portland Police Bureau spokesman Mike Benner told a news conference. As suspected its the Swedes again!1 point

Everyone is talking about how hard the cut is going to be for Sadulaev but no one seems concerned that he might actually gain quite a bit from getting back in tip top shape. It's the Russian Tank for crying out loud!1 point

Generally speaking, Vancouver is a conservative area, much different than Portland. I can see some antifa types from Portland doing this to counter act their votes. Or it could be Ds in Vancouver trying to affect local elections. Or it could be 16 year old punk kids just having "fun". mspart1 point
-
it occurred to me that maybe someone wants to nullify the election by doing this again and again... saying we don't know who won, b/c of the tampering... which side would do that... but i'm not sure what would be done in the case of this happening that often on a national level1 point

i was trying to decide if it was a good thing. usually the ballots are dems... but this time around, many GOP voted early... but i think many of those were in person at first, i assumed the person who did this had a few piercings and purple hair. but you never know.1 point

@nhs67 makes a valid point about Sadulaev winning a grinder but I agree Taylor would have a round one match advantage in terms of rust factor and with Sadz coming off the scales. Someone mentioned in an earlier discussion that the cut to 92 ain't no thang for Sadulaev, but we'll see.1 point

Ouch!! The thrill is gone. The thrill is gone baby. There is no joy in mudville. No joy at all. Joy is a great campaign slogan. But when asked what you will do when in office, deer in the headlights look. "I will have a different administration from JaBiden, I'm a woman so there's a difference ha ha. And he's an old white man, and I'm a much younger and stupider woman of color. I can't say that I would have made different decisions than JaBiden because I was there in the situation room with him. But my administration will be completely different." Joy just doesn't cut it when you have a candidate that vapid. mspart1 point

It doesn't matter. Whoever did it should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. KATU is Portland, but Vancouver is close enough, Portland is the big market and wouldn't have their own TV stations. I read some headlines and it looks like it was in Vancouver. The fire was inside the box, the video is of officials trying to save the ballots. https://katu.com/news/local/vancouver-ballot-box-seen-smoking-same-morning-as-portland-ballot-box-arson mspart1 point

The blame goes to an actually horrible candidate that the Ds have. She cannot or refuses to answer even the most basic questions. Even Ds are demoralized, hence the nazi and hitler talk. Ds are imploding because they don't have a candidate worth salt. mspart1 point

Taylor has to convince himself that he is the bad draw and then wrestle like that. I can't believe they matched him up to Sad in the first round so I looked it up and sure enough it is there. https://uww.org/event/seniors-world-championships-non-olympic-weight-categories/results Looks like a tough bracket overall. mspart1 point

Nothing needs to change. Because we have a collegiate folkstyle season - this is going to happen. Some years will be good, others not so. A tournament like this keeps our depth rolling. These guys go to the camps, and now have some international competition under their belt.1 point
-
I think the simplest way to do so would be to make the trials take place on different days so that they don't need to pick one or the other. Or make it so if you win the u23 spot and are u20 eligible you can get a special wrestle off.1 point

Correction: Campbell wrestles Wyoming on UFCfightpass on October 31 by special permission of the NCAA. It should be a barn burner! Wyoming were great host last year and both teams wanted to "run it back." Coach Branch, Sentes and UFCfightpass are sure to make it another special EVENT. It will be a great way to kick off the season in style!1 point
-
I hate to be a downer, but with what's happening at Campbell, after the recent NCAA changes, for me, there is a concern of program retention for many of the smaller schools. Here's to hoping we can minimize those losses if they are coming.1 point

For me.....46th NCAA Championship dating back to 1972 (Maryland).....this will be 40 in a row, dating back to 1985 (Oklahoma City)....before I retired, it was a vacation, today.....it's still a vacation....lol. Some day I plan on being the last man standing....oh, and by the way, I can prove I've been to each of those NCAA's!!!1 point
