Took a class with Terry Davis, the author, where we studied his book. I think he’d say that Louden was a curious observer of the human condition. He found homosexuality interesting, precisely because it was so foreign to him. He was not embarrassed to discuss or acknowledge those aspects of life/wrestling, just as he was not ashamed to admit he was obsessed with vaginas/women. His grandfather was a model of masculinity, which he also felt he didn’t meet, but that whole relationship was largely ignored in the screenplay.2 points

So what? THEY ARE! They literally are...he wants to be a Gyno...which I'll grant you, a bit odd for a HS student, but not gay. Also, My GF loves watching Wrestling, she's huge FB fan, BB fan, super laid back...she's cool. She was also athlete in College. She combines the best things I like about Women(a BIG one of those is not actually having the penis and testicles and being women...by the definition we've used up until about 26 months ago) AND she's not exactly one of the guys, but that shit is always overblown anyway. Why do people need to search this shit out? Turn on literally ANY shot today and it will touch on every LGBTQ issue, drug abuse, domestic violence, white privilege, toxic "sis" males, everything. It's like a check list. They need someone for wardrobe, for continuity, for social issues of the day. Stop assigning these ridiculous meanings to past movies and or songs as well. I mean, it's not the same thing, but this is the same type of thought process that went into the ridiculous "banning" of "Baby it's Cold Outside," because it's "rape culture."2 points

In case you forgot, This thing started between us when I made posts that the food pyramid is not science and that it isn't good. Now we've got a bozo who claims I'm defending it and is now posting garbage 'noise' posts like a lunatic. How quickly an intelligent conversation can turn bad. LBJ - In all seriousness, if you ever again wonder why people can't use their intelligence to discuss and come to a mutual understanding. You're witnessing it right now.1 point
-
There is an angle to dismiss the food pyramid... but its a tad silly to defend the food pyramid against lobbyist-driven corruption by saying "its not science." "Follow the food pyramid" is a good example in today's world of "trust the science," simplified representation or not. It is lipstick on a pig.1 point

I'm not shitting on Greco. I think all Wrestling, especially at the highest levels if incredible. I just think one is less incredible...and I'd have kept that to myself if not for just obnoxious bloviating by someone...again, I hate to hammer this point, but who NEVER Wrestled! LOL...the nerve to talk shit about how superior one style is and you've NEVER competed? Yeah, I AM having a little trouble with that. Having any respect for that opinion. That's ballsy IMO. Go tell Snyder or Stevenson they're competing in the Women's style, the soft style...they're not tough because they're not Wrestling Greco! As for Rutt...he was a stud. But when you come up with examples about how GREAT and superior Greco is using the NCAAs, you need to do a little better than going back a decade for a 1X AA. I'd have gone with Schultz personally, but even then, he not only got smoked by a Freestyle Wrestler because he was just a MUCH better athlete, but HWT's is the one weight that tends to favor Greco with the handfighting and how few people like to shoot and get under a HWT. You'll still see guys like Kerkvliet, Snyder, Gwiazdowski win 9X out of 10 when matched up with a Greco guy, but Christ, it's better than having to go back to Travis Rutt to make your point.1 point

who funded the research that got the food pyramid so incredibly wrong? who benefitted most from getting the food pyramid so incredibly wrong? who continues top benefit from all of the health issues in this country from getting the food pyramid so incredibly wrong? (these are rhetorical in nature because i know it won't matter)1 point

1. Anyone that thinks wrestling is homosexual is an idiot. Wrestling teaches one to kick @$$ not........ kiss ass 2 It was the rule " jock or nothing"........ nobody had an issue of that I ever heard of.............. NEVER saw anyone try to wear underware/shorts. We also had 1/2 hr. weigh ins. Weigh in and let's go!......oh yeah weigh in drink a bunch of water. THEN let's go.1 point

Part of the problem is they didn't show a good clip of the hold. Most people, including Greg Olsen, are thinking it was the left hand on JuJu's back. But it was the right hand pulling the jersey that you can barely see right at the beginning of the relay they kept showing. Bradberry got beat on that inside out move and grabbed the jersey to show JuJu down. The jersey pulling away from the body made an easy, if unpopular, call. How much are you supposed to let a DB get away with on the most important play of the game?1 point

1. I have a problem with anybody who sees wrestling and instantly assumes there are homosexual undertones. It's a friggin contact sport and anybody who thinks that all contact between people is sexual has some serious issues. 2. You do what you have to do to make weight, nobody cares if you strip down for 30 seconds to jump on the scale. That being said, I and most other guys usually weighed in in underwear or our singlet. One time we were standing in line to weigh in and the ref insisted that we just wear a jock or nothing at all because that was in the rules. I always thought that guy was out of line.1 point

i don't disagree with any of this... i just would not necessarily define dawson as an american wrestler just because he dabbled in high school... again... have not seen the fight in question and probably won't ever... the boy and i were pretty horrified at the level of wrestling/grappling this weekend... just one night of australian fights so i get it is not 100% representative, but, it was awful overall from early prelims up until islam v volk...1 point

That's his base. Just like Madsen's base is Greco. And TBH Couture, Lindland, Sonnen have a base in scholastic wrestling. Everyone trains all the disciplines. I see a lot of guys who miss weight and lose, because they weren't working hard during camp. Paulo Cost who was about 40 lbs over when he entered the ring for the Vettori fight is an example. Dawson was a replacement, might be why he missed.1 point

I have a preview of this interesting dual up at The ILLINI Wrestling Blog and Forum and Beyond. I'm interested in hearing what Iowa State fans have to say about this match. It looks like the Cyclones have been decimated by injuries at the lower weights, but they are steel-rod-reinforced-concrete strong at the upper weights. In any event, here's a sample from the award-winning preview: 197. ZAC BRAUNAGEL (#17, 19-5) versus YONGER BASTIDA (#7, 13-2) This will be a marque matchup for the fans. The thirty-five-year-old Cuban freestyler has had a great year so far with some incredible upsets and wins. But so has Zac. Yonger got pinned by Nebraska's Silas Allred and lost a close match to Pitt's Nino Bonaccorsi. But so did Zac. Bastida is not that big for a 197er, and is very quick. But the same goes for Zac Braunagel. The key for the ILLINI is to defend the quick single from the Cuban, and either get the takedown himself in the first period, or reach the second period scoreless. The ISU kid has learned folkstyle by now--he finished fifth at the Big Dance last year--but I'd still like to see him underneath the Brawlnagel in the tie-breakers. Yonger is 3-2 against top twenty wrestlers this year with wins over Wisconsin's Braxton Amos, Oklahoma State's #19 Luke Surber, and Cornell's #17 Lewis Fernandes, as well as losses to Nino Bonaccorsi and Max Dean. Zac will need to defend Bastida's underhooks, and be ready when he selects neutral. His claw ride isn't that good yet, so Brawny should be able to escape. Can the Cyclone? PREDICTION: Tossup, slight edge to ISU. ... A DAY IN HISTORY It is Saturday, February 3, 1940. Minnesota Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton is born. Glenn Miller is high on the charts with his hit In the Mood. You still have to wait seven more days for the first-ever Tom and Jerry cartoon called Puss Gets the Boot. Gone with the Wind is still in theaters, while Pinocchio--Disney's second feature-length film--opens in a week. Russia's war with Finland is heating up; Nazis pilots sink the Norwegian ship Tempo. But in the United States, at least, good triumphs over evil as the Fighting ILLINI beat the Iowa State Cyclones in a wrestling dual by the score of 14.5 to 13.5. This is part of ILLINOIS' all-time 7-3 winning record against that dreadful team. This is what the Washington, D.C. Evening Star reported the next day:1 point

LOL...his "ultra flexes?" I don't remember that. I remember him I remember watching this movie every year with my team in HS(which...I guess is SUPER gay). See...I just thought it was a way for our coach to have a little pizza party, some team bonding and get ready for the stretch run of the season. How naïve I much have been! I'll go with the other guy. Sometimes... you spit just because you've got to spit. I...I'm not gonna take the bait on this one.1 point

I don't know exactly, but it's not an insignificant number. The last White House publicly stated 6,000(actually, 5,500 to be exact). I have several relatives who do. One who's in Naval Intelligence(and...he's pretty highly ranked) and he believes as much(though neither he nor any of the others would refer to it as a belief). That's anecdotal, but you can Google the polls. They seem to range from 38% to 45%.1 point

An awful lot to think about with retirement. Just a couple for you: * Honest question to think about. If you were able to retire at 50, what would you do with yourself? Trust me, don't just think about the times when you were on vacation and the weather was beautiful and you would have enjoyed a month or two or twenty off. Think about the times when you've had a week or two vacation and it's rained almost all of it. Think about when you have time off in the winter. I've always loved to read, work on cars, garden, etc, etc but there is something to be said for answering that alarm clock in the morning. (I know that may be hard to believe, but it's true for the most part.) * You will have very little knowledge of inflation, your particular health care costs, and many other aspects of the expenditure side of your time from 50 to whenever. You have little knowledge of how much the government will want you to make up for the last 20 or 30 years of their screwups and many years to come. I'm only sure that someone will have to pay the freight. Poor people can't and the ultra rich guys seem to have figured out a way to contribute very little. That narrows it down a lot. * You can't be sure of the rate of return of your investments not only from now till 50, but also after 50 to whenever. Last I knew you couldn't withdraw 401k monies till 59-1/2 so you would need something to live off of till then. In my opinion, it's extremely debatable if you want to withdraw from your 401k at 59-1/2 anyway. Everybody's different. My goals and wants have changed a lot in the 20 years since I was 50. My wife and I always had jobs that paid very well. We were lucky to have had many years when it was pretty easy to make 10 to 20 % per year in safe investments. We've been healthy and don't have any kids or grandkids living in our basement, lol. Most of all we were both lucky to find careers we enjoyed 95% of the time. We pretty much always lived such that we could survive on either one of our salaries. You'd be amazed how much more enjoyable jobs are if you can tell whoever you want to go *&%$ themselves if they have earned it. 98% of the time that isn't even necessary if the people who would earn it from you know you would do it. I once had a worthless, self-serving jackass make some snide remarks about my method of analyzing a system that was well beyond his comprehension. Things escalated between us. I zipped up my notecase, shook the hands of the other 4 or 5 people in the meeting, and walked out the door, leaving about $30,000 of a contract behind. It was worth it. I had another job in a week anyway. Think not only about when you think you'd like to retire. Think about what you'd like to do then. Not just some of the time, but most of the time. The toughest questions to answer aren't financial. They are about life, priorities, and such. My advice... You're a smart guy, find a job you enjoy, or at least don't mind going to. Make sure you're getting compensated commensurate with what you're bringing to the party. Don't plan so much to retire. Plan to enjoy working till retirement, and maybe beyond. Just one guy's perspective. Your mileage may vary. PS You're exactly right about the inflation. Regardless if Biden, DJT, Bobby McGee, whoever is running the country, if the government throws money at companies and individuals without them contributing goods or services (during Covid), there HAS to be inflation. More money put in circulation, less goods to buy... inflation!1 point
