Kerk predictably did nothing. Pat Downey actually had some pretty good outings. I really like the way they arrange criteria, with creating action as the only criteria for being awarded the round. It really makes this style much more forward moving wrestle-jitsu, takes all the boring edges out of jiu jitsu, 300% improvement over the way things have been done. I would not be surprised to see this ruleset really catching on.

I did not realize they scheduled this for the exact same weekend as ADCC’s (this weekend). Having watched the entire CJI first day on youtube for free, the product is WAY more interesting than scored no-gi. In an ideal world, they influence the UFC to start releasing scores round by round this way. Makes for a WAY more entertaining match progression. That plus the pit style is a tremendous idea for managing the boundaries. This has been very successful so far.

Strength and conditioning are obviously important in this sport. But we're so far behind in technique and the international styles rely on technique. Rules are set up to enhance technical advantages. Years ago (60s/70s?) there were 3 3 minute periods. When the Americans started to surge they cut it to 2 periods (and 1 5 for a short while). And even when our conditioning started to make a difference the Soviets seemed like they could score while tired. I don't want this to sound like American wrestlers and coaches don't know the techniques but our reliance on competing rather than training means we might know the moves but can't use them when they count.

The attempted non-insurrection credit lands firmly on Pelosi. You could also include Irving the Sergeant at Arms. You could include the mayor and some top military officers. All of them denied the proper amount of security because of bad optics. They didn't want the appearance of soldiers in adequate numbers to secure the capital because of optics. If you figure between Wyoming, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma there are approximately 100 wrestlers and only one has been dismissed from their team due to excessive alcohol consumption (this year), then his number is actually pretty spot on. I used those three for no reason at all.

The guy was not new at the olympics, he's been doing this for a while, worlds included. And he is good at is job, not everyone in the world speaks in an American dialect. He's not the decision maker, he is the one explaining the decision made, which is probably why he was getting a little frustrated with Dake acting like a child to him.

This is wishful thinking. There will be turnover, but DT is the one able to demand quality, OSU is going to be right at the top for recruiting. PSU has shown it’s better to not put up with behavior. The “this is a privilege” approach engenders the gratitude that keeps PSU at the top. If you could go back, Cael would probably take a different tack with the Alton’s. They didn’t exactly work out as recruits. Having a reputation for hitting the fizzy wheat juice and potato water has a way of limiting progress.

That's a far higher percentage than the '72 team (83% vs 60%), and even a higher percentage of gold medals (33% vs 30%), and that's with only a single Soviet bloc competitor. The '92 team had the same percentages as the '72 team, so the same comments apply. And remember we didn't even qualify 65kg in '20, so of the actual competitors, we were 5-for-5 in medals.

They’ve been a top-4 team for more than this past Olympic cycle. 2024- 1st medals/1st gold 2023- 2nd medals/1st gold 2022- 2nd in medals/tied 1st gold 2021- 4th in medals/tied 2nd gold They’ve been ahead or tied with the US, Russia, Iran multiple times. Looking at their finalists this year: Higuchi was a a former world champ/olympic silver Kiyooka beat a former world/olympic champ to make the team Takayuki is a world bronze Fumita is an Olympic silver/2x world champ Kusaka is a world bronze Fujinami is a multiple world champ Sakurai is a world champ Motoki is a world silver Kagami is a world champ All of those results are during this cycle. Only one of those moves up more than 1 spot and that’s Kusaka going from bronze to gold. In men’s wrestling they are alway really good from 74 and down. With the Olympics and less weights it makes them more likely to have a better than normal result. If you’d take off your USA glasses for a minute you’d see they have the better team this year. Hell, the best wrestler in the world (Susaki) coming in didn’t even make the finals! It could’ve been even better.
