It's not the best competition so far this season, but I appreciate that Warner as a senior isn't just sitting around like he has throughout his career. Hopefully a sign that he's fully bought in for his senior year. Again, I understand it's not the highest level of competition so far, but if you've watched Warner at Iowa extensively, you're seeing a difference. Hopeful it transfers to the better opponents! Yes and it’s a good opportunity to mimic a real match. Have the guys make weight early in the season and warm up and prepare to wrestle just like it was a dual. The results of wrestle offs are not completely worthless, but they pale in comparison to results against actual competition.

I strongly suspect that any coach that ever wants to bring AJ into their program is going to face an uphill battle with their AD. Like, "Up Mount Everest" type of battle. Like Downey, this kid was long damaged by their lack of access to positive male role models. Nothing you're going to fix in a season or two.

Glory got a few duals off early in the year last season for weight management reasons , and apparently he takes a gauntlet of courses at Princeton as well , glory will start to ramp up in January probably , long season and a tough cut for him

This happens more than you probably think. A coach usually will go with the wrestler that gives the team the best shot at winning. That doesn’t always equate to who wins in your room. I know it sounds odd but when you wrestle guys for hours a day, every day, you get very familiar with each other and matches can become very tight. Wrestlers evolve and learn to shut down each other’s move and the game continues each evolving learning to overcome counters to counters and so on. Not to mention some guys just got your number and sometimes they are in the same room but overall maybe the style, competitiveness, gas tank, etc… of the guy who loses in wrestle offs will translate into more wins in regular competition. Doesn’t me this is right, wrong, or anything else, just that it is and should be the coaches decision of what is best.

I don't think they'd decide to retard the best chances for further development of either PSU's or the NLWC's athletes by burdening them with the responsibility of somehow reshaping A.J. This is consistent with another thing Cael is often heard saying, which goes something like, "It's up to each wrestler to want to become the best version of themselves. It's our job as coaches to give the all the support they need to reach their full potential and achieve the goals they set for themselves." So, no, Cael would never place such an expectation or burden on a non-coach.

The US could be strong enough domestically in Freestyle where they really don't need to at this point and it doesn't hurt them. The in room competition might be better than everyone but like three or four internationals that aren't at whatever event anyways. There is just being used to traveling and taking parts in tournaments that acclimation, but the US squad is pretty veteran and experienced. It's other styles that need out of country competition. The second best US guy at some Greco weights could be a tech loss against a non medalist from the field level.
