  1. Noah announces his medical retirement from wrestling today. Thanks for everything Noah, you’ve made Mizzou fans proud. Best of luck on your future endeavors.

  3. Actually the rule is addressed in a way that a headgear tossed toward a coaches bench, tossed to a coach or toward the edge of the mat is not a penalty.

  4. And since we are a nation of rules - the referee needs to be held accountable. We need qualitative judgments here - not a quantifiable tick box to check. Anyone who qualitatively thinks that was a throw is utilizing highly suspicious judgment.

  5. Attaching a link to one of, if not, the greatest documentaries ever made on corruption in politics. Had reservations about posting this because I'm concerned that for those who may watch it will turn into another Dems vs Rep debate. This documentary is not about that. Philadelphia was corrupt way back when the Republicans ran it up until the mid 20th century and stayed corrupted after the Dems took over. Why this documentary is so important is it shines light on political tribalism and it's dangers. Political tribalism can take on many forms. In this case, the Mayor Street vs Sam Katz election, it takes on the form of race. The tragedy is the African American community reelected a mayor who was the puppet for certain Unions that had no interest or care for them. On a side note. I believe that being non partisan takes courage. I've come to enjoy the spirited debates on this forum but all too often I've seen the dangers (on a micro level) of political tribalism that is displayed on many of the topics discussed on here. It's important that we debate and disagree but it's also just as important to be self aware/reflective and consider that we may be wrong. Cheers

  6. It hard to beat the two best wrestling movies of all time Vision quest with the best characters: Karla, Kuch, and Shute Win Win with the best wrestling scenes and the best one liner: "Whatever the ***duck** it takes." Did enjoy Foxcatcher, no mater how depressing. Still looking forward to watching Unstoppable, even though the trailers looked a bit cheesy and it sounds like the wrestling is not great (although you could say that about Vision Quest).

  8. Its a fantasy match set up by @flyingcement. The match will be held at a halfway neutral site in Dodge City, KS on February 29th. Kyle Dake will be the main ref and David Taylor the side judge.

  11. I was not a fan of what was happening on January 6th. I just didn't think it was a good look for our country. I also don't feel it was an "insurrection" and many have painted it to be. We have more privately owned firearms in this country than any nation ever has in history. I would bet that many of the unlawfully jailed "J6 insurrectionists" have their share of firearms at home. That would mean this was the worst organization for an insurrection ever, an "insurrection" where no one remembered to bring their guns. Or actually, not really an insurrection at all.

  16. The ref had a choice, but he made the wrong one. The Easton wrestler did not slam it to the floor or throw it into the crowd. It's clearly outlined below.
    1 point
  17. That was a lateral/backward pitch which means the headgear was live and still in play. Incorrect call for the ref to call the match dead.

  18. I appreciate having a diverse set of perspectives here. I just thought it was clear to me that based on both spirit and letter, that the referee made the wrong call to me. Ultimately, I suppose that each of our own opinions are less relevant than the collective. I don't have an accurate way to gauge that consensus, but if twitter reactions or reactions on this board are any indication, it would seem to be in favor of the wrestler from Easton.

  20. Wow to me I can't even begin to understand your point of view honestly. I approach the world in a much different way. No disrespect to you intended. I just deeply disagree and tend to spend a lot of my energy in this world fighting against the letter of the law mentality (in favor of spirit of the law) for the improvement of the communities of which I am a member

  21. Absolutely brutal end to the third between Young and McDougald. Two stall calls in the last 30 as McDougald just barrels forward in desperation. And then McDougald blatantly fleas the mat by kicking OB to get his foot off the mat and not even a warning issued. Edit: Wow, that felt like a real hose job against Carter Young. He was the aggressor all but the last 30 seconds in regulation, and they don't warn McDougald until well into OT.

  22. Scoreless first period brings us to a major headlock in the second by Belton. Witcraft bridges and fights hard to avoid being pinned. In the third period, Witcraft gets a headlock and his own and he sticks him! Pin by Witcraft over Belton after he was trailing 8-2

  25. I saw it last weekend. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. It didn't exactly fit the narrative of how things went, and there was a "Rudy" moment that never happened. But overall it was pretty good.

  27. If a referee makes the mistake of penalizing a wrestler for a throw when it was in fact a toss then said wrestler should be allowed to throw the ref to the mat!

  28. Referees assume both a power (very little) and a responsibility (quite a bit more). For that they deserve respect as a profession. But when we witness the abuse of that little bit of power in an egregious fashion, it is not a sign of disrespect to call out. Rather, it is an attempt to hold accountable.

  32. And none investigated, arrested, charged, jailed, convicted, etc. These "informants are criminals and members of criminal groups" did no crimes in the biggest federal crime of the past 160 years?!? What are the odds??? Really, what are the odds? . . . Bueller . . . Bueller. Do FBI get blanket immunity - like Hunter Biden - for everything they have done or may do? Or only for the things in which they are helping out the FBI? Does an informant about money laundering get immunity against insurrection? I suspect the immunity is for a narrow band of crimes and time and crimes outside of their particular expertise are still able to be prosecuted. Or were all these insurrection informants - even the 23 supposedly not on the clock?

  37. "The Nightmare Before Christmas Tournament" is a script being shopped around Hollywood. Last I heard, the names attached are Timothy Chalamet as our underdog lead, Zendaya as the quirky neighbor who believes when no one else does, The Rock as the football coach who has a DUI and as part of his community service is placed as team coach but learns all the life lessons that wrestling brings along the way, and Meryl Streep as the quick-witted team grandmother. No one has ever believed in Jimmy's wrestling ability so now he's on a mission to prove everyone wrong. The local Christmas tournament is the toughest in the area and Jimmy looks to dethrone the all-county champ. But St. Nick has other plans when Jimmy's Christmas Wish is to just be able to eat an extra bite while cutting weight. Santa's magic Christmas dust turns Jimmy's appetite into overdrive and he eats all the townsfolk's cookies and drinks too many glasses of milk that they left out for Santa as he delivers presents to all the boys and girls. Will he make weight tomorrow morning?! Check out this modern Christmas classic Tuesday... only on the CW!

  39. Catka brothers went to different schools and wrestled each other. Hunter to VT and Ryan to Virginia. The Stout brothers went to different schools. Mac to Pitt, Luke to Princeton. They are in the same weight class but have not wrestled to my knowledge. The Gioffre family has two kids at Virginia (Jack and Michael) and one at Mizzou by way of Cal Poly (Logan). Jack and Logan compete in the same weight class but have not wrestled.

  41. Well, none other than Cary Kolat recently said that studs and superstars tend to donate less to programs. The borderline guys often feel the strongest affinity for their alma maters, and are generally more grateful. He's talking college donations, but I imagine that it would be true for high school, as well. I am not opposed to reading "state champ" in a post or two, but it is nearly every post, so I think it is overblown. Hey, maybe if he were only a state runner up, he wouldn't have docked Easton that point! See how silly that is?

  43. Yeah that’s what the reviews made it seem like. How was the wrestling?
    1 point
  44. Yes I went and saw it in Tempe this past weekend. It was enjoyable but not a great movie. Too much J lo, too much adhd cam during matches. They needlessly changed a bunch of thing i beleive they had no business changing. But I live here and wrestled a year behind Anthony so unless you are an ASU fan you probably will only notice 1 or 2 of the changes. In my opinion they took a unique and interesting story and tried to turn it into every other sports movie ever.

  45. There are many matches in which the other person has more points at the end and the other guy gets his hand raised. It can happen when someone loses via Pinfellery or Injury as well. The match isn't complete until it is complete and a hand is raised. The stamp of victory is the hand raise.
