  1. Addressing Brody Teske's #14 pre-seed at 133: Brands: "There's just funny, there's funny things that go on." Translation: I still have no idea what goes on. Brands: "The timing was right. And, you know, we are going to do what's best for our athletes first. And in my assessment, in the program's assessment, it was right to get the timing right for the wrestle off." Translation: Look, clearly I had no idea what the timing of the Big 10 seeding procedure was when I decided to do a wrestle off after the Big 10 deadline. I mean, isn't that obvious by now? Hell, I did this two years in a row. Brands: "I have already said probably more than I want to say about it." Translation: Who the hell let this guy in the press conference anyway? Brands: "And away we go." Translation: Maybe next year I can make it three in a row. What were you nerds even talking about again?

  2. I usually post my "They terk ar seeds" meme on this day, but I can actually live with the ILLINI seeds. Edmond Ruth and Tony Madrigal are your two Big Champs from ILLINOIS. The only question is whether Rocco Welsh chooses bottom. Choose your poison carefully, young Buckeye! Madrigal is the old vet who was hampered by injury all season. He's been on fire since coming back and has the talent to win. Danny Pucino with the nice bump will not have to see Jesse Mendez for an extra match. He gets Real Woods instead, and word is that Real is gassed and lying on a mat belly down somewhere right now. They did my boy Jake Harrier wrong, but Dylan D'Emilio is 2-2 against ILLINI in the past. So, that's a push. Interesting for Purdue fans--who we all hate--Hayden Copass is wrestling his first match of the season at the Big Ten Tournament. Anyway, here's that meme for any seed sufferers out there:

  3. I think conference seeds are based on conference results. They are both 8-0 in conference with 5 common opponents. Hamiti's results against those five are marginally better than Messenbrink's.

  4. Thanks for posting this. Yes, it was a "fun stroll down memory lane" for this old man. I started a wrestling club in my hometown while in college. Our club traveled and we wrestled all over the Midwest. Got to see several of the wrestlers on this list when they were in youth programs. My first year at the HS level, I started a youth program in the community. I'm proud to say that I coached 2 All Americans on this list that started in that club. It has been a joy to see the continued development of wrestling in Missouri as some of those previous wrestlers have become great coaches. When I go to the state meet, I can't help but feel I have my fingerprints on some of what I'm watching.

  5. Dan St. John .... never won a HS state title and won 2 NCAA titles Chris Pendleton.... Won one state title....not highly recruited...struggled his first year at OSU and ended up a 2x NCAA champ Idaho... never won a state title or NCAA title... but won a couple of the days here on the board. BOOM!

  7. Yes, work is impossible, that's for sure. As we know, all things just appear or are handed to us as people. That's how we got the car, the computer, the cell phone, the toaster, the hydraulic lift, the shovel, the hoe, etc. The list goes on and on. Oh wait, someone made these and had to work to provide them to other people that paid them money for their expertise in making these things. Now we were given dirt. You can do a lot with dirt but most of that involves work. mspart

  14. Right. I think for money-losing sports, collective bargaining demands would be met with "you guys lose money, so we're not in a position to throw even more money at you. We might even need to cut your sport." But for the moneymaking football and basketball programs? The players could understandably want a bigger piece of the pie. Then the downstream effects would impact sports like wrestling.

  15. It happens all the time in other sports. In track and field, many of the top athletes attend US colleges and stay here to train before competing for their "home" countries at international events. Why all the attention on a narrow nationalism (jingoism and xenophobia) and countries? We live in an increasingly globalized world where nearly everything moves across fairly porous borders: ideas, animals, consumer goods, people, air, viruses, water, technology, pollution, etc. The movement of wrestlers likely increases the level of competition and pushes the sport along to higher levels. If guys from the US (or Dagestan) can make it to the Olympics or Worlds elsewhere and win medals, then it's clear that the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th best guys here, for example, are better than the top guys at a weight in Mexico or Serbia. If you are a fan of RBY or Gomez here, why not root for them when they compete for Mexico? They aren't taking a US spot.

  21. LITERALLY ANYONE. ANYONE WHO TRANSFERS.... there's been a ton of people. Nobody cares as long as it doesn't directly hinder our advancement. We underperformed at 2 weights and the f*cking sky is falling because of Austin Gomez and Darian Cruz. Narrative: These guys stole our American training methods and sabotaged the United States by transferring to other countries and competing against us, when they should be our reps, earning Olympic Gold for the USA. (I just listened to Pyles stupid 12 minute Rant) Reality: A few American wrestlers who had little to no shot of making the American team, figured they'd roll the dice at the Pan-Am qualifier and hope they got a favorable draw and a chance to live their dream of competing in the Olympics games. (Nobody's b*tching about Shannon Hanna). Unfortunately for 2 of the wrestlers they ran into their Team USA counterparts, who have beaten them convincingly in the past. These wrestlers with 0% chance of medalling at the Olympic games, beat the guys we chose to send. WOW what an accomplishment (I applaud them personally but its not universal)........ had they lost. Had the 2 guys that defeated our reps lost or qualified on the other side of the bracket. There wouldn't be a peep from anyone. This whole Hindsight-patriot thing is the weakest form of weakness

  30. https://www.koco.com/article/nex-benedict-death-autopsy-oklahoma/46987362 Owasso police released preliminary information from a completed autopsy conducted by the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office, saying it indicated that Benedict did not die as a result of trauma. On Feb. 21, the Owasso Police Department said while the investigation continues, "preliminary information from the medical examiner’s office is that a complete autopsy was performed and indicated that the decedent did not die as a result of trauma." The official autopsy report will be released at a later date. Police added that other comments on the cause of death are pending until toxicology results and other ancillary testing results come back. To answer your first question, the complete autopsy report has not been released. But the autopsy was completed and found death due to trauma did not happen. If that is incorrect, certainly the medical examiner would have corrected the issue by saying they did not come to that conclusion. They have not. The rest of your argument is moot. You being interested notwithstanding. Your accusation is not even close which you would know if you read my earlier post. Just look up there a little ways and you'll find it. You are dead wrong about my feelings on this topic. Some poor soul died and it was not from trauma from a bathroom melee. I can be sad about the death and understand that it was not due to the fight. You should be able to do so as well. mspart

  31. Again, I am just a nobody wrestling fan so feel free to let me know where you think I went wrong. I will also add the caveat that I did this based primarily on head-to-head within the conference and the EIWA seems to have a different formula so I would not be shocked if some are drastically different but figured it would be fun anyway. EIWA Interactive Brackets Interactive Brackets: use the interactive brackets using the following letters: D, M, T, F (decision, major, tech, fall). Seed changes: You can change those seeds on the 125R, 133R, 141R, etc. sheets and it will automatically update the team predictions based off of seeds with no bonus factored in. 125 lbs. #1 Luke 39. Honestly a great program example of this overtime was Minnesota in the JRobinson era. Identifying the type of recruit who works in your system. Lots of guys from Minnesota class A(schools under 400 enrollment) have done well and AA’d or won titles. Kevin Steinhaus, Brett Pfarr, Brad Pike, Owen Elzen, Jacob Volkmann, Chad Kraft, Brad Gibson, Matt Nagel, Tyler Safratowich and Zach Sanders all made the awards stand from small town Minnesota. In addition to that you brought in Tim Hartung and Cole Konrad from Small town Wisconsin. These guys all way out performed recruiting rankings, that is if they were even ranked and many of these guys were not.
