Harris should be ashamed of herself for taking money from a convicted felon.4 points

Did you vote for the Federal Reserve, its policies, or any member of its board? My democratic self did not. For example, I would abolish the 2% inflation target as it is part of the problem. No inflation should be the target. I have not yet seen the referendum on whether or not Americans believe we should make devaluing our money (i.e. our property and our work effort) a national policy. Neither has your democratic self. No one has ever voted democratically on Fed policy. Therefore, no threat to democracy. The chief executive of an organization (the executive branch of the government) having influence over the nature of the employment of those in that organization is not very radical nor anti-democratic. Therefore, no threat to democracy. Jan 6th is a nothing burger. Never was a burger. Just grandmas taking selfies on a stroll between the velvet ropes for 10 or 15 minutes. The big scandal of Jan 6th was the decisions by the Speaker of the House and the DC Mayor when requests for security were denied by those brilliant ladies. Again, no threat to democracy. A presidential nominee whom nobody voted to represent them: A direct threat to democracy.3 points

It's about time other D-1 schools step up and add women's wrestling. There are some talented girls out there crushing it!3 points

And arguably the best wrestling team in Iowa City. Will the women's team start to overshadow the men's team if the Lady Hawkeyes continue their streak of landing ALL the top recruits and winning all the NCAA titles?2 points

Surprised no comments on Israel's Prime Minister (can't spell the guys name) addressing congress? I have seen bits and pieces...liked how he had a strong message and reiterated how we are allies and should be a united front. Didn't like one of the squad members holding up little signs...not sure how a member of congress can be so against arguably one of the strongest allies of the US, which they are supposed to represent...but considering who it is I am not surprised.2 points

Pretty basic concept. Shouldn't be difficult to understand. The stuff I see on this forum boggles my mind quite often.2 points

The only thing I take issue with that the Brands brothers arrived at Iowa during Gable's "peak of dominance." At this time the Hawks recently had their 9 year winning streak broken and would not win the title again for another three years, it was the Brands brothers, amoungst others, that helped return Iowa to dominance. Alan Fried was the most hyped wrestler I can remember for that era. He was the first to win Jr. National Freestyle 4X, and typically did so in dominating fashion.2 points

It doesn't negate uncle bernards point about the fact that the system that appointed biden assumed Harris would replace him...but this is so true. He literally picked the grossest most incompetent person he could so he would have a shot at a second term.1 point

That was a great documentary! I tried to find it on YouTube but only found this trailer/advertisement for the dvd on Amazon. Well worth any wrestler's time. Cheers!1 point

What if the people who are sexually active and don't want to get pregnant make a responsible choice and use one of the many different types of birth control. There are dozens of safe birth control options. Birth control pills (1960) condoms (1850) these have been around a long time. So, is it lack of education, lazy or just irresponsible? MOST OF THESE ITEMS ARE FREE. I'm going to take cover now for the incoming barrage. I'm not talking about incest or rape or medical difficulties with the mother or the baby. That is a different conversation altogether.1 point

Yep, like it or not he's going to monetize his recruitment. I think it's smart. Also, Fletcher is probably 100% on point here - Bassett has been a big name since he was like 14. He wasn't thinking about money at 14.1 point

I think the Brandses arrived in Iowa City at the nadir of Gable's tenure not the peak. Their senior year in high school Iowa failed to win NCAAs for the first time in 10 years. The streak would extend to 4 years without a title before Iowa won during their redshirt junior season. This is not true. Terry lost in the state final as a senior after winning as a sophomore and a junior. Tom set that record his junior year when he won his only state title. Tom didn't wrestle in the postseason as a senior because he was suspended by the school for sexual misconduct. I would say that neither Brands ended their high school career on a high note. On the national stage Terry was 5th in Fargo before entering his senior year and Tom was 4th. After their senior year in 1987 Terry placed 3rd and Tom was 5th both at 123lbs. Those finishes might have been a little late to play into recruiting hype. I wasn't following wrestling in 1987, but I suspect that despite their outstanding records they were not the biggest recruits in the county that year. Top 20 maybe top 10 would be my guess, but that could be biased high based on what they ultimately did in college. Other 1987 high school grads that went on to win multiple NCAA titles include Kurt Angle, Jeff Prescott, and Matt DeMaray.1 point

lol. 'grassroots' literally zero votes. literally chosen. by the DNC based largely on identity politics and bank account. you can argue whatever you want about the issues but this ^^^ is indisputable. and it's utterly anti-democratic.1 point

Surely Mr. Miller isn't suggesting we should have "free and fair elections."1 point

Sounds about right. BTW am assuming they were chosen by a democratic process to represent us correct? Otherwise I'm sure the Democrats would be screaming that they are "threatening our democracy" and taking away fair and free elections. Joe Biden has made protecting American democracy a central cause of his presidency. He is standing up to Donald Trump and the extremists that threaten our democracy to ensure that our elections are free and fair.1 point

In late 80s/early 90s, a couple of Cedar Falls (pre-Fargo) fame that were very well-known were Alan Fried, Scott Schlucter and TJ Jawrosky. Closer to my neck of the woods, it was Ty Moore and Cary Kolat. Kolat was on another level. We in NJ had a guy named Pat Lynch who would typically place at Jr. Nationals. He was one of the first of the ‘man-children’ – middle/upper weights who came in as freshman who could compete for state titles. He had a great scholastic and freestyle/Greco career, but he is probably and unfortunately best known for not winning states as a senior after winning as a sophomore and junior largely untouched. A real underrated wrestler from Lynch’s year was Steve Dalling. 2-time champ and 3-time finalist. Don’t think he was nationally known - nothing flashy but solid in all positions. Would have been a great college wrestler.1 point

What specifically is so bizarre? A candidate needs to insist on staying in until he/she decides to get out. You can't say "well, I'm thinking of dropping out" and then stay in the race because that would be political suicide.1 point

He wasn't forced out. They did put pressure on him. Trump would NOT have done the same thing if the same thing happened to him.1 point

Thank you President Biden for your service. Not only the last 4 years but your entire career. I speak for many Americans when I say that I appreciate your patriotism and love for your country. You put the country's best interest ahead of your own in this incredibly important moment in American history. We know that your opponent would never do something like that, regardless of his age or health.1 point

It makes no sense that he would win world's the year before the Olympics and then all of a sudden lose motivation when the second Olympic gold would place him as one of the greatest American wrestlers ever. I just think Brooks surpassed him.1 point

Something Taylor said in one of his post-trials interviews made me feel like he had a mild case of HEW. He referred to his motivation in training, I believe. I will see if I can find it. It felt like the OSU job came along at the perfect time if that is the case. Of course, there are 1,000,000+ reasons per year why any time would be the perfect time to take that job.1 point

No one has mentioned Dave Schultz. His senior year he won the Great Plains Championships pinning 2x NCAA Champ Chuck Yagla at the event. He wrestled in the Tbilisi tournament finishing 2nd. Those results were both in freestyle though he also won the US senior open in greco. In terms of accomplishments in high school Schultz and Carr might be at the top of the heap. Cejudo is close too. He won the senior open in high school and also beat NCAA Champ Jason Powell whilst in high school. He lost in the finals of the WTT to Sammie Henson. Has anyone else won the senior open/WTT/OTT in high school? There are probably 10 or so guys who have placed at one of those as a high schooler - Blaze, Kolat, Forrest, Stieber, Valencia. Fried? I think Snyder and Pico didn't really start winning on the senior level until they had graduated.1 point
