  1. Well, I'm 58 with no speed, skills, discipline, or flexibility. My eligibility is exhausted, and while I think it would be cruel to force others to seem me in a singlet, I really want this. Oh wait, I just read past the topic title. Never mind. And if my wife asks, I was never here.

  2. Kyle Burwickk, now just here me out...this explanation is going to take about 30 pages.

  6. If you've never been beaten by Yianni Diakomihalis or Spencer Lee, and you like piña coladas and aren't much into health food, you're in. Meet me at a bar called O'Malley's where we'll plan your escape, takedown and pinfalls. But when you get to the bar, you will be shocked to find out that I am your wife!

  7. You mean Monday's *two* losses were to now-EIWA Champion Ramirez. No way Monday gets seeded above Ramirez.

  8. I like the ones you mentioned. Also always liked Edinboro:

  9. I didn't look at the bracket and wrestlestat has the matches in reverse order. i was shocked that he went to SV against Lewan after getting pinned in :38. Reversing the order and assuming an injury the results make a lot more sense.

  10. 141 Joey Olivieri of Rutgers has wins over auto qualifiers: Dylan D'Emilio (Ohio State) Kal Miller (Maryland) Carmen Ferrante (Penn)

  11. Connor McGonagle, 133. Blew out his knee in the first minute of his EIWA QF. Admittedly, he likely won't be able to compete at NCAA... but at least give the guy the honor of being recognized as a National Qualifier and then flip the spot to an alternate.

  12. ...the match where Hardy didn't score any offensive points and chose neutral to avoid going on bottom? Yes, yes I can. Plus Hardy is going to be coming in as like 4 or 5 seed, which means he'll have to beat the 4 or the 5, plus Allirez to get to the finals. I think Alirez is a TERRIBLE matchup for Hardy, but we'll see. I don't consider a @jajensen09a douche. I think he's an insane person, and this thread is very clearly directed at him.

  14. DeAuggie taking out Ramos. Gomez losing (not a big surprise given his condition) Biggest upset of them all: #1 seed Ungar dropping a close 2-0 decision to the unheralded Patrick Glory

  15. What wrestler on your favorite team deserves an At-Large bid? Why do you say that? I hope that Pirate shows up with his "numbers" and "science" and "facts" and "logic" like he has in the past, but until then, who ya got? I'll go first. Danny Pucino, 141, University of ILLINOIS. Before the B1G tournament, he had a 13-7 record against D1 competition. He was #24 in both the RPI and Coaches' Poll. Solidly within the benchmarks. He's Italian. He has beaten the following wrestlers already in the field: Northwestern's Frankie Tal-Shahar (5th BTT), Purdue's Parker Filius (4th BTT), and Kal Miller of Maryland (9th BTT). Additionally, he beat Javion Jones of NIU (3rd MAC) head to head, and Jones will be in the 141 at large pool. This was by a solid 4-1 score. Six of his nine losses are to wrestlers who are currently top twelve in the weight at wrestlestat.com. His two worst losses are to fellows who won auto bids to the NCAA Tournament (Miller, 9th at BTT; Zargo, 7th at BTT). His drawback is not placing in the BTT in the spot right after the auto qualifier (10th).

  16. Who are the oldest wresters in recent memory to AA? I figure someone here must know this. I'll be rooting for Micky "Old Man Strength" Phillippi to get past R12 at Nationals and AA this year. He was born in April 1997 and will be a few weeks short of his 26th birthday. Not that it's a given, but I would like to see it happen. Has there been anyone older on the podium?

  18. Penn u 149 Doug Zapf I think spelled wrong. But losing to Chappel i immediately thought hes out. I thought had pretty good year to earn out large bid. No skin in game. From Chappel school district so was following.

  19. I've never heard it called a "head grinder" before. Always been coffee grinder to me. Also never heard it called a Gizoni. I can't tell how serious the OP is being. I don't think Shane Sparks is "ridiculing" anyone. I think he's made a couple of jokes and they have a good rapport with each other, a lot of mutual respect(though moreso from Shane to Gibbons). I would not question Gibbons, but...you know how this stuff is. It's regional. It's also not something I really pay much attention to. Gibbons does a great job of breaking down Wrestling in a way that you can understand even if you're not a Wrestler. Talking about just the head position, the hand fighting, back pressure, position in scrambles, "whoever can get their head up here is gonna win this position." It's really an awesome duo. And then with Tim Johnson, even better.

  20. Charlie Jones - In the Air Force for 6 years.... went to Purdue and won the NCAA title at 167 in 1992 I believe. His son, Charlie Jones was a second team all-american in football this year (at Purdue).

  25. This rule is, by definition, amorphous and up to interpretation. Unless you have a vested interest in the party getting taken down, we should all want that Robb-Haines situation to be called a TD. I hate to side with the pastry, but his example is a solid one: if Robb grabs both ankles and Haines falls on his butt and they slide out of bounds, that would be called a TD. This is even more clear control than that. I clearly have no vested interest, I have no love for Penn State and half of my posts now are in response to some goof telling me I'm a dumb shit for saying Iowa is better than Nebraska as they have no beaten them by 28 in their head to head dual and 30 in this tournament. This is not a "bad rule, correct call" situation since the rule is, inherently, not bright line; it's subjective.

  27. I think the PA guys are helping to evolve the Iowa Style of wrestling. Arguably guys like Kemerer, ADS, Murin have changed the way Iowa wrestles through scramble situations while also adding to their own forward motion offensive style. But it is strange to see the Hawkeye faithful cheer on a funky funk guy like Siebrecht, who wrestles much more like a PSU guy than Iowa. Put him in any other color singlet and he would get booed out of CHA. On the other hand PSU has Max Dean who looks like he came right out of the Hawkeye wrestling room.

  29. Brendan Furman, Cornell. - Finished 7th in a 6-bid conference. - Wins over fellow at-large pool members Stefanik and Knighton-Ward. - 0-8 against AQ's, so no signature wins BUT 9-0 against the rest, so no bad losses. - Currently 34 on the wrestlestat RPI, but that's an approximation so he could be top 33 for consideration purposes. - 30-33 of the pre-tournament CR had losing records at their conference tournaments, so Furman could get into the CR for consideration purposes. - Qualified for the 2020 tournament before the pandemic stole his trip. - Injury replacement for a 2022 R12 (Fernandes) which kept him from building up his resume at, say, the Binghamton Open or the wrestlebacks at CKLV. - the MAC guys in the at-large pool only beat each other for semi-quality wins and have bad out of conference losses - I want this for him

  30. Orine looks nasty. Kaylor over Courtney at 125 by tiebreaker; he was 0-3 against him. Nagao over Byrd and Mendez! Ragusin over Cannon and Mendez. Cannon over Mendez. Big 10 at 133 and 125 is stacked! Chumbley over Coleman, Siebrecht. Paniro Johnson over Mauller Hillger over Davison

  31. So you are saying a good referee would ignore the clear written rule on the definition of control, and use his "common sense" instead? I don't see any downside here at all.

  33. Ohhh the big idiot for starting this. Nebraska has a shot at 5 finalists!!! Iowa isn't close to that! Cronin, hardy, Robb, labbs and Allred. Iowa doesn't have close to that!!! Those weak bums looking like only 3 aas!!! Wrestling has passed you up iowa!! Keep up chumps!

  34. You have to establish control before you lose control. There has to be control beyond reaction time to establish control. That sequence all happened in less than one second which is proven by the clock. No reaction time before being out of bounds...no control, therefore no TD.

  35. OHIO STATE guys (stolen from OSU site).... Hoffman wins over NCAA qualfiers this year (3)- Cam Caffey, Andy Smith, Evan Bockman Hoffman also has a win over Nick Willham who is currently sitting on the cut line for allocation at 10 for Big Ten's at 197 (9). Hoffman's coaches ranking before Big Ten's was 14. Intermat 19. Flo 14. RPI 18. Wrestlestat 23 (updated). Returning AA Is German American. 36. A screenshot of his feet after he rocks back in bounds is NOT evidence of a takedown. If he left the cylinder and then came back in, they are OOB, Jimmy. Now, am I saying the refs got it right? No. But that's a pretty piss poor attempt on your part.

  37. Chance Rich 1. He had to MedFFT - that should count for something - it does in the Big10. We can't change the rules now. 2. He wrestles for Bakersfield. They need a rep at the NCAA. This should be like the MLB all-star game where every team gets a rep in the game. Trophies for everyone. 3. He has a great name. 4. He has wins over qualifiers including an injury win over Cannon

  40. Gavin Kane knocked off Hunter Bolen in the 184 semis. Given their history, I figured Bolen would win that one and move on to wrestle Hidlay for the millionth time in the finals. This upset didn’t happen, but Mekhi Lewis got pushed to the brink in the finals by 16-6 Alex Faison of NC state. Lewis won in OT, but Faison was starting to hunt him down smelling blood in the water. That one would’ve been nuts.

  43. For sure. Thought he made the right calls. I just don’t like when refs become so chatty on the mat. Just do your job, make your calls, and run off when you’re done. Anything else seems performative and like you want to be a bigger part of the match than you are.

  45. Askren is going to tee off on this ref. The constant talking to the wrestlers and then making sure to tell them good luck at nationals… Man just do your job and then head off the mat. You don’t need to be a part of this instant classic match.
