It's been suggested that it's best to knock off, so I will, following a reality check and rereading the original post. I think (I'm twitter illiterate) that it included a tweet from a coach who was so bothered by the Friday match that he retweeted a clip of it and added a clip from a match from earlier in the season (Scuffle?) with the same wrestler. The earlier clip showed the wrestler in question twice using an overhook/whizzer which appeared to be applied at the elbow, not the armpit, and which appeared to, unsurprisingly, and as one can reasonably infer was intended, injure the elbow. The clip from the Friday match was longer, and, upon rewatching it, I realized, was so bizarre and unlike anything I have ever seen that, if not for the provided context, I might have thought was more likely a comedy skit designed to mock the sport than an actual college wrestling match between two legitimate division one programs. The behavior showed by a camera that doesn't blink is, to put it mildly, abnormal, and clearly designed to at first, violate the rules, and then, to injure. Which it did, it's been represented that his opponent was unable to wrestle his next match. The original poster also stated that his research showed that the wrestler in question had been DQ'ed from another tournament. The thread in response to this has produced people defending the conduct, engaging in relativism comparing it to other conduct, and generally attacking strong criticism of this categorically loathsome pattern of purposeful behavior. Having re-watched the clips this amazes me, but I've said my piece and can't see the point in lingering on this thread any longer and just hope to be able to start fresh on a different topic some other day. Good night all.4 points

UWW Page can be found here You can watch on FloWrestling here (don't forget to turn on your Rocket Mortgage ad blockers) Wednesday is MFS 57, 61, 65, 70, 74, and 86. Thursday is MFS 79, 92, 97, 125, WFS 50-55 MFS draws have come out. Brackets are linked by weight. 57kg: Zain Richards and Darian Cruz both have tough Japan matchups out the gate. Hoping for good results but also wouldn't be surprised by bbq's 61kg: Welp. That's a bracket. Thank u next. 65kg: Great bracket as a US fan and even better bracket as a global fan. Nick Lee and Sebastian Rivera + Joey McKenne and Finesilver + Destribats and Ochir to start the morning at 65. Henderson should make quarters, winner of Lee/Seabass gets Musukaev and dear god I want to see Lee just absolutely gas him SOOOO BAD. I think McKenna has a good shot at making the finals and possibly gold but he has to be on his A game. The random draw turned this bracket into an absolute meatgrinder with some good talent watching from the bleachers. 70kg: So Hidlay decided weight cutting is fun and he's coming out of retirement? Haji should take this bracket, but I expect good comp from Berger and Pantaleo on each side of the bracket. 74kg: Another US heavy bracket but overall ehhh. Nolf should take home a gold medal but looking forward to seeing Finesilver and N Kuramagomedo. 79kg: Look, sometimes international tourneys don't always get great turnouts. And sometimes you have the first Iranian to beat Jordan Burroughs. Somehow this bracket is both. 86kg: Hall/Makoev in the quarters, winner gets Yazdani in the semis. Amine and Zahid on the other semi. This bracket is much better. 92kg: I think Moore wins the whole shebang but catching Nurmagomedov first is not so fun. 97kg: Snyder wins handily. He opens against 2022 world brone Magomedov... who was teched 10-0 by Snyder at 2022 worlds. Nice to see other schools catching onto the University of Michigan exchange student program with Ben Honis competing for Italy on the top of the bracket. J'den Cox did not get a draw so going to go ahead which confirms he is not participating as previously announced. 125kg: I thought Geno was attending so that is a real bummer. Zare should handily pick up seeding points that will be very crucial for earning the easier semi at Belgrade. Zilmer will have a tough first round, and I'm optimistic that he will hit Jordan Wood in the semis.3 points

Iowa is a really bad matchup for Minnesota on paper. Especially with the way Brayton Lee is wrestling, and Iowa having the only 125 that I am confident McKee cannot beat (obviously). 125 Lee pins McKee 0-6 133 Nagao dec Teske 3-6 141 Woods dec Bergeland 3-9 149 Murin dec Blockhus 3-12 157 Siebrecht dec Lee 3-15 165 Kennedy dec Carlson 3-18 174 O’Reilly dec Brands 6-18 184 Salazar dec Assad 9-18 197 Warner dec Foy 9-21 HWT Cass maj Joles 9-25 Would love to see the gophers win at 157 but I ain’t banking on it. My unpopular pick is Salazar over Assad, but I think the other two wins are reasonable. Hope we can keep it close at 141, 149, 165 and 197. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

This isn't exactly right yet, but it gives you a general idea of the range of expected outcomes for the current top 10 teams as ranked by Intermat (but using my expected points). The expected points are the red line in the middle of the orange area for each team. The areas are based on the average plus and minus one standard deviation. And therein lies the rub. Standard deviations assume that the data is normally distributed. It is not. For example, PSU has more downside than upside, but this math treats them as equally probable. I may fix that in the future (or I may not - I am fickle that way). I just think this is more interesting because it allows every fan base to see the likely best from their team. For example, if PSU underperforms their seed it will still take an above average performance from Iowa to take the title, but it can be done. The race for second through fourth is much more up for grabs. Missouri and/or Cornell can overcome Iowa's advantage with an above average performance even if Iowa wrestles to seed. Caveat: Take it for what it is worth. A big pile of numbers, some mental masturbation, and voila. To quote my father, figures never lie, but liars always figure.2 points

Askren says there won't be a decision until after the year, I think. Writing seems to be on the wall it will be Mizzou, but we'll see.2 points

Oh and the kid is off the team if he does anything close to that again. I would have canned DeSanto, I have no patience for this kind of thing. mspart2 points

This is your other tactic where you try to nitpick or change the subject. I've seen your hot takes and they are bad. You called Spencer a future has been then jumped all over someone in this thread for calling someone out for bad sportsmanship. Go back to the freestyle forum you don't even like folkstyle.2 points

He had an overhook and tried to bend the elbow up and against the joint. He did it twice in the Chattanooga clip, you can see the Chattanooga wrestler shaking his arm out after the first time when the ref couldn't really see it and then he does it again and the match is stopped and the Chattanooga wrestler is awarded a penalty point. But Fernandes actually won this match 6-2. It doesn't appear any prior penalty points were awarded in the SDSU clip. But right in the beginning he appears to try to twist his fingers, then also of course the multitude of slaps to the head, the most egregious of which I thought was right after the restart after the ref was talking to them. Technically, I'm not sure if he was DQ'ed right away for the elbow thing. It appears as if he was penalized for an illegal move which resulted in an injury to Cook who did not continue, thus ultimately resulting in the DQ.2 points

That's an attempt to injure. I'd cut them from the team. If this someone did that to me during my career, I'd have broken his fingers.2 points

You are hiding behind a brand new username because you don't have the courage to use your real username. That shows a serious lack of not only courage, but also intelligence and creativity. You obviously aren't a particularly bright bulb. You seem fixated on the word 'assault' ... I used it as a metaphor. This would be a good chance for a dim bulb like yourself to learn something. Google it. PM me if you are still confused. I am always available to assist fellow wrestlers who want to do better for themselves.2 points

Funny you can qualify me as a "leftist" based on my two somewhat out-of-the-box suggestions on one of the dog whistles used by our political parties to separate the vast majority of the electorate for monetary gain. Oh, and probably because I communicate on this matter using words and phrases that are not in the vocabulary that has so carefully been chosen for you. As always, we've reached that magical moment when I'm accused of "questioning someone's intellect rather than addressing the issues". (Quotes for my benefit not yours.) A nickle's worth of free advice from an old man before I leave you... When you play any sport or any game, you will never be much better than, maybe, a little better than the people you play with. The same is true of being intelligent. If you want to be smart, hang around and converse with smart people. I know, what a concept. In my opinion, this board is a very good place to start/continue. There are a lot of very smart cookies on here. People whose thought process is not limited to what they've seen someone else say on TV or social media. People who know a lot more than one side of the Big Three "issues" that have been chosen for us. Don't burn any more bridges on here and you may learn something about the world. Or maybe not...1 point

You'd like to think you have wrapped up the definition of an assault rifle in a neat little bow. You haven't. I could go into all the examples of how you are wrong again but you don't care and that's fine. I don't really either. However, someone will have to, if you want laws to pass and be a permanent solution as you claim to, they're going to have to be a lot better at it than you, cause...lawyers. My suggestion would be to stop obsessing over an intimate object you can't even define and look elsewhere for a solution. Maybe even realize that the scary guns are statistically insignificant in gun violence. If you want to really stop gun violence you need to get rid of handguns (good luck with that) or find whatever this society lost because this didn't used to happen.1 point

How poorly defined is a definition that used the words it's trying to define to explain it. That's some real intellectual shit.1 point

Posting link(s) one more time for those that are on the tail end of the thread. If I'd have pulled something like this, my coach would have slapped the sh** out of me afterward. Kids are soft now, living in a world of privilege and entitlement. Not even remotely afraid of rules or coaches. I guess, maybe it's better... but, I do have my reservations from time to time. This kid being one of those times.1 point

Define assault rifle? The standard issue battle rifle is not available to the general public without ridiculous fees and administrative paperwork. You most certainly cannot go out and buy them at a local gun shop.1 point

What weapon of war that isn't banned should be. What exactly is a weapon of war? We can't have any of those things you listed, and they don't have historical use or wide use. So basically I'm saying we have pretty good laws right now but lots of state are violating rights. Many of the current laws are in clear violation, also the ATF making laws by changing interpretation is clearly illegal. The truth is they are knowingly and willingly violating the 2nd amendment and the court's will need years to work it out.1 point

First of all, he didn't use the word, I did. Second of all, this is just an absurd post. For the third of fourth time: He shouldn't be on a college wrestling mat. I have no view at all regarding him as a college student or a functioning member of society. As far as wrestling goes, the strong word I used befits the extraordinary, extreme, and indefensible conduct in question which has happened on multiple occasions. You in many, unending posts since my question, regarding whether you're comfortable with him wrestling other college students, have continued to duck this simple question, refusing to say "yes," and essentially confirming my use of the word even as you ridicule it.1 point

As all leftists think, you guys are the only ones with intellect. That's why you say smart things like speech is violence and think censorship is necessary. Dismissing an argument based on it having been said. Okay you're the smart one. What a great way to never have to address inconvenient facts.1 point
-
I have no idea about outside the mat, but as far as wrestling goes, you think this is going to work out? You're comfortable with him on the mat with kids who have put their lives into this whose safety is at risk? He came out from the outset of the match with full intent to do what he did. He's done this kind of thing before. No remorse evident -- the apology that should have been immediately issued -- where did I miss that? The suspension that should have been immediately announced -- where did I miss that?1 point

@scourge165 - I appreciate much of what you wrote. Thanks. I do recognize that the paths of people’s lives varies. When it comes down to it, I just don’t like the warping of college sports. I’m usually pretty practical about things, but I’m a bit of a purist on this. When it comes to college sports I feel that the tail is wagging the dog.1 point
