  2. School brings it. Multiple guys in Final X. Now two guys on U23 world team. Is pretty much expected to be top 10 at NCAAs every year and often gets top 5. Multiple AAs every year. Shows they help guys transition to Olympic styles. Grey and his new coaching staff, and the leaders on the team, have done well in the transition away from Koll. I’m a biased fan. I admit. But trying to be objective I’m still damn impressed.

  3. Smitty's Barn in NH is coached by former PSU starter Matt Smith, who wrestled for PSU for a short time in the early 2000s alongside his high school teammate Eric Bradley. I believe Smith placed in Midlands as a freshman, but did not finish his career at PSU. Nick Avery, who wrestled at Indiana, is one of the main coaches at MetroWest outside of Boston. Jack Conroy, who wrestled at Bucknell, coaches South Side wrestling in southern CT. I saw Steven Burrell wearing a South Side singlet in U20 finals yesterday. Two of the main coaches at DoughBoy Wrestling Club north of Boston are Edinboro All-American Dave Shunamon and Mike Marshall, who was on the team at ASU. The main guy at Empire, across the CT border in NY is John Degl, a national qualifier and Midlands placer for Iowa. I think Muzaffar Abdurakmanov may run a club too? So, although not household names, a lot of these guys did their college wrestling in some D1 rooms outside of New England.

  8. As a fan who discovered the Illini wrestling blog this past year myself, perhaps Edmond is also a reader. for example, this post https://illiniwrestling.blogspot.com/2023/03/the-illini-b1g-tournament-preview-vol-3.html?m=1 “ 165. DANNY BRAUNAGEL The ILLINI has faced injuries again this year, with the latest being a progressively larger wrap on his hand until he missed the last dual against Iowa State. The time off was likely for recuperative purposes, but I have no insider knowledge about that. ” see, if Dan’s hand was giving him trouble in recent memory, he probably wasn’t drilling his scissors motions back when he was wrestling with a wrap or tape or whatever on his hand. So a safe bet would be that Dan would choose paper or rock. If paper ties paper and paper beat rock, the value of Ruth choosing paper might be 0.75 (out of 1). Similarly, scissors vs paper (win) or rock (loss) has a ex ante value of 0.5. Rock would be the worse choice in this scenario, as the value is 0.25 (tie vs rock, loss car paper). however, Danny, an academic all-district honoree (whatever that is) So he probably KNEW that Edmond KNEW, and practiced scissors before the face off, or perhaps Dan just used his other hand. Though I wonder if Edmond knew that Dan knew about the scissors practice…however, if Dan was extra astute, he probably counted on Edmond knowing that Dan knew that Edmond knew that Dan knew about Edmonds initial strategy, and that is likely what made the difference. either way, a fun moment between teammates. both gents are among of my favorite Illini to watch wrestle. Hoping for big things from both next year, though I am kind of curious who would have won in a real match. I’d guess Edmond, but that’s based on watching them in duals during the season and the fact he’s maybe a bit bigger but I have no idea how they match up in practice, plus this was Greco, so who knows.

  9. Shush. Why do people feel a need to jump into nearly every thread and 1) make a lame attempt at being funny or 2) try to make sure their opinion is heard by all over and over and over again as if anyone gives a crap? My hypothesis - their life is deeply boring that this board is their life or they are so deeply in love with themselves that they feel they must constantly share themselves with others. Back to the above - I know the Flo guys visit the boards periodically and post here. I’m communicating with them through this board.

  11. LOL this has to be the most absurd thing I've ever read in these forums. You're alleging that Thomas freaking Gilman was SO terrified of your high-school-aged kid that he "literally" ran away to avoid having to wrestle him, then was "verbally assaulted" by your high schooler in practice for being SO afraid... and then got teched by your kid in 20 seconds? LOL oh yeah I'm sure that's the "reality"...

  14. It's been three crazy days. ILLINI fans are blessed to have large contingents wrestling Freestyle and Greco in both age divisions. That means I get to watch a lot of wrestling and have no time to add to The ILLINI Wrestling Blog and Forum and Beyond. I did manage to get one short highlight video done, and it includes that Ruth/Brawlnagel match: My research has found two previous matches between the two. At the Cadet National Duals about six years ago, Edmond won by tech fall for Team Pennsylvania. Last year at Nationals, at 79kg, Brawny won by a single point. For the folks complaining that they should've wrestled each other yesterday: Braunagel wrestled 8 matches today, while Ruth wrestled 5. They both wrestled 4 matches the day before to get to the third-place match.

  16. I think it would have been a down to the wire race that would’ve been settled with Hall Kemmerer part 3 , Shakur had beaten Warner at big 10s so those 2 guys tournaments would have played a big roll , But who knows , 133 had RBY , Seabass , Gross, Desanto who knows how that ends up , Lugo was the 1 seed but I don’t think many were predicting him to win ( he’d placed 8th once)

  24. adorable... so your first total bullshit post was just so you could write this one? if you want to have a real conversation on this forum then quit hiding behind a screen name... quit being anonymous and let's have this discussion... because i am about at the point to tell the people that are asking me privately to not make any more waves because they are concerned about even more reprisals from USAW that i just can not abide by that anymore... because until the real problems inside of USAW get talked about openly nothing will every change... so, the ball is in your court GnarlyEar... either cowboy up or kindly quit with the trite ref white knighting BS...

  26. Swing and miss… those were questions, hence the “?” But multiple times on this thread you’ve disparaged the officials, and then added in your own experience officiating. You called the US officials incompetent (again); and that US refs refuse to learn the sport. So how many of these people are there? And I believe the famous quote goes, “if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem” and it seems as though you have actively removed yourself from the solution - thus making yourself once again part of the problem.

  36. In my opinion, an actual "genius" has an area of focus where they are proven to be great. Then, likely because they focus so much of their energy there - they tend to lack skills in other areas, sometimes simple areas (like Einstein forgetting to put on his socks before his shoes.) The thing here is that Musk is no genius. Smart and weird, but not a genius by any stretch. Born and raised in Africa by a wealthy family, he was a spoiled rich kid. His success in the US is largely because he had a lot of money to invest in the ideas of geniuses and to hire even more geniuses. (Something Bill Gates has always said was the basis for his success since the 90's.) It is strange how the media portrays all of Musk's companies' successes as somehow being his ideas and his genius - when neither is even close to being true. Even more strange that US citizens believe it and idolize the guy from Africa who was born into money.

  45. Going from an illegal state to a legal state is always surprising when the smell smacks you in the face walking around. Definitely not a big fan of that especially when you're with kids. I'm all for it being legal, however as someone else stated the public consumption needs to be regulated in some fashion.
    1 point
  46. As I live in a stoner state, I can say we need some changes. 1) Too much public consumption. 2) No definitive way to determine DUI. Lots of people smoke while driving. 3) Employment based drug screening.
