  1. My take is almost everything always goes PSU way and some of their fans (not all of them) don't seem to handle it well when it is not 100% PSU love fest in the wrestling world. In the last 6 months: Carter called out JB then didn't show up at the weight Bo talked crap before one of his fights MM was pushing the line (maybe overstepped) and JB responded. (Askren admitted MM was over the line) Carter then talked more crap about what he would do if JB pushed him (Sidenote, where was Carter this weekend? He made this exact weight in March) PSU Fans boo JB at USAW wrestling event PSU fan then heckles and talk more crap. I don't see why JB has to turn the the other cheek. He feels a certain type of way about it and has the right to say whatever and whenever he wants. PSU fans/wrestlers can be more respectful if they choose or they can deal with being called out on their behavior.

  2. It's almost as if they think they were the GOAT and all that jazz... (they aren't)... The way I see it is that Penn State has gotten so good... became the best at every aspect of the highest level of wrestling in the USA, aside for one person: Burroughs. He has owned every series against every NLWC and Penn State gent. People are 'haters' for that. Despite being the most watched and 'coached for' wrestler on the planet, JB still is the best on the planet - you can't stop him. He will win worlds.

  3. Burroughs experience is just that: his experience. There's obviously some inherent subjectivity to how each individual experiences what is happening in a situation. I do tend to agree w/ WKN that this is at least partially a Jordanesque self-motivation technique, but there also seems to be legitimately bad blood that goes back years, mostly from PSU and their alumni finally feeling like they have a leg up in this competition after years of Burroughs dominating them (and everybody). I'll say this, his perception of how he feels the fanbase treated him is likely not limited to just the OTT, but also includes that as the biggest data point; it's also where he suffered the greatest "embarrassment" of not even making it to the Best of 3, so that probably heightened how he experienced everything. The fanbase has the right to feel and act how they want, but he has a right to call them out. It's all shades of gray and opinions around "propriety." As long as nobody threatened or touched him, I have no objection to people reacting however they want to react, but we as a larger group (and Burroughs as arguably our greatest champion) have the right to criticize and mock them for the behavior.

  6. I wrestled him a lot in high school and was in his class. Did he have a strength advantage? Absolutley. Did he present unique problems? Absolutely. Are either of those things why he was an NCAA D1 champion? Absolutely not. He had the determination and attitude of a champion and he paved his way like every other champion.

  7. A damn good podcast overall. Worth getting into your rotation to simply learn about a lot of things. Just listened to an Aug 11 podcast titled “Extra: Here’s why you are not an elite athlete (update)”. A good listen. Covers a wide range of topics. Many debated here. - Talent (it exists) - early specialization (suggests not good) - so many strive yet end up worse off income wise when don’t hit it big And more - importance of mind, sacrifices. If you are a hard core sports junkie, perhaps too ‘light’ for you and perhaps topics are already well covered for you. For me, it was just right.

  8. It's the same thing he did with Charlottesville. He said there were "very fine people on both sides," when one side was composed entirely of Neo Nazis (the "unite the right" event was an alt right/neo nazi rally). In the next sentence, he says he isn't talking about the neo nazis (even though that is what that group was composed of). He has never acknowledged that statement as being wrong and to his own detriment continues to support almost anyone who supports him.

  9. Are you familiar with BLM and Antifa? Have you heard of Hillary Clinton and the Russian collusion? Are you aware that Rep. Goldman just called for Trump to be "eliminated" on national television? You are the least objective person on this message board and it isn't close.

  11. This feels like Michael Jordan-esque motivation. His commentary about Starocci's knee was a whole lot of so what. Nickal's reaction was a bunch of phony bluster. But if that is what he uses for motivation after all these years of grinding, then so be it. As for the fan part, yeah f*** that guy. As Burroughs said directly to him at the time, "what have you done?"

  12. Pretty long social media history on this guy. Trump 2016 voter who became an obsessed Ukraine nut. Another brain melted by the internet.

  13. JB was right to call it out and he earned the right. And he did it in a post-victory interview, not in a whiny social media ragebait post when he was sitting alone on the toilet. That alone gets my respect. Plus his Starocci comment was so benign, it was one thing he said in a whole sea of thoughtful commentary. From everything I can tell JB is a class act.

  14. Grounding is the only thing that needs to get ironed out. About as frequently do I see the better guy get laced to a tech at a high level as I see someone get caught and stuck in folk. I think with grounding an easy fix would be first time is an attention second is caution and 1 although I personally think grounding is a big part of the style and it's kind of interesting to watch guys who have mastered it, but I know it can be annoying to watch.

  17. Just imagine if he had no legs at all. 35 + 35 = a SEVENTY pound advantage! And no legs to shoot at! Now THAT is unfair. Don't even get me started on how unfair it'd be if he didn't have a head either.

  18. Do away with leg laces and trapped arm guts. They're match-ending and boring. Exposure points are only awarded if control is shown. Instead of standing them up after 10 seconds give the top man a minute or two to do his stuff. If the bottom wrestler gets away reward him with points. There's more improvements but these are a good start.

  19. Why does he have to discuss further with the team and those who supported him to begin with. Did they not believe he could win the spot?. "Man DT, I didn't think you were going to win, so I guess we need to discuss this further." Is anyone really going to raise their hand and say no?

  20. Here is a current example of how the MSM rolls from nbcnews.com In an interview with Newsweek in 2022, Routh said he was 56 at the time and that he was from North Carolina and had flown to Ukraine from Hawaii. He complained about U.S. leadership as it related to Ukraine and urged greater support for the country from the U.S. government. "This conflict is definitely black and white," he said. "This is about good versus evil." Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, after Trump's term in the White House. Trump has promoted a debunked conspiracy theory that Ukraine meddled in the 2016 election and has refused to say whether he wants Ukraine to win its war against Russia. He has also expressed admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin. There was no immediate indication that Trump's stance on Ukraine motivated Routh's alleged actions Sunday. So why did they include that middle paragraph (bold added) in the article? It has nothing to do with the current situation and issue. Even NBC's three points in that paragraph, when you read their other articles, are dependent on how you parse and interpret words and response and they don't include direct quote of the question. If you are critically thinking about this article and why they included the paragraph the only conclusion I come to is NBC wants all their readers to remember - Orange Man Bad!

  21. You can't seriously think that being a state champ in a weaker state isn't enough credentials to play a wrestler in a movie. You do realize the matches in the movie won't be real?

  23. People are mocking you on this thread for this comment. To spell it out: freestyle is different from folk style. Getting caught in a trap-arm gut wrench in freestyle is the same as getting cradled with an arm trapped in folk. Either you did something stupid or your opponent set you up perfectly. Either way, it's a death sentence and you earned it, knowing ahead of time that it's lights out if you get caught there. I will say that someone's comment about possibly limiting leg laces to 2 or 3 turns isn't something I love (again, if you're not a freestyler, see my first paragraph to understand)--but it's something I could stomach. Most of the time, a multiple-time leg lace is earned. However there are cases where leg laces are awkward and the only way not to get injured is to give up the 4 turns. A wrestling match shouldn't be decided based on the equivalent of being forced to tap out. It should be the move itself that causes the scoring, not the necessity of avoiding injury. Still, 95% of leg laces are earned or naively given up and deserved by both participants.

  26. Limit the number of times you can leg lace or gut someone to 2 in one sequence. That seems reasonable to me to prevent early ends of a match and keep things interesting.

Let's see what this famed law and order prosecutor from the notably tough on crime San Francisco area can do to help this unfortunate wretch who was just trying to feed his family.

  29. Reckless presumptions on your part. Jumping to conclusions. Here's a plausible unreckless take for our brethren spreadsheet experts: This guy was probably setting up his deer blind for the upcoming famous West Palm Beach Rut that happens the 3rd week of every September on that exact hole of the golf course. The secret service recklessly concluded something similar to what you concluded and violated this man's hunting rights. Sheesh, dude. Your recklessness and jumping to conclusions is slowing down the FBI and SS from finding out what happened in Pennsylvania. They certainly don't need non-experts like you getting all chesty and jumping to BASELESS conclusions with NO EVIDENCE of assassination attempts. No court in any state has concluded that any assassination attempt has taken place nor ever convicted any felons so just back off. There is only 1 felon associated with this alleged attempt and his mere existence threatens democracy. Therefore please let the people trying to prevent citizens from voting for him conclude their work in the name of democracy.

Just to be clear I have never heard of a supporter trying to murder their own nominee. Have you? Please tell me what I am missing here. Both sides have nut jobs. But only one side is trying to assassinate their opponent. Please tell me what I am missing.

  36. IIRC step outs had two purposes: 1) keep action in the center; 2) reward wrestlers who take offensive risks. The step out itself (for the most part) shows that one wrestler has forced another wrestler to go somewhere they didn't want to go.

  39. Steps outs are definitely offensive points. They aren’t takedowns and they aren’t worth as much as takedowns. But I am glad they award the guy taking an offensive attack and driving his opponent out of bounds. Using JB and Ringer as an example, JB was definitely on the attack and earned those push outs. That’s not always the case, but I think the majority of the time it is and I’m glad they award those points.

  41. A liberal's view of investing = taking money that is not theirs and giving to people who did not earn it (i.e. expensing it and not actually INVESTING it to build assets which create money/value). Investing means building roads, ports, etc. The Kam-eleon wants to "invest" in ambitions. I think my hippy aunt still has dream catchers for sale that we can rebrand as aspiration accumulators and sell to Kammy for a tidy little ambitious profits.

  42. A point if you go the whole period without getting scored on. If neither scores in a period, bring back the ball grab and use it to see who gets the point. We need to reward inactivity.
