  1. In response to my returning points thread, someone on 34andcounting asked what kind of points could a freshman be expected to score at the NCAA Tournament. Using Willie's Big Board data I decided to take a look. One huge caveat is that the numbers below are fitted lines through some VERY noisy data. The first thing I looked at was the odds of qualifying for the tournament based on BB rank. There are 12 years worth of graduating classes in the data (2013 - 2023) that have completed true freshman and redshirt freshman years. For these calcs I am including true freshmen and redshirt freshmen for each high school graduating year. For example, for 2022 grads I include 2023 true freshmen plus 2024 redshirt freshmen. 80% of Success is Showing Up 100% of #1 Big Boarders qualified for the tournament as either a true freshman or a redshirt freshman. These are your only sure things. By the time you get to the #10 BB it is a 50/50 proposition whether they even qualify for the tournament, never mind score once they get there. No Participation Points But you can't just show up. Once a freshman makes the tournament they still need to score. Combining scoring with probability of making the tournament steepens the curve somewhat. At almost 18 points per, #1 BB can be expected to score in the high teens in their freshmen year (true or redshirt). But that is it. No other rank cracks double digits. And by the time you get to the #10 ranked freshman recruit you are looking at about 4 points. Bring in da' Noise, Bring in da' Funk That really should be Mitchell Mesenbrink's walk out music. Remember what I said about the noise in the data? Mesenbrink is the physical embodiment of that noise (and he was trained by the Master of Funk). As the #59 ranked wrestler in his class, the line above suggests he is good for about a half a point in his freshman year. Well, at 19.5 points he is what we would call an outlier. And the reason you should take this with a grain of salt.

  2. Iran is vastly different from other Islamic Middle Eastern countries being that it has the strongest and most educated secular group that is itching to rid itself from fundamentalist. If the CIA and Mossad can engineer a revolution than we should be all for it. In the meantime send the B-52's, drop the bunker busters, call it a day, and walk away. I know this is hard for many of you anti Israeli death cult supporters but there are a lot of people in the Middle East that don't want to live under fundamentalist extremism

  5. Vent=ventllator. It's a device that moves air into the lungs. Used when the lungs are unable to take in enough air on their own. ECMO=extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. It's an external device. Blood is pumped from the paitient into the ECMO machine which ooxygenates its and then pumps it back into the patient. It's like a set of external artificial lungs/heart. Could also be used if the heart is too weak to move the blood on its own.

  7. You morons DO realize I said HIS TARIFFS would cause one... and TACO Man DID what? He walked them back less than 3 days in as he caused a market crash and the 10 and 20 year yields to crash. So yeah...I'm pretty sure if he hadn't done an about face on the entire basis of his economic plan, we'd be headed off a cliff. But how genuinely stupid do you have to be to ignore the ENTIRE context of that "90 day pause?"

  8. We all know he did nothing wrong - which is why he was released shortly thereafter. That, and the fact that he was a notable figure who couldn't simply be stashed away somewhere conveniently. Just as Husker just admitted, the current administration is crooked. Their agencies round up people without warrants on a regular basis. Some are "disappeared", and nobody hears from them - just as they do in Russia and China. Others are transferred to holding facilities far from where their support system could help them. This is the type of cruel behavior that the US Constitution doesn't allow. Yet, it is exactly what the Trump administration is focused on doing - and they are accelerating this crookedness.

  9. Was it a good idea to pretend to negotiate to lure Iran into thinking there was a deal on the table just to lull them into a galsnssnes of security so Israel could offensively bomb them with our sanction and then threaten to assassinate the leader of the country? Of course, otherwise his Infallible Donaldness wouldn't have done it! Statecraft 101! War is peace! Freedom is slavery! Ignorance is strength!

  11. Our Dear Leader, and the most esteemed statesman, has let the world know that we (and he) know exactly where the leader of Iran is, but we are not going to kill him....not yet, anyway. 12. Not a stupid question. There are lots of people who have to have a lung removed for a list of different reasons (cancer, trauma, infection, birth defects, etc). You can live a semi normal life with one lung. "The average lungs can hold about 6 liters of air. Living with one lung reduces this capacity by about 30 percent. That said, 70 percent functionality is still enough to oxygenate the body properly." https://integrishealth.org/resources/on-your-health/2024/november/can-you-live-with-one-lung

  13. Mass illegal immigration is dangerous, unaffordable, and unfair to those who are going through the legal process, as well as those who are being displaced by them in the workforce. Don’t agree with it, change the law. Good luck, the consensus against you is strong.

  17. Absolutely wrong. Conservatives love the rule of law and personal freedom as outlined in the Constitution. What looks like authoritarianism to you is the government finally enforcing the law. Conservatives do not like anarchy. The issue conservatives have with communism is the lack of personal freedom and government in everything business and personal. That is borne out by the dismal record of communist governments. What you see as authoritarianism, (ICE going after illegals, Feds calling out the Nat guard for ICE riots, etc) is the government enforcing law and order. mspart

  21. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/6-times-trump-administration-clashed-opponents-court-orders/story?id=120846599 6 in here: 1) Deported 100 alleged gang members using Alien Enemies Act. Judge ordered the deportations be stopped. Order came when flight was still in the air. Trump admin first rushed the flight to try to beat the court order, then refused to turn the flight around once the order had been issued. 2) Kilmar Abrego Garcia - illegally deported despite court order (which Trump admin acknowledged) then declined to secure his release and return against the orders of the supreme court 3) Continuing to deport immigrants to third country not of their origin (El Salvador) after Judge issued a restraining order banning this practice until they had their due process right to raise concerns 4) Freezing federal funds and not dispersing to states despite clear court orders to do so 5) Blocking FEMA grants against direct court orders 6) Freezing foreign aid against direct court order

  22. 50 years old, originally from Indiana but now residing in South Florida. I've worked in athletics my whole life, in administration the past 16 years and have been coaching wrestling at the HS and college levels for the past 28 years. Next year my youngest graduates HS and will be my last year coaching. I've enjoyed every bit of it and owe a lot of my philosophy in life to the sport, as well as the ability to get through a lot of life's challenges. The biggest being the beginning of '24 when I lost my wife to cancer. It was a very rare and aggressive form that she battled with a spirit and determination that was truly awe inspiring, constantly with a smile on her face. But in the end it only took about 18 months to be too much. It was during those days of sitting next to a hospital bed or laying in our bed while she slept that I came across this board, and started posting, in a manner that probably was more of a vent for me than anything else. But from the day we got the diagnosis I made a point to choose grateful over anger, and it's still something I hang onto a year and a half later as we continue to move forward. Kayaking is probably my most enjoyable activity. Lots and lots of options here along the coast, absolutely beautiful scenery. This time next year will be interesting as for the first time in in 23 years I will be neither a school dad or a wrestling coach. I took a job with my City's athletics department about six years ago to finish out my career into retirement. Have lived in this town for 20 of those years and plan to move out of town at that time while keeping my role with the city. It's truly going to be a completely new phase. As for my principals....well......around here at the beach things have really changed. These days you look around and women are walking around exposing 95% of their bodies. I try to remain a gentleman, and only focus on the covered parts.

  23. It's the only logical explanation. A person might say that, alternatively, the whole thing was a lie and the feds story was BS, and they arrested him just to score a headline and then quietly let him go without filing charges. That person is clearly an idiot, because the more likely, and clearly 100 percent true explanation is that the governor of New York controls a federal law enforcement agency

  29. Ziegler was aware of the team selection critera criteria. Ziegler was welcome to enter the Senior US Open. Ziegler was welcome to qualify for Senior World Team Trials. Ziegler was welcome to outplace everyone ahead of him. Ziegler is not welcome to claim "moving goal posts" when a 19 year old outperformed him at a superior tournament against superior competition to select the most superior team possible.

  32. I really don't see what the guy did wrong. You need a Warrant to just take someone. Asking for the Warrant is... pretty standard. We're not just going to accept Govt' agencies coming and rounding us up now without a warrant, right? The agent saying, 'oh, we've got it.' Well...then provide it!

  34. Just watched. (spoiler) I wouldn’t say it was “very political.” Politics weren’t mentioned until the last 25 minutes or so, and only about Jordan, I don’t think there was anything about the “GOP in general.” Towards the end was definitely anti-Jordan, but it was based on the stories of the multiple wrestlers (and referee) that were interviewed. They said Hellickson had told them he would support them, but then ghosted them, and they blamed Jordan for that, since they said Jordan also called them asking them to publicly support himself. But I think the bigger “hit piece” was more against Ohio State, rightfully so. Jordan was of course also mentioned earlier in the doc, but usually in conjunction with Hellickson. There was definitely the implication earlier on that they blew off allegations at the time. Which then was contrasted to the female fencing coach actually making complaints. One thing I don’t recall reading about previously was the steroid allegations. I thought the story of Dan Ritchie, as well as the hockey player were particularly sad.

But I dug it. It was nice to see the honoring of all the soldiers of the past and to celebrate what they have done for us all….even the RedViking.
