Smith then Fried. Smith vs Fried. Fried was an 18 yr old Senior wrestling at STED Ohio. Bob Dieli is the announcer and he is in the Ohio and National Wrestling Hall of Fame. He spent over 25 years broadcasting wrestling on local cable TV, known as "Matside with Bob Dieli." His mantra was when life doesn't make sense, Wrestle. Fried loses to Smith 13-4 I believe. Dieli is legendary in CBUS. His announcing is worth the listen.2 points

Some are relating this attack to 9/11. Some are comparing it to Pearl Harbor. Civilian casualties by the Japanese were incidental. When civilians are attacked, it’s easy to take sides, and when women, children, and elderly are specifically targeted, there should be applied strategic deterrence. That’s not to say the same tactics should be employed, but the use of human shields might prove ineffective.1 point

Mesenbrink has been great at worlds and chances are that will translate to folkstyle. Caliendo did beat Griffith last year and has pushed O’Toole as much as anyone not named David Carr. I think that’s a toss up match until we see further evidence from both guys.1 point

Word on the street is that Coach Denney didn't retire on his own time schedule. This may have been due to coach having upset an administrator or two over time. He is a very strong willed person, if you don't know him. Also, there has been some push back since his retirement on what many around the program have been calling "fake culture." I found that to be surprising.1 point

Take off the PSU glasses. 157 is a PSU favor but it’s 1v2 definitely a toss up, 165 is a toss up. The jump transfers make in year one at Iowa is real too. I expect Franck and Caliendo to next the next step up in the performance. 141 is an Iowa favorite but I would agree with you that it’s not necessarily a lock. Who knows about AJ but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him at 197 at all, without medical intervention. He stated that he would make 185 for mma if he needed to.1 point

Yes, it should remain an Olympic Sport. Also the Wrestling folks should sue the Olympics to force full weight classes in the Olympics like the World Championships. After all, they don't force basketball teams to play with only 4 players or baseball with only 8. Why punish Freestyle wrestling? Forcing guys to suddenly change weight classes makes for a product that is not as good as it can be.1 point

They have a roster of 30 for this season, 25 of whom are freshmen. Not sure how well they are going to do this year, although my expectation is not great. (if a brand new Division I program is competitive in year one, I would have to wonder what the coach is doing wrong for down the road)1 point

Can crook still make 141? The VT board chatter seems to indicate he may have outgrown that weight class. Later in the season, he seemed to fade with gas tank issues. He’s a shooter and fun to watch. I knew he was going be a good one when I watched him at the SE open last year and he beat the Columbia kid pretty convincingly. I had heard mehki might go 184. If true, that’d be interesting who slots at 174.1 point

If anything Greco should also be a Women's option as well. ADD to it... don't take away. Also... curious question(s) would be... do we try to get Folkstyle in? Beach wrestling is picking up steam... let's get Folkstyle in? I would also be all for getting wrestling to be a Winter sport at the Olympics. Just saying...1 point
