  1. What an old school throw back. Felt like I was watching a post match interview from the 1970's. He looks like he can go back to working in the steel mill next week a champion. Good stuff.

  3. I have heard that Anthony has had a few gun issues, but not shooting up someone's house or killing their dog. On the dumb side for even a Ferrari, Anthony did go get a tattoo that covers his back from shoulder to shoulder that spells out Ferrari with using guns to replace the r's and that was done after all the rumors and allegations. It is character moves and I will do what I want because I'm a Ferrari is what concerns me They can wrestle though and sometimes Coaches believe what they want to when it comes to recruits. Coaches are in the business of helping people. That is what coaches do, so for the Iowa staff to think they can help Anthony reach his dreams of winning NCAA Titles, that is what they believe they can do. Plus I have not heard anything about AJ going to IA yet. I'm sure that is the plan, because this family does not do anything without each other, but I still have not heard a AJ announcement, besides them promoting that news is coming. Do I think this will workout for IA with the Ferrari family? Absolutely not! You are getting Fiero's and not Ferrari's when it comes to this deal. I have nothing against them. They have never done anything to me or my family. I have just been around them enough over the last 10 years to know that they can blow up a situation really quickly and it has never worked out the way they have wanted it to and so they pack up and move on.

  5. Those first two throws deserve more props than they're getting here. Both were nasty. The second one, I don't think I've seen one quite like it before. I have no idea how he was able to elevate him like that.

  10. Ramos did match up well with Lee, but a big part of that is his preparation and game planning. Ramos talked about how Spencer lived in his head every day and how much time he and his coaches spent watching tape and working through situational strategies. Similarly, Brands and the coaches deserve some of the blame for not game planning for Ramos and giving Lee the best chance at winning. We are talking about a kid who took Spencer down multiple times before and even got swipes. That was lazy coaching to not be ready, especially if they knew Spencer was wrestling with an injury.

  11. If nobody finishes undefeated with at least a dozen pins, they should award no one. I guarantee the following year guys will get after it.

  12. The thing that kills me is how they keep calling it the Hodge Award criteria when they are actually just loose guidelines. The voters haven't strictly followed the criteria for years, they're more like suggestions. If the award was actually based on a series of defined criteria and metrics then Hodge winners could be easily determined by an algorithm (not that I want to go there) rather than the subjective whims of the voters.

  13. Maybe there will be 5 Hodge winners this year, we had 2 so ...

  14. First the Hodge gives out 2 trophys in the same year and now all 10 champs are finalist?!?! Hodge is getting softer. What's next, a non champ gets nominated? I mean Carr was 2-1 vs O'Toole, you could argue he a better year. ONLY KIDDING. (But I do think the 10 finalist is dumb).

  18. It's not easy to find good statistics for wrestling, no matter how well resourced the school is. I agree that not giving up a takedown is impressive. DI wrestlers are good, even the bad ones. The competition level matters, of course, but it's still something noteworthy in the era of caution takedowns and leg diving.

  20. I’m obviously biased, but I don’t know man. I’ve been in a college wrestling room and I can tell you right now it’s hard. It’s so hard to be your best in every match every year. I agree 157 wasn’t a juggernaut of a weight class, but not giving up a regular season takedown is absurd. You have to be perfect constantly against the best of the best that have a chance to be a starter at the next level. Based on what you’re saying, it would make sense for Alirez also not to surrender a takedown this year, which didn’t happen. That’s a very very difficult feat to accomplish.

  22. 1 – Record - if you lost, you are behind Alirez 2 – Dominance/Bonus-Point Percentage - Of the unbeatens, Alirez bonus percentage probably statistically equivalent to the top undefeated. 3 – Quality of Competition - Alirez beat everyone he faced, need i say more. But most important, he beat the Million Dollar Transfer Man. 4 – Sportsmanship - This is the most subjective, but c'mon, Alirez is a nice guy to boot.

  24. Parris probably wrestled the toughest competition of all the candidates. Heavyweight was loaded with guys with world-level accomplishments and Parris beat damn near all of them this year. He also wrestled 33 matches this year, more than any other finalist, and had 11 pins, which leads the finalists. Base off of the stated criteria, the only other candidate with a case is Starocci. 1 – Record - if you lost, you are behind Parris here (Vito, Yanni, KOT, Brooks) 2 – Dominance/Bonus-Point Percentage - Of the unbeatens, only Starocci, Alirez and AOC have a better bonus percentage than Parris. Brooks (67 v 64) is the only wrestler with a loss that tops Parris in percentage. None have as many pins. 3 – Quality of Competition - Parris won 10 matches this year against the top eight finishers. There were four world champs and six world medalists at his weight. 4 – Sportsmanship - This is the most subjective, but c'mon, Parris is a nice guy to boot.

  26. 70% bonus is very good. Only Alirez had a higher percentage. And AOC is a 2x champ. I think the only knock on him was that 157 was not a particularly "hard" weight as the #2 seed was a true freshman who wasn't even the definite starter on his team until midway through the season.

  30. OSU Buckeyes Projected ninth, finished fourth. Lost their 125 a week before NCAA. Lose Smith 174, Romero 184, Orndorff 285. Recruits - 125 Kilkeary, 141/149 Herman, 165/174 Welsh, 174/184 Rogotzke 125 - Gonzales/McCrone/Kilkeary - 133 - Mendez/Bouzakis - Talk of a RS for Mendez? 141 - D’Emilio/Decatur - Talk of D'Emilio at 149? 149 - Sasso - Talk of him at 157? 157 - Paddy/Wilcox - Someone gets left out between Paddy, Wilcox and Hepner. 165 - Hepner - Someone gets left out. 174 - Kharch - Appears tired. Hopefully the move helps him. 184 - Shumate - This will be his chance with Welsh and Rogotzke coming. 197 - Hoffman/Geog/Stein - I want Geog. 285 - Feldman - Hopefully he's healthy and puts on some weight.

  35. Also, Hawks and Surtin improved by leaps and bounds this year and won multiple matches at natties. They'll both be potential AA's next year. Edmond who qualified at 149 in 2022 will fill in nicely at 141 for Hart. Whoever gets the 133 spot (Crawford or Seltzer?) will perform as well as Brown did (2 and que at natties). 157 will be a question mark, but after watching Jacques lose in OT seemingly every week, it will definitely be less exhausting to watch. The Tigers were 1 spot shy of trophying this year. Anything less would be a letdown next season.

  36. Mizzou is trending up. A very good tournament for the Tigers, who will return 5 AA's and a National Champ next season. The tournament will be held in Missouri, which is sure to be a boost for the Tigers.

  37. My take from the interview was that he's leaning toward not wrestling in college next year but was too exhausted to be sure and needs to think about it. What a treasure he is regardless of what he chooses. Not trite to say he's a credit to the sport.

  39. I have no dog in this fight but NB bothers to tweet that he is a buckeye but fails to mention the future. He could be a hawkeye next month and his tweet was still true. I would more question how iowa thinks they are going to catch psu bringing in a mid tier criminal and a couple of round of 12 type transfers. AJ i get, but the other three names they are trying to dunk with are the very level of guys that have left them excited for 2/nd. If you are going to beat PSU go after Vito and Ramos.

  43. My thought was wow, Mastro seems like a terrible teammate and I would not blame Anthony for being enraged if Masto did in fact sleep with Anthony's girlfriend and his sister. The whole situation just seems like an absolute mess and it is no wonder why John Smith will not speak about Ferrari or Mastro and is fed up with the whole situation. Is Anthony's court case even related to the situation with Mastro or is it something different altogether? Nope. It honestly grosses me out reading the whole thing. Seems like a bunch of dudes with zero moral compass.

  46. A caller talked about it on the show. After the caller they talked about Spencer's loss then went into his mom's reaction. It then turned to the fact that everyone has "lost it" over much less. Each one of the Danettes shared when they totally lost it over something.... wall paper that wouldn't go on right... a messed up food order...etc. It was pretty funny. They talked about how it was more about her kid than his loss and they could understand her reaction, because hey had lost it over way more dumb stuff. Probably a better take in some regards than the wrestling community. It was in the last hour on the show. I was listening to it live as I drove.

  47. The thing that stands out in this pic are the cowboy hats. Do OSU fans show up dressed as their mascot? Also, there’s a guy 6 rows behind and a couple seats to the right of Trump who didn’t get the memo on how to do the wave (or got a very outdated memo).

  48. Right. The RECRUITS that go there. Bringing in a 6th year guy for one year after a Freshmen...who DID have a very good Freshmen year isn't a great precedent. And Nevills got beaten out by a guy who'll use up all of his eligibility at PSU. Beard to a guy who at least had two years left. Facundo isn't Gary Steen and Griffith, as impressive as he is, scored 11 points this year. Now if Starocci were to go up along with Brooks, then I'd say it makes sense. Otherwise, I don't. It seems like it'd be more to keep him away from other teams than to improve your own at that point.
