Last night @Jason Bryant pointed out that in Jesse Mendez's corner was newly minted Hall of Famer Logan Stieber (Distinguished Member category). And over the weekend, @Iwrite was kind enough to share with us the bio for the third Banach Brother, Steve, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the "Outstanding American" category. This got me thinking about who would be the next wrestler to get into the Hall of Fame based primarily on college and international achievements. I took a quick perusal of the Distinguished Members category by year (https://nwhof.org/hall_of_fame/awards/Distinguished_Member?page=1) and estimated that in the last 25 years there have been between 50 and 60 honorees who were there based primarily on college achievements, or a combination of college and international with a heavy dose of college. So let's say 2 to 3 get in next year. Who are those guys? One caveat, a wrestler has to be retired for 5 years to be eligible (and I believe that is five years from any combat type?). Some ideas: Cole Konrad - 4x AA, 3x finalist, 2x champ in college (4,2,1,1). Pan Am Gold while in college. World University Gold. Bellator heavyweight champ. Steve Mocco - this one might come with a caveat. He is already in the HOF as a Glen Brand honoree (for wrestlers from Iowa) and a Dave Schultz honoree (high school). Maybe the Brand and Distinguished Member are mutually exclusive? Tommy Rowlands - 4x AA, 3x finalist, 2x champ in college (2,1,6,1). University World Champion, Pan-Am Champion, 2x U.S. Open Champion, and 6x U.S. National Team Member. Ben Askren - No brainer. 4x AA, 4x finalist, 2x champ in college (2,2,1,1), 2x Hodge Award. Olympian, Pan Am Gold, World Grappling Champ, ONE and Bellator Champ. Who have you got?3 points

Ben has given so much back to the sport on top of his accolades I think he has to be the next guy.3 points

Because of Dukes judo style that translates so much to his wrestling he's a really hard guy to comp to anyone. I love that he has a multitude of ways to score. I think its easier to prop up Dee and blaze because of their wins but I can't discount duke for lack of opportunity which I feel like I do subconsciously. I do think blazes offense has progressed quite a bit over the last year now that his knee issues are sorted out and I expect that to continue. The stat that always floors me is that he wrestles D1 in ohio and has gone to three iron mans without giving up a takedown during his entire high school in season career. The talent of the 2025 and 2026 classes is just something we may not seen replicated for a very long time you have these 3 and then Ross,Bassett forrest for 2026 as well as the Rayney brothers who I would drop a tier but are still incredible. If you told me any of those 6 guys were going to start a collegiate season tomorrow I would probably bet on all of them to be 4x AA's.3 points

What schools have them and what can they do about it? What schools will have them in the future with recruits coming in? At Iowa, jammed up between 165 and 174 - seems like one AA threat will sit this year At OK State, Merrill or Carroll will need to occupy opposite weight classes for at least 3 season - possible future logjam At tOSU, Mendez and Bouzakis will need to go up next tear to make way for Davino to get in the lineup At Penn State, some blue chip recruits or pas AA's are going to have to sit - is there a way around this? I gave the eggregious issues that should have not let the judge on the case and not allowed to case to move forward. Since the NY Bar says no judge can give political contributions, Merchan was in flagrant violation. Since the NY Bar states that a judge with real or construed conflicts of interest are barred from the case. Merchan by his D donations and daughter with D fundraising job is the definition of a conflict of interest. The indictment was not specific as to the crime, the means of the crime, nor the documents that prove the crime. It was an empty dissertation of why Trump should be convicted but not the specific allegations of why. You can't just prosecute someone because you don't like him and he probably did something bad. You have to allege exactly what he/she did and then prove it. There was no such allegation so therefore no case. It should not have been tried. mspart2 points

The trial should never have happened. I wrote a long dissertation on this and my browser crashed. I will not re type it up. Suffice to say the indictment was not specific as to what Trump did. The DOJ and FEC did not prosecute after investigating. The state charged Trump with federal election law violation. Judge was not randomly picked, nor was he eligible to preside as he contributed to Biden and Democratic causes. Judge was also eligible because of conflict of interest with his daughter who works for the Ds as a fundraiser. The trial, as performed, was a joke. Judge was obviously against the defense and for the prosecution. The prosecution in the closing statement disregarded rules the judge had laid down but the judge did not stop them. The judges instructions to the jury essentially said they did not have all agree on what Trump did, they could find different things Trump did and as long as all of them thought he did something, that was a unanimous decision. Since when is there such glaring vagueness in the indictment, charges, or jury instructions. The case should never have been brought. The case should not have had the judge it did. There should have been no trial held nor verdict read out. This was a sham and a joke of a trial. This did not do NY legal system any favors. Elie Honig and Jonathon Turley are agreed on the above as well as others. mspart2 points

Tom Ryan just texted me. Here is the deal. Davino takes an RS this upcoming season. Bouzakis and Mendez hold the weight. The following season 25-26, Bouzakis and Mendez move up giving Davino the 133 spot. Side note: Marcus Blaze projected at 197 for the Buckeyes. I swear, All of this is TRUE!!2 points

There are several coaches that need to go in for sure. David James and Pat Pecora need in the Hall bit the Hall seems to only care about D1 accolades. 2 NCAA team titles and 661 dual wins for Pecora and 12 team titles for James (5 NAIA and 7 NCAA) should be enough2 points

a house is not a civilian house if it is being used as a base or safe harbor for soldiers/terrorists2 points

To play devils advocate….if we let that one terrorist live, how many innocent lives are lost later? Probably more than 7.2 points

I remember feeling pretty good about his freshman year. Sixth place as a true freshman at a tough weight made me a buyer.2 points

Nice way to try and change the question slightly to belittle a stupid point you have. The answer for me is, I am not sure if I bomb the house. A lot of questions need to be answered and intel is needed. How big up the food chain is the person? Who are the civilians in the house? How many? Why are the civilians there? Are they kidnapped or are the enabling the terrorist in some way. Can a sniper take the terrorists out? Etc. Etc. Again, a simple yes or no doesn't work in your line of thinking.2 points

terrorists using a house as a base or safe harbor is NOT a civilian setting2 points

it says civilian setting2 points

no civilians but get this..since you ignored the point of my post about isreal taking civilian casaulties seriously think how many palestinians would have died if Isreal had not spent all the money on missile defense. if every time hamas/palestianians launched rockets at isreal they went in and took out the place that launched them most times they just shoot down the missiles and let it slide.2 points

I would say Snyder has a pretty good argument for a better heavyweight career. Has an Olympic gold medal and 3-time NCAA champion.2 points

Would not be surprised in the least bit to see Mendez hold 65kg for the USA after this year through the next quad. He is legit.2 points

Steveson was also one of, if not the, heaviest favorites in the cancelled year. In any sane eye, for arguments sake, he should be considered 2, 1, 1, 1. Not giving those respects is purely ignorance, hate, or a toxic and convenient combination of both.1 point

If you put that side-by-side with the Bartlett - Mendez final this year, it looks nearly identical. Different rules, yet identical. Add in that Alirez controlled Bartlett at OTT, even if the score was relatively close. It shows that Mendez is real close to being 'that guy' right now. I know styles make matches, but it is rather known that Bartlett is better at MFS than Folkstyle. Mendez controlled center. That match would look similar in Folkstyle. Also, the match was at 150lbs. It might not need to say anything for Folkstyle. They may very well be different weights this next Collegiate season.1 point

Not really. Take for example the good senator Bob Dole. The state of Kansas doesn't have a lot of power and influence only 6 reps in the House but of course 2 Senators. But when you've got a senator with as much seniority and experience as Dole you'd be crazy to replace him with a new freshman GOP senator. Look at where the state is now. And when Dole was senator they weren't getting stupid wealthy off of serving. Just like NIL its a completely different ballgame now regarding the money. But if you had term limits, let's say two term for senate, then you are always looking for the new one to bring up and no state is getting these crazy out of balance old guy/gal power positions.1 point

Nobody has the “right” to purposely target and kill civilians anywhere. Terrorists killing innocent people is not, and will never be a justifiable action. Yet terrorists like Hamas target and kill innocent civilians as a matter of course. That behavior has no place, anywhere, in a civilized society. Just like any serial killer, terrorists need to be put down like the pathetic little cancer they are. They should not purposely put civilians in harms way as a means of defense. It's a terrible tragedy when they do. The responsibility is only theirs. You ask as if it’s a difficult question to answer. (At least we're past the myth that Palestinians don't support Hamas... of course they do.)1 point

How about a group of uninvited people stand in the entryway to your house? They are there only to tell you how much they hate you. They don't do it politely. After you acknowlege they hate you they refuse to leave. They impede your ability to go to your yard. You have friends coming over to eat dinner but they can't get in your house. You call the police to ask them to remove the uninvited haters from your house. Yes, this is horrible. Trespassing is a crime. A felony if someone the leftists don't like thinks about it in New York.1 point

He is realizing that it was not the political haymaker he thought it was. And with the very short attn span of the US electorate, they will probably buy the snake oil that Biden has always been concerned with holding down illegal immigration, and that it was Congress' fault for not doing anything. Hopefully people are smarter and have longer memories than that. We can only hope. mspart1 point

I mean, I guess. I don't see a demonstration of need from a guy who was talking about how much money it was going to take to get him to come back for his final season and who signed a NIL deal with an MMA manager for an undisclosed amount. Is he burning through his money? Not willing to pay for his family if they can't afford it? Simply taking advantage of the gofundanything world live in to save himself 15 grand? Even the health/injury ones can be questionable. They pop up the day something happens from a friend close to the family for a random amount with no details on how much is actually needed. I'd like to think it all goes to the stated cause/need, but my skeptical nature won't allow it. Gofundme is the modern-day Nigerian prince email.1 point

It's just my opinion as a fan. I think the Olympics are a great event because they showcase competition between different countries. If one country is better than the others at a particular sport, sending their athletes to compete for other countries takes away from this part of the event. If all country affiliation were to be taken away and the Olympics became a competition of the best athletes in every sport, it would still be a great event, but it would just not really be the Olympics. I don't blame the athletes for doing this though-they are chasing a dream.1 point
