  1. They have a pair of Illinois studs coming in the next two years. Justin Wardlow at 165 next season and Caleb Noble (125) the year after.
  2. The best team I recall watching in the last 25 years in the state of Illinois is the 2019-20 Montini Catholic squad. They qualified all 14 weights at state; nine in the semi finals; five state champs (tied state record,) and placed 11 out of 14 weights with everyone only losing to a medalist. They were just as dominate as a dual team outscoring their four opponents 227-31 in the dual team state tournament including a 37-9 thrashing of tenth in the nation Chicago Mt. Carmel. Not to mention the following stretch of duals to finish 21-0 in the regular season. 12/31 Buchanan, CA W 26 24 12/31 Gilroy, CA W 45 24 1/9 Aurora (Marmion Academy) W 53 15 1/11 Detroit (Central Catholic), MI W 32 31 1/11 Davison, MI W 42 19 1/11 Brighton, MI W 47 12 1/15 DeKalb W 62 3 1/18 Oak Park (O.P.-River Forest) W 55 9 1/18 Broken Arrow, OK W 46 18 2/18 Lake Highland Prep, FL W 33 17 Just an incredible amount of D1 talent on this roster: 106 Joe Fernau 10 34-9 1st 113 Nick Gonzalez 11 37-13 3rd 120 Nain Vazquez 11 36-13 4th 126 Dylan Ragusin 12 41-3 1st 132 Ethan Stiles 9 27-11 3rd 138 Braden Stauffenberg 10 32-18 6th 145 Fidel Mayora 12 42-6 3rd 152 Joe Roberts 12 39-5 1st 160 Brayden Thompson 9 37-11 3rd 170 Cooper Wettig 10 29-11 1-2 DNP (lost to 3rd and 4th) 182 Trevor Swier 12 40-6 1st 195 Nathan Wemstrom 10 17-16 1-2 DNP (lost to the 2nd and 3rd) 220 Josh LaBarbera 12 38-8 1st 285 Colin Baker 33-19 1-2 DNP (lost to 3rd and 6th)
  3. I believe Brill went to Northwestern after high school.
  4. I recently had a family member get caught up in this exact same scenario. All moral judgements and ethical questions aside, KS is going to end up registering on a list that will more than likely prevent him from being around a lot if places. I would imagine clinics, schools, and you tournaments are out of the equation. Depending on what USA wrestling decides to do he may not be able to compete at SR level events. Is there any precedent for this scenario? How does NLWC respond? Effectively, he has torpedoed his wrestling career for the foreseeable future unless he has some Cornell level lawyers in his back pocket. Truly a disappointing development.
  5. Ten weights in close proximity to the college weights all I ask.
  6. JB's commentary on the cold spray is legendary
  7. I think he did. he took his shoes off much faster, said a prayer, stood up and backed up a few steps giving Akgul center mat. At the end of the day its Lazarev's moment too; he shouldn't have to sacrifice his oppertunity to end his career on his own terms
  8. Zhamalov’s run just doesnt pass the smell test. sus af
  9. Enjoy this fellas; i truly believe this is Dake's last match.
  10. Looks like Izzy brought his own gold medal!
  11. looked like he was sucking air pretty hard after the break, but overall our gas tanks seemed to be more shallow than what ive been used to seeing us against the world
  12. the mens team's conditioning is trash
  13. Gable was awesome with his down blocking, running the hip, re attack were insane. His offense was would class eltie. Its the most frustrating thing about Gable is we will never know how high ceiling was going to be. What if he committed to his nutrition and training?
  14. In short i agree with you. I would love to think a Gable loss here would motivate him to go absolutely all in with his training and make some adjustments, but ultimately I dont think he would be able to match Zare's toughness.
  15. Zare and Gable would have been storied rivalry. What fun that could have been us fans.
  16. tons of credit to Japan for having great tactics. They obviously knew they could get to the low single, and then defended the chest wrap fantastically.
  17. He looked like he wanted to wrestle a folkstyle match. He gassed himself with all of those straight on shot attempts. When are we going to learn that shot volume doesn't mean shit at this level and controlling center is everything? Our young buck's inexperience is really showing this week.
  18. I'm home on workman's comp after tearing my calf the second to last practice of the year so i didn't have to justify taking off work to the wife this year!
  19. I have many times. He has been the official during many lower level events I've coached in the past. I have also had extended conversations with him while he was recording matches at the state tournament. I cant even begin to explain how filthy i feel knowing i was standing next to this animal as he had his camera rolling. Like most monsters in the world i never suspected a thing and was actually grateful we had somebody in the community recording and uploading so much footage. he was an (awful) IHSA ref for a few years. I never saw him work anything higher than freshmen or jv. I do remember he was pretty bad and did not have a great handle on the rules. In fact, i knew if i took him to the table to ask for clarification of a call he would falter pretty badly.
  20. The freshmen coach when I entered high school was named Matt Fish. I razzed him relentlessly about it before I was moved up to varsity practice a few weeks into the season.
  21. I don't give a damn if he grew up in New Mexico; Real Woods lived and wrestled all four years in Illinois. He belongs to us! Conversely DJ Shannon wrestled in Missouri during high school I do not claim him.
  22. Oh dang I totally forgot about him! The Illinois line up just got a lot more fun to watch!
  23. I understood this as an all star lineup based on current athletes and not an all time line up. I reckon if it is the latter then everyone's list will look a bit different.
  24. I like your argument and wouldn't disagree if you went ZB over JW. I put Warner in the lineup based on his more extensive resume.
