  1. Also Dean Hamiti was guaranteed to beat Alex Marinelli and Jesse Mendez to beat Roman Bravo Young. But in general I agree.

  4. With the World Championships wrapped up and the College season about 6 weeks away, it is time to start revving the NCAA engine a little. Let's start by looking at All-Americans. And let's get this out of the way up front. Yes, I include the top 8 seeds from the cancelled 2020 tournament. So sue me. AA Trivia There have been 190 schools with at least one All-American. A total of 5,590 All-American honors have been shared by 3,307 wrestlers (or perhaps fewer if I have some mis-spellings). In 1981 there were only 79 All-Americans as there was no 8th place awarded at 134. Oklahoma State, at 480 AA's, is a full 32.6% ahead of Iowa's 362. The longest active streak of consecutive years with at least one All-American belongs to Iowa at 52 years. The longest dry spell is Army at 15 years. They last had an AA in 2008 (Matt Kyler, 141). The Top 5 At each team's current pace (average of 2022 and 2023): Iowa will overtake Oklahoma State for the all time lead in 2057. Penn State will overtake Iowa in 2101. Cael Sanderson will be 121 years old and still wondering if Christian Pyle has a plan. AA's By Total Wrestlers with 5 AAs: 6 Wrestlers with 4 AAs: 171 Wrestlers with 3 AAs: 447 Wrestlers with 2 AAs: 852 Wrestlers with 1 AAs: 1,830 Probability of AA by Year We are used to 33 man brackets with 8 AA's per bracket (~24%), but it wasn't always that way. Using the rules that existed at the time and @Jason Bryant's participation stats by year, the most difficult year to AA was 1970 when only 15% of wrestlers earned AA status. Where the AA's Come From Not every AA was a top 8 seed to begin with. Below is the percentage of AA's by seed (left column) and broken into the seeding eras. What Is A Top 8 Seed Worth? Seven of the past nine years have been hard on Top 8 seeds. From 2014 to present, only 2017 and 2019 saw them perform above trend.

  5. I haven't been following everything that closely this summer and don't have a great grasp on who the newcomers to keep an eye on are at each weight class. So, I will take a stab at this and let you guys correct me where I'm missing things. Counting redshirt freshmen as well as true frosh here: 125) Marc-Anthony McGowan - Princeton - True Freshman. It feels like his high school career didn't exactly end with a bang, but it wasn't exactly a tragedy either. Still a high tier recruit, and even though his coach left he'll have to be thinking, I've just gotta live my life. 133) Nic Bouzakis - Ohio State - RS Freshman. I think he can beat anyone in this weight class outside of the top 2. I also think he'll take some head scratching losses--in part because he's a freshman, and in part because that's just who he is. 141) Mac Church - Virginia Tech - True Freshman. How good is this kid? I don't know much about him. He's got a great name though. Sounds more like a quarterback than a wrestler, but still cool none the less. 149) Michael Gioffre - Virginia - RS Freshman. The Lannister boy. This kid is pretty tough. Solid in all three positions. Not a ton of offensive firepower but that could come later, he looks the part. Could see him moving up into the R12 range this year. 157) Meyer Shapiro - Cornell - True Freshman. One of, if not the best, recruits of the past five years. His potential is scary, and he's already scary good. Predicting a true freshmen to compete for a title is a little silly but I think I have to do just that. AA at minimum. 165) Nick Hamilton - Virginia - RS Freshman. Had a nice redshirt season. Don't know much about him. The other possibility at this weight is Mesenbrink forcing his way into the PSU lineup. I'd guess Facundo will go, but not sure anyone knows at this point. 174) MJ Gaitan - Iowa State - RS Freshman. I gotta be honest, I've never seen him wrestle. He was a highly ranked recruit, that's about all I know. 184) Bennett Berge - SDSU - RS Freshman. Can he translate his freestyle results into folkstyle success--remains to be seen. Took a few lumps in open comp last year. I think this kid is a stud. South Dakota has quite a salty lineup this year. 197) Luke Geog - Ohio State - RS Freshman. Not sure he'll be in the lineup to start the season, but I think he'll pass up Hoffman before the year is over. Breaking into the top 8 at 197 this year looks very difficult, though. Mac Stout is another freshman to watch at this weight--I went with Geog due to their respective matches vs. Davison. 285) Dayton Pitzer - Pitt - RS Freshman. I know people would expect Feldman here, but I'm going to go Pitzer. For one, Feldman hasn't wrestled a match in over a year. And second, Pitzer made the finals at Midland as an undersized true freshman and has wins over guys like Schultz and Hillger. Who'd I miss?

  6. Using Intermat's pre-season rankings and the average placement and advancement points from the 16 seed and 33 seed eras (2014 - 2023), but without any attempt to guess at bonus points, PSU's expected score is more than double (109% higher than) the next closest rival, Cornell. This is fairly unprecedented. The only times a first place team doubled (or more) the second place team were in the late 1930's. But scoring was so different back then as to make the comparison meaningless. When the 1997 Iowa team set the team scoring mark, they "only" beat Minnesota by 50%. And the modern record for spread between first and second is 88% by the 1986 Iowa team. The scores above assume that every team will perform to the average of recent history and does not account for any over or under performance that may occur.

  8. For those interested , Bader asks Micic about a lot of this stuff on his most recent show. Micic doesn't cover if he was there at weigh-ins, but he does address everything else. Also says something to the effect of "if we were cheating, why would I get the draw that I had?"

  12. How anyone can somehow imply the administration is not clearly at fault here is crazy. If the current AD has been in the role for more than 2 years (I’m being generous) then the AD would have to be obtuse to not be aware of the issue. And if the AD did not raise holy hell to get this fixed, well, the AD carries significant blame. Does the prior AD deserve blame? Sounds like it but not sure of timing and what was attempted.

  13. He would have had 2 All Americans right around his weight to practice with during his redshirt year. Iowa State didn't have that. Combine that with Bobby coaching him.

  14. Yes, it was Oklahoma State (read the wrong column), but the 50% was accurate. Yes, Intermat does include freshman.

  16. Does anyone have any actual proof of this idea that Micic skipped the weigh-ins or are we into the full internet conspiracy stage? Have his competitors spoken out? Have coaches from other countries protested? Are we just going by "looks like..." innuendo? I find it hard to believe that a guy can skip weigh-ins for the World Championship and not have someone say something publicly.

  17. I've read what you have written throughout. It's the administrations fault. Failure to properly repair the building or provide the necessary information to the people that use the building falls on the administration alone. Yes, I know the administration has changed somewhat recently so its both their faults.

  23. Why didn't law enforcement prepare for the breach when they knew there would be more people than they could contain, and their pre-event intel included concern about some violent folks? Why did the media exaggerate and lie to inflate the thread, as Glenn Greenwald called out https://docs.house.gov/meetings/GO/GO00/20210615/112771/HHRG-117-GO00-20210615-SD006.pdf

  24. This is interesting, but wrestling is one of the easiest sports to find a practice space for. two wrestling mats rolled out takes up less space than a basketball court, and mats are pretty easy to transport given that the team can move their own stuff if necessary (back in middle school, we'd turn the cafeteria into a mat room every and then back every single day!). Not saying a temporary setup is sustainable long term, but for a season or so, not a big deal. For the sake of the student athletes, hopefully this all gets sorted out sooner rather than later.

  27. Ahhh....good ole hypocrisy in full display in this thread...first off are the people who have consistently said they are against the government bailing out big corp, but yet now are touting when that in fact happened (i.e., the car manufacturers getting bailed out)...then they are all for the union workers, yet vote for and support candidates that are going to drastically impact those same union workers in a very negative way. Can't make this stuff up...

  31. Great production values. Whoever writes his scripts definitely finished first grade. The unnamed trophy as prop in a TP commercial was the perfect choice. And they adhered to the first three rules of marketing: never show the product, rush through your pitch, speak like you have marbles in your mouth.

  33. The reason parents are acting through their legislatures is because indoctrinators have shown themselves to have no judgment and school boards have forgotten they work for the community and not for the indoctrinators. The purpose of a school board is to control the school staff. When the board mistakenly thinks it represents and protects the indoctrinators from the community instead of the other way around then it has abdicated its responsibility and higher authority - the state legislature - must be brought to bear against the school staff and administrations. This is a perfect example of the peaceful exercise of sovereign power by the citizenry. And, as has been pointed out by many but quite misunderstood by some willfully ignorant, nothing has been banned. Every publication mentioned is available through other means to those who want to read it and to show it to their children.

  37. @nhs67...you need to dress your thread with hot topic issues to gain decent conversation. Throw in hot topics like Gambling, Portal, Nil, @Ban Basketball, liberals are whiny wimps, as a defense lawyer @VakAttack only represents those that he knows are guilty and works diligently to get them off all charges, for me personally got to throw in a Cinnabon party foul, something for PSU fans so @Interviewed_at_Weehawken can get into another argument about Cael & company, and something about D11 in PA to get @flyingcementto participate. Surprised @ionel hasn't posted yet. He's our Bubbles from the Wire and appears everywhere

  42. I think Duke is 49/57 so he will find his way into that line up with no doubt. i see him as a 4 year starter as well. let's not forget, he has 2 years of high school wrestling left and the option to shirt before he straps up a PSU singlet. plenty of time for the current roster to play out, and Duke makes is debut for the 2026-27 season.

  45. Without actually diving in to it to see who will get what seed... I think the topside of will be Richards (1) vs either Fix or Lee (4/5) in the semi-finals. I have Fix or Lee winning that one. It is possible NATO gets seeded over Lee, which pushes Lee to 6th. Not sure there. I don't think Colon gets a good seed. Could be 8/9 and play spoiler to Richards. I think Garrett probably tries to go up again? Not sure. Gross is definitely in there too for a 5/6 seed (maybe ahead of Lee as well?). Richards should be the 1 either way. I think Gilman gets the 2, Suriano the 3, Fix/Lee/Gross some combo of 4/5/6 with NATO possibly being 5 ahead of Gross/Lee. So for 57 KG I have this... and it's just... bonkers... Not sure on Desanto and Garrett as far as weights... 1 - Richards 2 - Gilman 3 - Suriano 4 - Fix 5 - Desanto 6 - NATO 7 - Gross 8 - Lee 9 - Colon 10 - Comacho That is bonkers right? So I have Lee (Sorry @ILLINIWrestlingBlog) VS Fix in the topside Semifinals. I have Gilman-Suriano in the bottom QF for the right to meet Arujau. I think Arujau beats Suriano but not Gilman and I think Gilman-Suriano is a toss-up, but Gilman-Gross is also a toss-up as is Suriano-NATO. Styles make matches. Gilman destroys NATO but not Suriano and Gross is a bad matchup for Suriano, but Gilman isn't. Add in that Arujau is going to be at least a couple/few hours after weigh-ins and fresh. Either way I have Arujau VS a healthy Lee in the finals. I still have faith in Lee. If Garrett goes down then he goes in above Fix at the 4 seed. If Desanto goes up, move everyone up. My guess is Desanto goes down and Garrett goes up. Arujau, weighed in and in a best of three up against Lee? I think Arujau is just too fast and takes it. Recency bias aside... if he makes that decent well... his toughest test will be Gilman who has already had at least two (2) tough matches before he meets him. 57 KG - Arujau
