This year I decided not to look at the rankings every week. Instead, I have looked at the Intermat rankings 5 times so far. And there have been 5 different second place teams (based on expected points). In the pre-season it was all Cornell on 56.5 points. However... By the time the season started Michigan had rallied into the second spot on 56.5 points. That did not last long. After a tough CKLV Michigan faded... And NC State rallied to second on 61.8 points. NC State could not keep the momentum... But Missouri could, and they soon took over second on 68.8 points. Alas, Missouri met the same fate of all before them and fell While Nebraska rallied into second on 62.2 points where they stand now. Notably, Iowa has not risen higher than fifth and currently sits at seventh. If only there was a savior on the horizon. On the plus side for everyone not named PSU, the expected margin of victory has been steadily shrinking. In the pre-season PSU looked to be able to allow second and third to pool their points and still win. They had an expected margin of victory of 68.7 points at that time (131% greater than second place). As of January 3, mostly due to Shayne Van Ness' injury, that expected margin of victory is down to 44 points (a mere 71% higher than second). As a reminder, to arrive at expected points I look at prior results per seed to assign probabilities to various finishes and then sum points advancement and placement points across those finishes. Expected points does not include bonus points.3 points

JB has been around forever and does good work. He's not going anywhere anytime soon. You won't get anywhere with that bullshit here. Also you've no clue what goes on in the wrestling world if you think FLO tells JB what to do. Everyone in the wrestling world agrees on 1 thing we don't want pedophiles around.3 points

It is silly to think that people truly believe that the roads are actively acting in racist manner. Also, it is naïve to believe that minority communities were not discriminated against when these roads were built. There are decisions that are made when major infrastructure are planned that benefit some communities and harm others.3 points

I would argue that Ohio State has the toughest schedule this season regardless of Hofstra, Columbia and Edinboro. PSU does what PSU does. It works fine for them, no slight there.3 points

I know I've seen it posted on forums, but don't recall a TR statement or Wrestling Bucks Tweet about Kharchla being out for the season. They also don't seem to have 165 set in stone. Either way should be a good dual with most starters going except Vito and possibly Feldman.2 points

It looks like Stanford wrestling will be safe after they move to the ACC next year. AD Bernard Muir says they've figured out a way to keep all 36 of the school's sports. As we all know, travel expenses are expected to increase several-fold following the move. For comparison's sake, UCLA projects their travel budget will nearly triple from $8M/yr in the Pac-12 to nearly $24M when they move to the B1G. Also, while Stanford's media revenue will increase from $37M in the Pac-12 to $39M in the ACC, they will only take 30% of their payouts for the first 7 years (then 70% in Year 8, 75% in Year 9, and 100% in Year 10 and beyond) as part of their deal to join the conference. From the sound of things, the Athletics Department will be tapping into Stanford's endowment to keep afloat. Hopefully there are no academic or administrative cutbacks in the near future, as fingers will likely be pointed, rightly or wrongly, at sports. https://www.sfchronicle.com/sports/college/article/stanford-athletics-acc-18555245.php2 points

This is a good thing for our sport! NCAA, ESPN extend broadcast deal 8 more years (including wrestling) "The agreement includes all 24 sports covered in ESPN's previous agreement and adds coverage of the NCAA Division I tennis championships (men's and women's) and men's gymnastics, among others. It also extends international rights to the Division I men's basketball championship." "Men's championships included in the agreement include... wrestling."2 points

Grace almost always comes at the expense of others. 20's or no he is obviously not in control of his emotions. Had something like this been on line a few years ago, it may have prevented a lehigh athlete from missing the national tournament after being kneed in the head. Hate that it had to come to this but someone should've gotten in front of this. Parents can be emotionally blind to negative aspects of a child's behavior. Seeing it as a reflection of them or their parenting, we can rationalize it away as a single occurrence. When in fact it has become a pattern we are unwilling to admit to. Like I said, tricky situation. I don't envy anyone in the position of having to address it by enacting policy or administering sanctions. We should learn from this be more open to holding and being held accountable when those under our supervision start to act out in such a way. We can do it. Kumbaya! Namaste!2 points

Keuter said months ago on Caydens Podcast he had wrestled with Ferrai a few times at Iowa and thought he was a nice guy. Couldn't believe some of the stuff he'd heard about Ferrari. Ben also comes across as one of the nicest kids you'll ever meet.2 points

I have read where the first 4 games will be played at one team's home field and this is not a bowl game. After this there are 8 teams left 4 byes and 4 winners. The Next set of games are bowl games for 1/4 and semi. So yes, they will use the bowl system to carry out the bracket. The final will be toward the end of Jan. The semi will take place 2nd weekend of Jan. From https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2023-12-03/how-12-team-college-football-playoff-will-work-teams-schedule-bids 2024 quarterfinals: Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl 2024 semifinals: Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl Fiesta Bowl | Quarterfinals Dec. 31 Peach, Rose, Sugar Bowl | Quarterfinals Jan. 1 Orange Bowl | Semifinals Jan. 9 Cotton Bowl | Semifinals Jan. 10 Atlanta, GA | National Championship Jan. 20 I understand this and the article explains qualifiers but it seems disjointed to me. Thanks for the input everyone. mspart2 points

Maybe it’s one of the keys to their success. Avoid top competition as much as possible, let the rest of the field beat each other up, then swoop in at the end and clean house2 points

Okay, so as not to start a new thread, I'll just add my two favorite athlete related obscene gestures of sporting history. This one above has garnered so much attention, and it is physically impressive, but i think it rates kind of low in the grand scheme of things. Best gesture from a losing athlete: Think this ebay listing actually has an authentic autograph? https://www.ebay.com/itm/225794695690 Awesome because he's flipping off the yankees, obviously. Best overall: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Władysław_Kozakiewicz#Olympic_gold_and_Kozakiewicz's_gesture in Poland, they apparently re-named the gesture in honor of this specific salute he gave to the russian crowd in 1980.2 points

Its particulary despicable because a lot of the personal growth in wrestling is based on the idea that as emotional and physical and intense and competitive as a wrestling match is neither guy is willing to endanger the others health to win, its a small miracle really. Being oblivious to it just means you shouldn't be wrestling.2 points

I wouldn't guess, speculate, surmise why he did it except to believe what he said in the video. Balancing life. As he said, after a while, 100% focus on wrestling is unsustainable. If DTs life is an example of of what is possible through wrestling in America... sign me up. Make him the poster child for USA Wrestling. He seems to be the most balanced multiple World/Olympic champ I have witnessed.1 point
