  1. Kennedy Blades cuts her hair short and wrestles as Ken Blands for ASU at 174 lbs. She makes it to the semis, where she meets Carter Starocci. In the middle of the match, Cael and company figure out that she is an interloper and imposter. Starocci goes nuts and is disqualified for bad mouthing her and the officials. Blands (aka Blades) makes the final and ESPN ratings go through the roof for the match, which overshadows both Yianni's and Lee's attempts to win 4. Starocci quits Penn State and decides his revenge will be to "wrestle like a girl" at the Olympics in the 76KG weight. His new name will be Cartier StarLight. Inter-gender wrestling is born ... or re-born. Andy Kaufman smiles and winks from the Great Beyond.

  2. Blades looked solid her first match. She's still young and it shows. Glaude looks pretty good. She's holding position well and hand fighting better than she has in the past. Jennifer Page lost an 11-11 criteria bout in her first match against Bullen, who looked slow. I wasn't wild about the reffing on that match. Grote got manhandled. She looked bad. Amanda Martinez got teched by China. She needs more international experience.

  3. Bonocorsi and beard are wrestling in the finals when the lights flicker and AJ and Anthony Ferrari rush the mat with full WCW nWo gear with folding chairs and knockout both wrestlers , then mr Ferrari strolls onto the mat ( obviously wearing sunglasses inside at night) and forces the ref to call the fall has AJ lays on top of both beard and nino , then they double bird and finger guns John smith and exit the arena

During a long break in the action (to review a replay, no doubt), he whips out a bottle of ranch dressing from under his singlet and starts eating buffalo wings in his corner. The following year, the rules committee rejects a push-out rule in favor of a no finger foods rule.

  21. You may want to temper expectations (yes, I understand the irony of that statement given this audience), but since we went to 33 seeds the three highest scoring 30-33 seeds (out of 120) in aggregate scored 10.5. Maybe 10 points might be aggressive. For further context 77% score zero points (0-2). Another 15% scored either 0.5 or 1.

  27. https://fightingillini.com/news/2022/10/13/illinois-announces-plans-for-illinois-wrestling-training-center.aspx Wrestling doesn't draw the crowds of football or hoops, but the school is definitely investing in it. Really, I think Illinois is trying to get to the elite level in as many sports as possible. Women's basketball and the combined track and field program have seen big changes in the past year. They should do better on the stats thing though, yeah.

  28. Losing to Vito and RBY isn't exactly going to shake things up because 1.) RBY is the top seed, clearly, and 2.) Vito isn't in the conference. Mendez has earned the No. 2 seed at the B1G Tournament. The good news for Byrd is that he'll have a chance to wrestle in the same tournament on the same side of the bracket. Hopefully he won't be devastated because of his seeding and wrestles to the best of his ability. Side note: Does Illinois care about its wrestling team? I wanted to check Byrd's results and the stats link on the Illini website has 21-22 final stats. That's horrible for a B1G school.

  34. Thank you for the time and effort you put in to this @ILLINIWrestlingBlog. I could throw out criticisms here and there, however I will refrain and express my gratitude towards the content. It is quite refreshing. I will throw out one insight, though: They have never ignored the prevailing wisdom of head to head matches from out of conference dual matches. I am referencing the Mendez/Byrd(133) and Paddy G/Gilcher(157) 'seeding' projections. I honestly wish they would seed based off team dual meet results, though.

  37. If the rankings are any good at all, they could just include the top 32 and fill the bracket. That way conferences don't get auto bids, the top guys do. As in the case of 149, pac -12 should send 3. Maybe the correction takes this into account. Just seems like a weird way to do it. Yes, I understand B1G is the best and will have the most qualifiers. I think doing this by conference is wrong. Do it by individual ranking, if those are any good at all. mspart

  38. The old forum was quite naturally perfect, it was a work of art, flawless, sublime. A triumph equaled only by its monumental failure. The inevitability of its doom was apparent as a consequence of the imperfection inherent in every wrestling forum, thus it was redesigned based on its own history to more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of its' nature.

  40. Yeah, being from New Jersey I took an interest in fellow Jerseyans Larry Sciacchatano, Ricky Dellagatta, Clarence Richardson, etc., going down south. The SEC had multiple AA's 8 times in 11 years from 1975 thru 1985. They also had 4 different teams (Kentucky, Auburn, LSU & Tennessee) place in top 10 scoring. So while saying that "the SEC used to have some tough wrestling" may be giving the conference a little too much cred - "more of a myth than reality" may be a little bit harsh.
