Gabe Arnold gets a lot of stick on this and other forums. Some of it deserved given his penchant for calling out Starocci without backing it up (sometimes not his fault, sometimes his fault). And some of it is completely undeserved, as grown men being childish and investing way too much of their self-worth in how someone else performs at a sport. So I wanted to point out something I noticed last night. During the 197 final Arnold was waiting with the other podium finishers at 184 on the far side of the floor. Rather than hang in the designated area at the opposite side of the floor, he asked for, and was granted permission to be near the mat where the 197 final was happening so he could cheer on his teammate. No one else from any other team thought to do something like this the rest of the night (or they were denied permission if they did). To be clear, he needed to be escorted there by a credentialed worker as it was off limits for anyone without credentials. So let's give it up for Arnold being a great teammate in that moment.8 points

There are only two of us on this forum that if a person said back in October "Illinois is going to have 1 Big Ten champion, 2 finalists, and at least 8 qualifiers" that we would have nodded our head and said "Poeta 1, Jombo zero. See ya in March." This one was for him.5 points

I was imagining Jombo yelling stalling at Ayala while he was getting a good look at the ceiling of Welsh-Ryan Arena4 points

Hard to beat Steveson at number one but the 97 tournament was pretty good with Kerry McCoy, Steven Neal, and Tolly Thompson.4 points

Tommy Askey beat #2 ranked Jacori Teemer and #5 Ethan Miller (1 seed) in the same tournament and still only placed 5th. Welcome to the Big Ten tournament!3 points

hopefully for the sake of the fans, we get to see Keck v McEnelly in one semi and Plott v. Starocci in the other3 points

I say Steveson. My son was a short offensive lineman in high school, but he had a big ass and thighs allowing him to move guys around. The power comes from down low. Kerkvliet has a big ass and overpowers everyone. Well, almost everyone. Steveson has the real power down low. His ass and thighs make Kerkvliet look like a runway model. The way he effortlessly moves Kerkvliet around is amazing.3 points

Hell, I would say 60 seconds max and maybe even 30. And add in the freestyle dynamic. If you lose the challenge it is a point for the opponent. So many of these challenges are "just because I can" challenges.3 points

How am I overweighing the conference tournament in these two circumstances? Bartlett's only top 10 wins this season are Mendez and Hardy. He lost to Vombaur in his only other top 10 matchup. Hardy matches his best win, and just won the tournament that he took third place in. If Bartlett actually notched some other notable wins this season, maybe I would feel more strongly that he deserves to be the 1 despite the conference tournament. PSU's schedule is basically what you just described.. get to 15 matches and roll the dice at B10s.. they rolled the dice and Bartlett didn't get the job done.2 points

@CHROMEBIRD just wanted to be on the record to emphasize the quote "I Think" in my original post. There is some uncertainty in my statement. Don't need @Interviewed_at_Weehawken to remind me of another bad take. He just put me back in the batters box on another topic and there's a good chance I'll strikeout2 points

When a wrestler requires injury time after an exchange that ends in a potentially dangerous call, should his opponent still get choice for the restart? This heavily impacted the Dean Petersen/Caleb Smith 125lb Big10 semifinal, as Smith was able to choose bottom during SV. During the prior exchange, both wrestlers' knees were loaded against the joint during a neutral scramble. When the ref eventually called PD, Petersen immediately grabbed his knee, and appeared to be screaming in pain. I think it's at least worth the rules committee's time to review the issue.2 points

I don't care where Bartlett is seeded. I just hope ESPN goes to commercials when he wrestles and just replays his one shot per match.2 points

MM has a much better resume than Foca. Foca (16-1 with a 55% bonus rate, 0.672 RPI) has a loss to Smith and his best win is over Fishbach. MM (20-1 with a 81% bonus rate, 0.687 RPI) has a loss to CStar and wins over Ruth, Arnold, Allred, Berge, etc.2 points

Did you watch the Big 12 final? He could easily have lost but a mysterious injury timeout saved him. I was surprised the ASU coach didn't explode. If that situation had involved the Nebraska coaching committee it would have been pandemonium.2 points

Not from this forum, but I did predict this back in May before Kraisser committed: 125 - Attasuauov [Fringe NQ depending on weight] 133 - Byrd (AA [Top-4]) 141 - Pucino (NQ) 149 - Webster (AA) 157 - Scoles (NQ) 165 - Moore (NQ) 174 - Braunagel (Blood Round/AA) 184 - Ruth (AA) 197 - Braunagel (Blood Round/AA) 285 - Luffman (Blood Round/AA) I thought they'd have 9 NQ's, but not 2 finalists. Would've just thought 1.2 points

Honestly I like the international style reviews. Usually takes 30 seconds to review it twice, then a simple explanation and move on. These marathon reviews are ridiculous and I don't feel like they really get calls right by taking more time anyway.2 points
-
Some of these reviews are literally taking 25 minutes in real time, totally altering the momentum of the match and making conditioning of the wrestlers a non-factor. Why not impose a cap of 2 minutes tops for refs to view footage and unless they can make a decision the call stands as called on the mat? Even worse is when you get back to back challenges of the same sequence, which results in an absurd 40 minute delay...1 point

Strickenberger only has 2 losses at 125, he could be 2 or 3. I assume Lilledahl will be #1. He’ll probably be ranked #1 after beating the previous #1.1 point

If he wins this year I definitely think you start comparing him to Spencer. Lilledahl looks incredible on his feet. I would like to see him wrestle more on the mat with elite guys which we should see in a couple weeks. Nice win against Ramos but Ramos wrestled terrible in both his Saturday matches. If they meet again I suspect the match will be a lot more competitive. I think more talent has left 133. 133 lost fix, Vito, and RBY.1 point

Injury Default losses, not MFF. INJ DEF occurs during a match. In the case of a MFF, no match took place.1 point

In the final seconds it looked like he could have gotten away with that whizzer and instead he tried to hip over. I know he's always going for big moves, but that seemed like the time to just circle front and grab 1 and the win.1 point

A donor leg has been obtained and it is downstairs drilling now. Little is known about the mystery donor except that this leg can dead lift 337 1/2 lbs. Donor had no need of leg because he only moves in a tripod stance and didn't need it.1 point
