Not possible. Whole institution is D1 now. Never. ever. Accept dropping a program. It’s more than just winning, too. They’re in a bad spot but it’s not impossible to dig out. Not in wrestling’s culture to just quit on something when it’s hard. I won’t accept that as an option. None of us should.5 points

Between season tickets for my two favorite teams, subscriptions to all the various services I need to watch wrestling, YouTube TV, contributing to an RTC, tickets and hotels for the big dance, I end up spending thousands of dollars a year on wrestling, more than I do on all my other entertainment (and other things like books and education) combined. Then I sit down for 2 hours and watch a JV performance from Cornell, Ohio State, and Flo. Ultimately wondering what the hell am I doing with my life. Anyway, time to go to my BJJ class3 points

Yeah, it never made sense to me that someone who was actually affected by COVID (anyone whose fourth year of eligibility was 2020) in that they lost a chance to be crowned champ, or AA, or NQ did not get the benefit of the free year, but someone who was completely unaffected by the shutdown at the college level (2021 freshman) got an extra year. It is like they transferred Mark Hall's 4th year to Carter Starocci and they get 8 between them. Non-sensical.2 points

amusing mike blaylock story... one year not long after someone took me by the hand and explained what fargo really was, jonce and davey were training to go... im pretty sure that is the year that jonce got to "wrestle" pico... anyway... the boys and i showed up after they were done... both jonce and davey were laying there on the mat pretty wiped... walked over and started chatting with mike... i do not remember who the coach was that was running that session, but, it was somebody for real... mike was telling me i just missed how the coach took some peppers and had them rub it on their hands and then their eyes and then wrestle a match... it was either pure psycho shit or tuesday... but those were my first kind of introductions to this sport...1 point

Parity can be exciting. Even if the score is 1-1 in the third period, and it kinda sucked getting to that point, the drama has built up. Of course, the drama is mostly felt by fans of those wrestlers. Everybody else is ugh, and I get that. On another subject, I didn't provide actual brackets, and I feel bad about that, but not bad enough to tackle my laziness. Cheers!1 point

Parity for sure. But save for Ruth and the Stanford kid, we got death by a thousand yawns. Brutal.1 point

Watching it now. So moving. So … wow. God bless the coach and wife that welcomed him into their home and life. And the other families, all those that showed the best side of humanity … The humanity and love shown … wishing there was more of that in the world.1 point

That bracket (149, 2008) gets all the attention. I always thought 157 from 2009 was as good or better and most of the hype surrounding 149 was from ultimately how they developed later on and was not there before the bracket was wrestled like 133 would have been in 2020. That's 8 NCAA titles and an additional 5 finals appearances. Every wrestler at least wrestled in an NCAA final and 6/8 won it. That's mostly retrospective though. The only guy with a title at this point was Schlatter and the only one with a finals appearance was Churella who lost in the 2007 final. Ryan Lang, 2nd at 141 in 2007, was in this bracket and DNPed as well as Don Fisch (5th 141 2007). Jake Patacsil, Adam Hall, and Bryce Saddoris were also in the bracket and went on to AA later in their careers. This bracket only features three wrestlers that would ultimately win 4 NCAA titles and 4 other finals appearances. The difference is that most of that had happened before this bracket was wrestled. Gillespie had won a title at 149 in 2007 and many of those guys from 149 in 2008 were in that and Poeta and Lee were the returning finalists from the previous year. Also J.P. O'Connor placed in the 2008 149lb bracket moved up and DNP. Cyler Sanderson was a returning AA (7th 157) who DNPed. Finally Adam Hall, Jason Welch and Justin Gaethje were in the bracket too.1 point

This bracket kicks ass not just because of the bustedness of it but the schools involved as well.1 point

As of right now, there are 27 teams that have a chance at multiple All-Americans based on the average rank across Intermat, Flo, and Wrestlestat. Some of those teams are near certainties while others have a remote chance. To come up with the list I averaged everyone's rank across the three services. Then assuming ranks are equivalent to seeds (they won't be), I applied the historic seed results to determine the likelihood a given seed will AA. I have posted that likelihood graph before, but here it is again for reference. There is no surprise that PSU, Iowa and Nebraska are the top three. But Nebraska has the least room for error among the top 10 teams. Only PSU and Nebraska are expected to get more than 50% of their ranked wrestlers on the podium (71.6% and 58.7%, respectively). Purdue falls just short. Note: People always struggle with the decimals in this. What does 0.44 of a wrestler look like, they ask? Since these are probabilities the best way to think of it is the decimal represents the probability of rounding up and one minus the decimal represents the probability of rounding down. Using PSU as an example, they have a 56% probability of 6 AA's and a 44% probability of 7 AA's (that oversimplifies a bit in that it assumes those are the only two possible outcomes - they are not). I will update this when the actual NCAA seeds come out.1 point

The absolute PERFECT example of what I've come to call "The Delgado Effect." If Jesse wrestled for your team, you would've loved him to death. Super quick, supreme technician, humble, respectful and on and on. But he got picked on endlessly on themat.com because of what you see in that bracket. His chief rivals were some of the best wrestlers for schools with the largest internet presence. Nashon Garrett went to Cornell, Nico Megaludis was a Nittany Lion, and Corey Clark was a Hawkeye. And before all of that there was Matt McDonough. Crazy bracket.1 point

Will O'Toole and Mocco enter the transfer portal after this year, neither seem to be improving in the Missouri wrestling room, any chance they transfer to Wisconsin and wrestle for Bono and are closer to AWA?1 point

I always thought the guy who got screwed the most with the 19-20 mess was Matt Kolodzik from Princeton who burned his Olympic redshirt in February to help his team then got shut down when they cancelled the NCAA’s at the last minute.1 point
-
Yeah, the free Covid year was dumb the way they applied it. If they felt it was necessary it should have applied to anyone who was competing in 2020, as their NCAA tournament was canceled. They way they applied it punished any seniors in their fourth year of competition in 2020, and gave a fifth year, and thus a chance to compete at five NCAA tournaments, to anyone that did not compete in 2020 (redshirts, Oly redshirts, and 2021 freshman) but did compete the next year.1 point
-
Both Hall and Joseph (and anyone who was wrestling their senior year) used their last year of eligibility up the cancelled year. It was a ridiculous situation, but it is the truth. Massa, Amine, and Micic all were Olympic Redshirting that year otherwise they would have also been done that year too.1 point

I am ok with leaving it. This is an example of a completely civilized way to clear up an honest misunderstanding. The internet needs the example.1 point
