  3. Exactly. You know I'm an extremely simple guy. Ultimately there is one IN bucket and one OUT bucket. The Federal government doesn't have enough coming into the IN bucket to offset the OUT bucket. The fix is more coming in or less going out, or preferably both. When it's that simple, even I can understand it. As I've said before, way more things are not understood by making them too complicated than by making them too simple. I don't think I've ever been BS'd by someone making things simpler. That's especially important to remember when dealing with any forms of government.

  4. Illinois using this past season's rosters 125- Matt Ramos 133-Michael McGee 141-Real Woods 149-Yahya Thomas 157-AOC 165-Dean Hamiti 174- Donnell Washington (lived in Indiana but went to high school in Illinois) 182-Abe Assad 197-Jacob Warner 285- Big Cass that is a pretty solid lineup!!

  6. I like your argument and wouldn't disagree if you went ZB over JW. I put Warner in the lineup based on his more extensive resume.

  7. I like Zac Braunagel's prospects in challenging for the 197 spot in this lineup. He had an identical dual meet record to Warner (9-4) this year, but a key difference is that Braunagel started every Illini dual, while Warner sat out a few (including vs Wisconsin where Iowa took a loss at 197 and had to squeak by on criteria). Zach also had a better conference dual record, and won head to head against Warner in the dual vs Iowa.

  12. Not sure if this is rhetorical but since you keep asking, there are many. Ali Reza Dabir, one of Iran's all time greats, is one. So is Golem Reza Mohammadi, another Iranian hammer. They must have about 10 senior medals between them, half gold. The great Armenian Mkrtchyan won a Jr Gold down at 46kg, Espoirs at 48 and went on to win multiple world medals. Another great, Anatoly Belaglazov won Jrs at under 50 and dang how many Sr world medals did he win? Not sure how many you want. I believe Cuban world gold medalist Garcia also had couple Jr Gold at 50kg and maybe another at an even lower weight, and Cuban Olympic medalist Monzon was Jr World gold at 46 or 50. A couple Koreans too, Kim Jon-Shin(?) won Jrs at 50kg and was a Sr. World champ the next year. A favorite of mine, Ukranian Mansurov, won Jrs at 50kg and won a couple Sr World titles. Suleman Atli, a Turk, is another recent example. I'm sure there are others. Obviously there's been some variations over the years in weights, ages and nomenclature. I'm not really following the Fix/Lee argument here and don't really care, but if the idea is 50kg is a weak weight, I would say that statistically there are/were probably fewer competitors there so that will impact its depth in relative terms, but I would have thought it pretty obvious that many 50kg (or lower) champion youths are going to naturally grow into the lightest Sr level weight class and excel there too. Which is what happens. Seems like a silly argument but whatever.

  13. ChatGPT sports lists are about as good as that Twitter account that trolls the hell out of every CFB fanbase annually. Wrestling folks revolted (predictably Karen-like) when it was posted on twitter a few months ago. These discussions are fun, though. I had to correct Ben when he was calling out the D1 win streak leaders and skipped over Gray Simons, who had "NCAA/NAIA" in my screen shot. The GOATS need not be forgotten because they competed in an era with dual affiliation and before NCAA divisions.

  23. If you’re talking about printing money to give it away then that’s inflationary; if you’re talking about income redistribution, it’s not so inflationary, they took money from one person to give some of it to another. Inflation was low and stable when biden was inaugurated. He quickly shut down the Keystone pipeline, drilling, and fracing on federal land. Congress soon imposed elevated fees on federal leases, eliminating profits to the point that investors have gone elsewhere. This had a near immediate impact on the price of everything and it’s still going up no matter what the propagandists say. Just check your grocery bills. We could, and will if the right guy gets elected, reduce inflation to manageable simply by changing our energy policy. It would also help our foreign policy by putting pressure on china and russia. But that doesn’t seem to be the plan for the current guy.

  30. Dad coach/club culture burns out and/or peaks too soon for a lot of their kids early. That isn’t just my opinion, several top coaches in the state, have told me thats what they think. One even flat out said they don’t like the way it is but they put up with it to “acquire” the talent to win

  32. Yeah, that is true. Crescent Valley HS in Corvallis, OR could honestly field a decent lineup by themselves in the next year or so. 125: 133: Gabe Whisenhunt (Oregon State) 141: Hunter Eveland (Oregon State) or DJ Gillett (Oregon St commit) 149: Chance Lamer (Michigan/Cal Poly) 157: 165: Brawley Lamer (Cal Poly) 174: James Rowley (Wisconsin/Purdue) or Dash Lamer (Cal Poly) or Legend Lamer (Cal Poly), Jackson Rosado (was at Campbell, but may be done wrestling now) 184: Santos Cantu (Indiana) or someone bumps from 174 197/285: Hayden Walters (Michigan commit) 197/285: Hayden Walters (Michigan commit)

  34. Would have been hilarious to troll Zahid by declining the 86kg Final X berth and showing up at WTT to compete for the 92 spot. And given the results, I'm kind of surprised that gameplan wasn't at least tossed out in a half-hearted "get a feel for the room" comment.
    1 point
  35. This is a rather piss-poor take. When entering the US Open he knew that winning meant he could not go to 92 KG or make a go for that spot if he earned a chance at Final X. It specifically state(s/d) it in the registration. Those who accepted Final X bids before the US Open or after winning it were not allowed to enter WTT at an attempt to earn another spot. Even disregarding all of this, he knew DT was the guy waiting for him. Being able to get a feel for him in an actual competition setting might be better for him than going 92 KG. In short... he didn't earn the shot at Zahid for the 92 KG spot. He has never wrestled 92 KG and there is an entire ladder of people ahead of him at 92 KG. Zahid did earn the shot at 92 KG for Final X by actually wrestling 92 KG at the WTT. It might not seem fair. It is fair per the rules, which everyone knew or knows. If they don't it isn't on USA Wrestling to explain in layman's terms. The information and criteria have been out for a while.

  44. UNT is positioned best for starting a program in Texas, because… - it’s not associated with the UT system - proximity to Allen, Martin & other top schools in the state, as well as less than an hour from OK and 5 hrs from the panhandle (lots of tough kids) - cheaper than UT, A&M, Tech and the private schools (SMU, TCU, Rice) - they do have a club team, though Andre Metzger is not exactly someone you want as the face of an NCAA program. Not a bad guy, just off his rocker - it’s a growing school, and Denton Co is exploding as well - Denton ISD does NOT have wrestling in any of their schools, which could hurt (lack of local interest), and no real club presence. It’s not a popular sport in the city of Denton

  48. Restricting it to transfers that happened this off-season. Last season Real Woods won biggest impact...transferred from Stanford to Iowa and became the best wrestler on a team that included Spencer Lee. Nominees: Victor Voinovich (Iowa) Shane Griffith (Mich) Chris Cannon (Mich) Michael DeAugstino (Mich) Lucas Davison (Mich) Yaraslau Slavikouski (Rutgers) Aaron Nagao (Penn State) Seth Nevills (Maryland) Mitchell Mesenbrink (Penn State) Bernie Truax (Penn State) My pick is Griffith, I see him getting back to the top of the podium in the Michigan room.
