  3. I found this study done by the NCAA on sports sponsorship and participation rates: https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/research/sportpart/2024RES_SportsSponsorshipParticipationRatesReport.pdf When viewed across all levels, D1 thru D3, wrestling has bounced back from its nadir. The number of teams bottomed out at 217 in 2010. At 275 as of 2024 the total number of teams is 27% higher than 2010. Meanwhile, the average roster size has ballooned from almost 22 in 1982 to over 32 in 2024. All Levels Are Not Equal, Though Total D1 teams has leveled off just below 80. While roster size has grown from 29 just before the worst times, to 35 in 2024. D2 is a Different Story Both the number of schools sponsoring wrestling and average roster size has grown significantly. In fact, at 73 schools sponsoring, 2024 was the highest total in the range. Similarly, average roster size was at an all time high. D3 is Another Success Story There has been a steady increase in sponsorship since 2012. And while not at 1982 D3 levels, there are more D3 schools sponsoring wrestling than either D1 or D2. That has not prevented average roster sizes from growing to all time highs either. Putting the Three Together Thanks to the strength of D2 and D3, overall participation is at its peak in the time period. D3 participation passed D1 in 2013 and has not looked back. D3 now has 35% more participants than D1. And D2 is poised to pass D1 in the next few years. At current rates that should happen in five to six years. Where Do We Rank? Kind of in the middle. Of the 29 sports listed, wrestling had the 11th most schools participating in 1982 and the 12th most now. Wrestling also had the 8th most participants, and has the 10th most now. That's right. Swimming just passed wrestling. Sorry guys. (Let us not speak of Diving). Tennis used to be the bomb, but has stood still and gotten passed by a lot of other sports. At least we are not gymnastics. Oof.

  4. I think for the sake of the earth and climate all waste should stay within the county landfill(s) in which you or business etc reside. For those who really want to help the planet make your own backyard landfill. OK for rural counties that don't have the financial means to afford equipment, labor etc then 4 contiguous counties can work together with a single landfill. Waste should not cross county much less state lines.

  7. I don't have a clue. I think it was the typical 'got to college and found out D1 wrestling was really hard' and kind of disappeared. He even lost to a couple guys at opens that he had beaten in high school (one was BAD) and it hit his confidence button real hard. Edit: It could have been academic related as well. I don't typically ever go that route, but he wasn't even enrolled this year, so it could be that. If so, that will make his next spot an easier guess, and that would be MAC.

  14. Going over the last two years Jax: Notable wins: Gross,Nashon,Davino,Cronin,Stanich,Tomasello,Deshazer,Mendoza,Raney,Lilledahl,Seidel losses: Lilledahl,Blaze,Gillman,Vargo,Mendoza,Desanto (all of these were in 2023/2024) Marcus: Notable wins: Gross,Nashon,Fix,Jax,Ramos,Davino,Megaludis,Bailey,Abbasov,Ozbek,Lilledahl,Seidel Notable losses: Gross,Palmer,Ono,Vito,Davino Bassett: Notable wins: Zepeda,Ashnault,Valencia Notable losses: Zepeda,Stanich,Kolodzik,Hosokawa Duke: Notable wins: Webster,Robideau,Miller,Lewan,Thomas,Andonian Notable losses: Pantaleo,Baitukaev Lockett: Notable wins: Sealey,Shapiro,Miller,Denny,Burton,Bouzakis Notable losses: Berger,MM,Ali Reza If you go over a 1 year sample I think Jax is the pick slightly edging out Blaze. However the Mendoza and Vargo losses ding him a lot over 2 years so I will be ruling him out although he may have the best trajectory with another year of high school. Going off the two year sample I think Blaze are both options however Duke does not have quite the same hit list and both do not really lose at their own age level. Blazes last age level loss was davino that he has avenged 3x's and Duke was like cadet trials in 2022 and Baitukaev who aged out of u20's this year. Considering overall quality of competition I am going Blaze and I will give Duke a slight edge over Jax for consistency but thats a push if anything honestly and I like Jax's ceiling the most out of all these guys but for the sake of rankings here we go. Truzzcat final ranking: 1. Blaze 2. Duke 3. Jax 4. Lockett 5. Bassett

  19. I'd throw Sakamoto in there as 125/133 backup/option. I'd guess Hughes is on the bench regardless of how you juggle it. I also don't see a world in which Merrill is at 285 but report out of HS he likes to eat and I've been wrong before. National Duals will be fun cause you will see several of the 2nd or 3rd options on the mat.

  25. You are thinking of the Owen - Not Owens - family. John Owen was a longtime coach at North Idaho. Don Owen was a longtime coach at University. Curt was at Polson I believe..then there are all the sons - like Tommy Owen. Chris Owens of Idaho is from Idaho Falls and wrestled at Oklahoma State.

  35. In South Dakota the answer is probably either Logan Storely (4xAA, 6x SD state champ, Belator interim champ) or Seth Gross (only national champion for South Dakota State). Gross is currently in ND running the Matpac wrestling program and I would love to see him move down into SD! Storely is still fighting and living in FL so that seems like a pipe dream at this point.
