My question for Rash is: Retire to do what? As far as I can tell, his life has been devoted to wrestling since ever. He's had success since ever. And, he's still better than all but a handful of people in the world. Most importantly, it sounds like he doesn't want to hang up the boots. (This last bit is really the only thing that matters . . . unless he has obligations that wrestling would interfere with.) Imagine if my dad was convinced he had to sell his herd bc he wasn't Charlie Goodnight. Imagine if Na-Kel Smith called it quits bc he wasn't Tyshawn Jones. Or ... more to the point ... I agree with this. He has not been able to make that jump though. If he is to continue, I would think he needs to figure out how to make that jump and be the guy to beat. I think he shuts down when he hits real competition and doesn't wrestle like Daton Fix. Hence he loses the big matches. I agree that he is one of the best wrestlers of recent memory. The problem is that in today's world, that is not enough. He has not figured out how to make that jump. Perhaps with DT at OSU now, he might have mentorship that will allow that to happen. But, he should continue as long as he finds fulfillment in wrestling. He is fun to watch. mspart

The entire reason that there was a huge counter-protest to Charlottesville was that it was known to be a Neo Nazi/KKK rally-it wasn't a counter protest against keeping the statue. You don't see counter-protests like the one at Charlottesville at Trump rallies or rallies for republican politicians. You do see it whenever the KKK has public events though. There is an effort to redefine who showed up to Unite the Right at Charlottesville, but it is not disputable who organized it. They had a Tiki Torch parade where they chanted, "Jews will not replace us" over and over again. Was anybody marching in that parade while "Jews will not replace us" was being chanted somebody you would consider a "fine person" or somebody you would consider to not be a neo nazi? Or was every single person marching while that was being chanted racist? Do you think that any "fine people" were marching with tiki torches while people around them chanted, "Jews will not replace us"?

He absolutely needs to keep competing. The guy is great to have on the ladder. Fix is almost always the runner-up in pretty much every tournament that he enters, so he's an ideal alternate. If something happens with the starter and they need to put Fix in, he's very likely going to at least bring home a silver medal.

Having been through it with my kid, I would say because wrestling is more important than academia to them. Of course they are 16 and 17 year olds, so their judgement is not always state-of-the-art. Unless your goal is becoming a coach and/or world level competitor I can't really see anyone rationally choosing Rutgers over Princeton or ASU over Stanford - provided you can get in and have offers from both.

I agree with everything you are saying. People want to pay nothing in taxes but also have great roads, great schools, strong military, free healthcare, free IVF. Politicians from both political parties are willing to drive up spending/cut taxes because they know it won't be their problem, and their only goal is to get the votes of these people. You even have posters here saying on one hand they care about the national debt, but on the other the most important thing is to pay as little as possible in taxes. There is nobody trying to actually put together a responsible economic plan-it's government of handouts (No tax on tips, no tax on social security, no tax on overtime, free down payments on houses for all, free IVF for all).
