I could see that happening. Great lineup if 74 and 84 are healthy. Come on powers that be, make it happen!2 points

and maybe we need calorie caps? Think about it ... everyone gets free food, is it fair that football consumes more free calories than wrestling?2 points

Ishtar the Mesopotamian goddess of love and fertility. This is where we get the Easter bunny from. Also the resurrection of Jesus is big in today's reason to celebrate. Happy Easter wrestling friends, and Happy Ishtar to those who are offended by that.2 points

My 1st car (not actually my 1st one, but the 1st one I bought with my own money.) Mine was white. 1968 VW Fastback - Air cooled 1600cc dual-carb rear-engine (see the fins above rear tire for air flow) I thought it looked a little like a Porsche 911, at least from the front. Basically, a VW bug but way cooler and every bit as slow.2 points

So, the theoretical Ferrari transfer outweighs Cael, Taylor, Dake, Snyder and Varner? Is this Bob Nicolls? Only Slumlord Supreme would believe something so batshit crazy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Those 1983 stats are pretty amazing. After dominating at Big Tens you have to figure they were at the high end of their seed possibility. And yet every one of them finished at, or above, their seed.2 points

Why? If you lean conservative California would be the threshold of hell. You could not pay me to go live out there. If Koll did not like the political climate at Cornell, surely it’s no better at Stanford.2 points

Are those numbers contingent on the number of transfers they bring in?1 point

Nagao seeks like he's most likely Penn State. Garret Grice potentially Nebraska. Any thoughts on destinations for Chris Cannon? I'll throw out North Carolina as a dark horse consideration. Good academics for a kid who went through Blair and Northwestern. Opening for them at the weight class. Probably scholarship money available after all the seniors they had just finishes. Coleman Scott and Tony Ramos as lightweight mentors.1 point

I watch a lot of wrestling videos, somehow this made it into the suggested videos. Whoever made it had to watch lots of videos to find this much "content".1 point

I was thinking the same about Garrett Grice, I believe he will probably end back up at Nebraska. If that happened I wonder how Burwick will feel after being over recruited for the second time. Crazy.1 point

The idea of a salary cap at either the NIL level or coach's salary level is a concept that does not apply to college athletics. The purpose of the salary cap Is not to ensure parity (though parity is an offshoot and what owners want you to focus on). The purpose is to protect profitability by removing the prisoner's dilema from consideration. No owner can attempt to win just by outspending the other owners. It is meant to protect the owners from themselves through colluding to keep costs down. It only works because all parties agree to it. All parties agree because they get compensated for their agreement. Owners through revenue sharing of national TV contracts. Players through mandatory minimum spending by owners. In college sports there are no owners, there is no revenue sharing, and there are no collective bargaining units. The NCAA does not/cannot control an athlete's NIL earnings. And they never will. Telling athletes what they can earn (zero) is what got them in this predicament in the first place. On top of that, the NCAA has gone to court repeatedly to argue athletes are not employees. How then could they argue to have a say in an athlete's earnings? As for coaches, there is no single authority like the MLB, NFL, etc. that could attempt to normalize compensation across schools or sports. And even if there was, take note that none of the leagues with athlete salary caps have coach salary caps.1 point

As to team scoring, I thought using the HS scoring rules would have accomplished what was wanted back in 2000. It keeps a wider separation between placewinners and the higher advancement points allow for lower and non-placers to still score significantly. It also helps with the difference between ch and co bouts.1 point

If recall correctly when Cael was at ISU we were at/going into a pretty good parity state where several teams had the ability to compete for team titles.1 point

Disagree. There is a difference between “constructive criticism” & complaining about everything.1 point

Fair enough, but is this any different than the past? Not sure it is. The difference now is it's easier for a kid who's stuck behind a Max Dean to transfer and not lose a year of eligibility. This is one of those things that really hurt Women's Basketball, or most of the...people get upset when I use the word "Niche" but the...smaller sports? The non-revenue generating. However you'd like to phrase it, but when you know before the season who's going to win, it's not good for the sport. You knew UConn was going to win WCBB for years, before that it was Tennessee. Even if you didn't follow it, you knew that. The one thing Wrestling has going for it at all levels, you obviously don't know who's going to win the individual weights and that brings in fans from every school. That is one thing that makes the sport so great. You can find guys from anywhere. Northern Colorado can beat the #1 ranked Wrestler from the University of Iowa. You can have guys who didn't win a State Title win a NC. You can have a guy who didn't Wrestle in HS win 6 NCs!...though Haslerig may have had a tougher time today, still, it happened. All the same, it'd be nice to see a little more intrigue as it pertains to the team Champs.1 point

It's not good - I agree , any way that you regulate/combat the NIL and portal it will be challenged in court. If they want to model it after pro sports there would be an NIL cap of money to be spent along with the number of portal moves that can be made.... but then you need a union to negotiate that.... so we end up with pro sports at the amateur level with the NCAA ball connected to the chain. It is certainly a mess with the rich getting richer. Coaches used to have to develop wrestlers... now a weak spot in teh lineup just means a portal transfer.1 point

LOL...of course that's great. Being in a high profile match. I promise it wasn't "fun" losing that match...but the problem is, we're getting Dad's translation of the son. As I said previously, it can be rewarding. That's a sense of accomplishment when you wrestle someone who pushes you, you leave it all on the mat. You can lose that match and still come away feeling good as you can believe you're IMPROVING. Which...again, from my very first post. But again, no Wrestler enjoys losing. I don't believe any high level athlete does. As Vince Lombardi said; As for the resume stuff, yeah, that's pretty classless, but consider the source. I would certainly not point to any of Max or Otto's failures and shit on their resume...just because I've said repeatedly, I respect everyone who actually steps on the mat. They ACTUALLY understand what the sport is. If you haven't done that...you don't. And again, I have LBJ on ignore, but he's asked me constantly about my "credentials," or "resume," in situations where it really has absolutely nothing to do with the larger point. Listing off accomplishments or Wrestlers I've beat in a discussion like this feels a bit...self aggrandizing. I mean, I suppose I could ask my Dad to come on here and comment, or any number of coaches, but they likely all give me a funny look and just laugh! Particularly my Dad. He's a little classier and reserved. He's always said my accomplishments are not his(though, I do beg to differ). I've never heard him come back from a National Tourney and say, "WE were All-Americans." Hell, I don't think he' ever said, "he," referring to me was. Maybe if prompted, "how did he finish up," he may have. In any event, I'm quite secure in my accomplishments and my resume. The crux of the issue there is that I said I thought Greco was the easier style of Wrestling(which...again, for the umpteenth time, I would have NEVER gotten into had he not said Freestyle of Folkstyle were not "real" Wrestling(oddly enough, only the style his sons have had success at are "real" Wrestling. Just in general though, this has just been a weird discussion. LBJ, I mean, I get his trolling. I've hit on some sore spots. Formally just seems oddly sensitive about my initial post. It seems like it started when I stated that I didn't think Wrestling could reach Basketball/Football level success, he took a great deal of offense. And, as always, LBJs participation makes it all the stranger given he's said Folkstyle and Freestyle are not "real Wrestling," and only Greco is. I suspect I know why that is, but I'll keep that to myself.1 point

Of all the things that could potentially lead to the demise of wrestling. Who would have thought that the biggest predator would be some of the wrestling coaches themselves. Did not see that one coming. All the talk about hard work and honor - and at the end of the day, just about money and medals. That's more than a little pathetic. Starting to look like wrestling's recent upward trajectory is taking a turn for the worse. Dammit.1 point

Let me get this straight. Giant "supermatch" with stage, lights, and "all that jazz" to end the show - and, after, he says "I love wrestling." Of course, he does - he was in the main event and the center of everyone's attention. Every kid would love that. I get it - you are very proud and want to post about it even if it is bragging. Nothing wrong with that. Except, taking shots at others here on the way is seriously weak. Calling out their "resumes"? C'mon - even weaker.1 point

@scourge165 I appreciate your take. I very much personally emphasized winning when I was younger. My family dynamic was very competitive, so I believe some of my ways were inculcated very early on (almost beyond my control). From 50-60+, I played basketball against 16-40 year olds. These 'youth' call me "hardwired," so to them I am largely a lost cause. Still, when coaching I have a different philosophy, because I don't see the mindset I carry when I compete as healthy. I agree winning is more fun than losing. I don't agree that one should not or cannot have fun simply because they lose. The competition is the same. The W or L is simply the result based on the rules of a game, preparation, factors beyond one's control, and the relative strengths and weaknesses of the competitors. I've seen other coaches emphasize winning and how that affects youth when they lose. Gamesmanship or even 'cheating' dishonors competition. They don't occur when winning isn't over emphasized. Barring ties, 50% of all competitors lose a given contest. Fear of failure is something all coaches should proactively guard against. All sports, including wrestling, should be much more about learning and improving than any final score. None of this philosophy has anything to do with 'participation trophies.' It has to do with keeping kids engaged in a sport despite results, because sports--the right way--are a valuable tool for quality character development in our youth. BTW 'Participation Trophies' are to keep only the youngest engaged (a carrot) during their earliest learning years. Then, they've had less time to recognize their improvement and can readily discern the gap in physical abilities between themselves and the more mature children in their age group. These trophies cease to be effective with youth who emphasize winning but don't improve to close this gap.1 point

Vera, with all that talent, does tend to get out-toughed when it matters most after blowing everyone away when it doesn't, true. The one downside to Rau is that while he has not competed in Greco since 2020(1) Oly-trials he has competed in Freestyle. It has all been at 97 KG there, too, which is actially two weights up in Freestyle. He looms thinner in the neck and arms anf much more rotund in the gut region. As if he isn't taking competition serious and just going for fun. This should be the first time Coon has to wrestle Schultzy when Schultzy has been a full 130 KG. Schultzy didn't so much have a hard year as much as he was simply scouted and his game tactics were easy for folks to get around. He just chose not to evolve in Folkstyle and rely on only sumo push-out.1 point

I’m honestly getting the impression the big figures/coaches see this and either 1. just want to win as much as they can before it crashes down 2. Want to “win” so bad and want as little depth of competition as possible and poaching other coaches work just makes “winning” easier Either way. It’s become pretty obvious that the trend is towards poaching and eliminating depth of competition. Then finding excuses to justify it1 point

I got a haircut once and the women giving me the cut put plastic gloves on when she saw my ears and she commented on them. I don't remember the exact conversation, but she asked me if I was a Wrestler and I said, "yup, the ears give it away," and...she goes on to tell me that they're caused by a fungus and some type of skin disease causes them. So I explained to her how you ACTUALLY get cauliflower ear...it's from the cartilage getting kinda broken down and...well-everyone here knows the truth. She comes back and CONTINUES to argue with me saying her Husband Wrestled, and that's why he quit! So I asked how long and she says he wrestled His Freshmen year. I remember making some comment like, "well, your Husband's wrong, I've wrestled for 15 year(or whatever it was at that point) and it's not a skin disease or a fungus. And then just sat there as she was huffy and I was a little annoyed. She also didn't believe me when I said MOST Wrestlers(this was College by this point) had cauliflower. I suspect she confused what her husband had told her...1 point

My biological daughter, who goes by she/her/hers, and is tom boyish, was costing me $10K annually for gymnastics before finding other sports. Now her car insurance is costing me $3K annually on top of the car purchase. Soon, she will go to college and cost over $10K annually again. I have two other children in competitive sports. My wife has not worked in 13 years. Since my company was acquired, I've been working all hours of the day for all days of the week. I cannot quit my job without having another job lined up. I work to pay for these other four people living in my house. Just want to know what my options are and what choices I have.1 point

55kg- always light (bum dump tssst)... if nowry signs up he will walk through it... 60kg- nasty again... ildar, roberts, miranda, black, thomsen, moomey, gurule steps up in weight... none of the guys at the pointy end care for each other at all... next year this weight for olympics trials will be bananas with jones coming down... 63kg- couple of interesting things... tuma coming down from 67 and Fuenffinger is back... expect jones to handle his business... 67kg the big story will be joel adams and his coming out party... i would be very surprised if he wins it, but, he is a problem... 72/77/82kg same bracket as per... 87kg- Stefanowicz back for the first time since his olympic birth... vera and carslon with there to say hi... 97kg- rau back... interesting... 130kg- coon back... schultz has had a tough year so far in the poo style and he has never beat coon any way... still waiting on rulon to enter... waiting for attao to get a little more mature and this might just be his weight for years to come... he is only signed up for U20 but just wait... that kid is fun... not your typical heavy wrestler...1 point

100% full disclosure... i know i got a rep here and every where else i go... but the truth of the matter is my boys loved wrestling since the day they stepped on the mat... one pulled too much weight... the other couldn't pull at all... they both made all their own decisions on where and what weight since they have been 12... they did not get grounded as a punishment when they were young... they didn't get to go to the tourney that weekend... by the time they were 10 and 12 they refused to go to locals... there was just no point... we had to travel, so, that is just what we did... i never cared about results at all... only effort... if either them didn't give maximum effort i had no problem telling them that... some people are literally drawn to this sport because of how hard it is... this sport is not for everyone and i am totally ok with that...1 point

This. It’s actually 5 times as much I believe (.5 advancement +2 for fall). So even on the top side, it’s 3x as much for a fall. I’m all for encouraging bonus points, but it’s just not a good system for determining the better wrestler. A guy could go 1-2 and earn 3 points and a guy could go 4-2 and earn 2 points. In a dual meet, a fall is worth double a decision… I think that’s about right. So if they are adjusting bonus points for consolation rounds, I do think that would be good.1 point

What about Messenbrink at 157? Followed by 165 the following season after Mocco is gone and O'Toole moves up. Obviously it needs to materialize first, but the AWA/Askren/Mizzou connection plus weight class seems like an obvious fit.1 point

Mizzou is trending up. A very good tournament for the Tigers, who will return 5 AA's and a National Champ next season. The tournament will be held in Missouri, which is sure to be a boost for the Tigers.1 point
