  1. I don't understand why Snyder is put in the same boat as Taylor and Dake. If DT and KD were to retire now Snyder would have to compete at five more Worlds/Olympics just to get to the same age. By that time he will have 14 Worlds/Olympics medals. He is 27 years old.

  2. To be honest, one of the worst takes ever on this forum. Dude has medaled in every world/Olympic tournament since 2015, with basically the only thing keeping him from have more golds was the best pound-for-pound wrestler in the world. It would be one thing to say Snyder appears to be slipping a little, but at this point he will still perform better than anyone else we could put out there.

  12. At this point, Japan has 5 World Champions and two wrestlers vying for Gold. If these two succeed, Japan will have gold in 7 out of 10 weight classes. Even without these two golds, this is dominance. Congratulations to the Japanese Women's Freestyle Team. They are hammers!

  14. If you do not think it is wrong to permanently change a young child's gender than you are part of the problem. A child cannot vote or drink alcohol, etc because they are not mental and physically developed enough but they can hack off their body parts? The people pushing this agenda want our young people to hate themselves and want to change themselves. God made each person unique just the way that they are and loves them just the way that they are.

  16. The challenge is, I think, there is a cost benefit analysis that goes on here. And it does not favor attendance. For this World Championships the US wrestlers spent a week at Ramstein Air Base in Germany as part of an acclimation camp. Ramstein and Belgrade are in the same time zone (GMT+2). State College is 6 hours behind (GMT-4). To perform optimally requires getting over jet lag which takes time. And time is money. Attending these events costs USAW a lot of money. Which is why they send the athletes home as soon as they are done competing. No free vacations, no extra nights in a hotel. The four ranking series events were at Zagreb (GMT+2), Alexandria (GMT+3), Bishkek (GMT+6), and Budapest (GMT+2). From the east coast that is a six to ten hour time difference (and in the wrong direction for jet lag purposes). Eastern Europeans, Iranians, Russians, and to a small extent, Japanese all have a distinct advantage when travelling to these events. If you are going to the events to perform optimally, you would need to send your team a week ahead of time. And that does not take into account that you may not yet know who your team is given the US selection system. So, now you may need to send multiple athletes at every weight until the representative is nailed down. Puerto Rico has an advantage there. They have one guy and they already know who it is. Of course, you can also just choose to attend without optimizing your chances. Fly in a day or two before you wrestle and just pick up what you can. This will also put the athletes at higher risk of injury, both at and after the competition. You have to include that in the cost column when doing the analysis. Then there are the athletes. If you talked to any of them in Belgrade there was a common theme, "it seems like I have been gone a month, and I cannot wait to get back home". Living out of a suitcase is hard, doing it five times in eight months is brutal. And if they are still in college (Arujau, Snyder in the day, etc.) it may be impossible to do both and be any good at either. It should be no surprise that an organization headed by an eastern European has chosen a series of sites that favor eastern Europeans, so we should acknowledge that it is not as simple as just show up. The seeding system is supposed to be about rewarding performance, but the people in charge of the purse strings want to make it about rewarding attendance for the obvious, pocket-lining reasons. Saying everyone knows the rules ignores this basic fact. I would rather see a crappy rule changed. The rule should align with the goal of rewarding the best, not with rewarding the eager. I get that it can be hard to differentiate between best and most eager if the best do not compete. If they want greater attendance from the US, the current team champions (and it is not at all clear to me that they want this), then they need to be more geographically diverse with the location of the ranking series events.

  17. On the flip side Cleveland Belton has shown that he has the ability to beat AA level wrestlers such as Parker Fillius (7th) and Malyke Hines (R12). If he can get more consistent he could make the jump to an AA threat.

The US just isn't performing at 97kg. Time to put that old dog down. By the time the 2024 Olympics roll around, he'll be 28 and way past his prime. It's really hard to see why there aren't young guys knocking Snyder off. It's not as if you have to be a world-level gold medal contender to beat him. I'm not sure you really thought this one through.

  20. For sure. No reason UNC can't be just as good if not better than NC State, or Cornell for that matter. I mean heck are there any other sports where Cornell is consistently top 10 in the country? They were mostly good because of Koll (I know he mentioned in his Flo interview that in his first year they lost to Ithaca college), and Grey is continuing it.

  21. Want a high seed? Be active. Go to rankings tourneys. It certainly helped guys like Rivera. I know it is sacrilege in some circles to suggest this, but I think Nick Lee may have found some more success with Rivera's draw. Should have hit some tourneys, Rivera did. It was a bit messed up this year, because the Russians who may have wanted to attend Euros, ranking series events, or 2022 Worlds, were barred from doing so.

  22. After nine consecutive medals in the 97 slot for USA, either the measure for performing is being p4p #1 in the world, or this is such a horrible troll dish even a little cinnamon couldn't make good...

  25. Best bet I'd make is Ohio State. That is a really low point total and I think 133 and 141 for Ohio State are going to go very deep at nationals. That leaves 8 other weight classes to contribute points. By my estimates, Ohio State will place 3 - 6 this year.

  26. I’m not going to lie, I came into this expecting to click his thread and feel bad for him and think it was ridiculous. Then I got to the part where he said “yeah I knew the rules. I didn’t attend the meeting. I just did it anyways because it’s not a huge deal” and he lost any sympathy I was going to give him. That’s a good PR example of how not to explain your situation to the public.

  30. I've always likened Snyder to this generation's Dave Schulz - his early success coupled with his longevity, his interest in constant learning and improvement, his appreciation of the Russian wrestling experience. (No one else of his stature went to Dan Kolov this year.) He will have his ups and downs with a career this long, but I feel very confident in Snyder's chances through the 2028 cycle is he chooses to compete.

  31. Illegit sites such as NYT, WaPo, PBS, old traditional broadcast networks, Pravda, CCP government news, etc. Such also exist on the other end of the social spectrum. "Consider the source" is a term I heard decades ago. I thought it applied only to specifically titled opinion and editorial articles. Now it must be applied to the title of the publication/broadcast and applied to any information, article, even sometimes the advertisements which come later. Sadly, journalists have given up journalism. Caveat Lector. Reader beware.

  35. From a wrestling perspective on the outside looking in UNC seems to be the best of both worlds. Koll will have more flexibility in getting students enrolled at UNC as well as use the benefits of the location to draw east coast talent to Chapel Hill. As I see it Pop in Raleigh used the same strategies when he got to NC State and has had a lot of success. Very similar locations, might give the academic edge to UNC but regardless dont be surprised if the UNC v NC State rivalry is revamped sooner rather than later.

  41. Well, to be fair SnyderMan, he has bounced back from setbacks before. I would say that Sads would be the exception. But I would say that these three guys from Bahrain, Georgia, and Azerbaijan have improved to the point where the Bahrainian just powered through to his first World Championship and the Azerbaijani guy who got tech’ed last year by Kyle, but at an earlier tournament this year Kyle had to mount a comeback to win. Kyle also wrestled the Georgian a few years ago and beat the Georgian in a back and forth match but it didn’t seem that Kyle was in any serious jeopardy. But fast forward to this year and Kyle barely won in a squeaker with the Georgian. So my point is that if Kyle he is still improving, he seems to be improving at a slower rate than the three mentioned above. So obviously Kyle and his coaches are going to have to make some adjustments. Now Kyle is only 27 and I figured that he would wrestle and be our guy for the foreseeable future. And looking at the domestic landscape, I don’t see anyone else challenging him except maybe J’den. So I think that Kyle is going to have to figure out how to stay ahead of these young guns, or face getting left behind. I know that one poster mentioned Aaron Brooks as a possible heir to 97, but really I think he’s going to be Taylor’s replacement for 2025. I say that because I think DT especially if he wins Gold will leave his shoes on the mat. But it’s going to be interesting to see who will replace our stars, I mean SnyderMan, Dake and Taylor aren’t going to wrestle forever.

  44. Comparing Taz to Bolt is an absolute insult to this kid. He didn't big brother either of those guys. It was literally technique and leverage. I'm sorry, the guy isn’t all that muscular, at all. But when he gets more matured, physically, into 97, oh my.

  45. What is an Elon Musk personal guarantee worth? For that matter, what is an Elon Musk contractural guarantee worth? Apparently, in order to save $1bn in cash and get the deal done, Musk gave a free put struck at the deal price to Jack Dorsey to keep Dorsey invested, thereby saving Musk from also having to buy Dorsey's $1bn stake. But what does that even mean? No one knows if it is a verbal agreement or written. But given Musk's unwillingness to honor contracts, it is not clear if the form matters. Musk is also eternally short of cash (hence the need for the free put), so now Dorsey has both Musk's credit risk and his hatred of honoring contracts to deal with. Nothing to do with Twitter being better per se (except that if it is maybe Dorsey doesn't need to exercise the put), but boy if I was Fidelity or any other shareholder, I sure would be ticked that a director of the company who was suing Musk to make him pay up also got a side deal put worth hundreds of millions in order to not take any downside risk on the deal. It is always entertaining with Musk.
